We had an amazing stay at Ark! The hotel is located in one of the most picturesque villages in Santorini, Pyrgos – peaceful and charming. It was the perfect place to relax away from the crowds and also a great base for exploring the rest of the island by car with easy access to all major locations. The accommodations were spectacular: modern, stylish and very comfortable with great attention to detail. The pool area was perfect for relaxing during the day and night with a calm and private atmosphere. Breakfast was another highlight: it was served each morning at our room and we could choose the main dish from several delicious options, a touch that made the experience even better. If you're looking for a peaceful, high-quality stay in a beautiful and less touristy part of Santorini, Ark is the perfect choice. We truly enjoyed our stay and would love to return!

A Greek Island Dream

Imagine a typical Greek island with whitewashed houses, blue-domed churches and sloping cliffs, and the chances are that you’re thinking of Santorini. Protectively curving around 4 other islands in its archipelago, this volcanic island has fertile ground bringing forth lovely rosé wine and some of the sweetest cherry tomatoes you’ll ever taste.

High on a caldera shelving into the sea, the capital Fira overlooks the cruise liners plying the turquoise Aegean waters below. North is Imerovigli, home to several 5-star Santorini hotels with fantastic views.

Also providing amazing views is the accommodation in Oia across the bay. Cascading down the slopes, the sea of white here is only dispersed by vibrant pink flowers, blue domes and the brown of ancient windmills, all becoming black silhouettes as the sun sets.

Santorini Airport is on the other side of the island and 2 resorts south of it – Kamari and Perissa – have the best, black sand beaches. However, the most visually impressive is Red Beach at Akrotiri where the stunning red colour of the caldera and sand makes the trek down the rockface well worth it. Just time it right to avoid high tide! Also near Akrotiri are excavations of a Minoan era settlement.

Our stay at Kivotos Santorini was excellent! The view was incredible from our hideaway suite and the whole hotel. We had a delicious breakfast every morning that you could choose from multiple options - all very good. The service was second to none. Everything was easy - the front desk arranged private transfers for us throughout our stay and we had communication with them via whatsapp for instant service. When we arrived, we received a very warm welcome and complimentary chilled bottle of wine in our room with other items, and everyone was so friendly throughout our stay. The room was also excellent and was tidied every morning while we were at breakfast. They had an evening service if you wished with a complimentary dessert, too. We really enjoyed our time there and didn't want to leave our suite hardly with the incredible view! I would recommend Kivotos to anyone!

Oia is one of the most beautiful and unforgettable places in Santorini. The views are absolutely breathtaking, with the famous whitewashed buildings, blue domes, dramatic cliffs, and incredible sunsets creating a truly magical atmosphere. Every corner feels like a postcard, and there are countless beautiful spots to discover while walking through the narrow streets. The village offers many charming places to explore, including beautiful viewpoints, traditional houses, small shops, art galleries, cafés, and restaurants with spectacular views over the Aegean Sea. The architecture, the unique atmosphere, and the combination of sea, sky, and volcanic landscape make Oia a special destination that everyone should experience at least once. One of the highlights is simply walking around and enjoying the scenery. There are many hidden corners away from the main streets where you can appreciate the beauty and peaceful side of Santorini. The sunsets are famous for a reason, and watching the colors change over the caldera is a truly memorable experience. The main downside is that Oia can become extremely crowded, especially during the busiest hours and around sunset. The narrow streets can feel very busy, and sometimes it becomes difficult to fully enjoy the views because of the number of visitors. Overall, Oia is a must-visit destination with incredible views, unforgettable scenery, and a magical charm. The crowds are the only major disadvantage, but the beauty of the village makes the experience worthwhile.

very nice beach, nice sunbeds, can visit with modern public buses all island, also can rent a car good food at fair prices at the taverns, also on that on the beach that offered umbrellas and sunbeds for free if y have lunch there

Our stay was absolutely exceptional from start to finish.

Our stay was absolutely exceptional from start to finish. The staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome, and the beautiful setting made the experience even more memorable. A special thank you to George and Costas, who were incredibly friendly, helpful, and genuinely made our stay unforgettable with their outstanding service. Nothing was ever too much trouble, and their warm hospitality really stood out. I cannot rate this hotel highly enough and would recommend it without hesitation. We can't wait to return!

Perissa was one of our favorite places in Santorini.

Perissa was one of our favorite places in Santorini. The beautiful black-sand beach, crystal-clear water, and relaxed atmosphere made it the perfect spot to unwind. There are plenty of restaurants, cafés, and shops within walking distance, and the area feels welcoming and less crowded than some of the busier parts of the island. We especially enjoyed walking along the beach at sunset and experiencing the local hospitality.

Karterados is not crowned and is only about 18 mins walk to...

Karterados is not crowned and is only about 18 mins walk to Fira. There is a large super market in this area near the bus stop where you can grab some fresh food to cook or buy some items you need. The area is quite and looks safe.

I liked Akrotiri because it’s away from the busyness of the main cities like Fira or Oia. It’s better to have a car when choosing that area because it’s so easy to move around can easily access bakery, petrol station, supermarket and of course there is never a shortage of amazing views on the island.

The bus was a bit far from the hotel or from the village, but the beaches were great. The stay was amazing with endless restaurants to pick from. We went in May, which was the perfect season, since it was not overcrowded at all.

Beautiful, peaceful town with so many restaurants, bars and commercial storefronts. Genuinely friendly, helpful people. Bricki was a great place to eat, but there were many good restaurants and the Greeks certainly know how to prepare lamb. We didn’t know it the first two days, but there is a scenic, romantic walkway along the side of the cliff - amazing.

Location: Pyrgos is a hidden gem compared to the bustle of Fira and Oia – much quieter and more authentic, yet with equally stunning views across the island. The village itself is charming, with picturesque alleyways, excellent restaurants, and a beautiful castle crowning the hilltop. Getting around is easy too, with straightforward bus connections to the rest of Santorini. Highly recommended if you prefer a more relaxed atmosphere without missing out on anything. Favourite spots: The castle and the winding alleyways of Pyrgos itself are absolutely worth exploring. For sunset views over the caldera, Alchemia is a must – stunning location, great food, and we went back twice. Kantouni is a lovely traditional taverna, and Kavatza is a charming family-run spot serving excellent souvlaki in pita – we ended up there three times! For a relaxed drink in the village square, Johnnie CF is perfect. Getting around: The village is served by the Fira–Perissa bus line, stopping right at the village square. There's no fixed timetable so you need to be a bit flexible, but it runs regularly and at €2.20 to Fira it's great value. We never had to wait too long. Activities we'd recommend: Don't miss a wine tasting at Santo Wines – a fantastic experience with breathtaking views over the caldera.
