Centuries of History, Days of Sunshine

The largest Greek island, mountainous Crete has stunning beaches, plenty of history and as much or little nightlife as you want. Party town Malia has many bars, clubs and restaurants on its Strip.

Along the coast is the capital Heraklion, a bustling city home to many Crete hotels on the beach, and a Venetian castle guarding its port. Its archaeological museum includes finds from the island’s Minoan era, while just inland are the Roman remains of Knossos.

Also boasting a Venetian castle is Rethymnon, a popular resort with a good number of Crete hotels with private pools on Booking.com. Loggerhead turtles nest in season on the sandy beaches here and at Chania, an important port with an attractive waterfront set against the backdrop of mountains.

On the other side of the island is Aghios Nikolaos, a small fishing town with a picturesque harbour. Just north is Elounda, a popular family resort, and offshore is Spinaloga island, inspiration behind the book ‘The Island’. Matala in the south has a bohemian vibe and intriguing cliff dwellings, while Paleokastro in the east borders Europe’s largest palm forest at Vai.

We could go on and on about magnificent Crete beaches, but whichever resort you choose, you can be almost guaranteed fantastic food and a good helping of sunshine.

The hotel offers excellent value for money, especially for families with kids. The waterpark has a lot of slides, and there is a new aquapark project for 2025. Food is tasty and various, drinks are also OK. It is important to say that the hotel is not fancy, but it provides all that you need - and that is very good. You can also walk by the seaside road to the neighboring village, which gives you nice views. Special thanks to the manager that welcomed us at the check-in on 29 October 2024.

One of the best hotels we have ever stayed at, truly superb. The reception / arrival is phenomenal, can’t think of a hotel reception view I like more. The facilities are great. The team are all lovely. Location to Chania old town is good, given it’s also a full service resort. Cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. You will not be disappointed. Special comments to Naya from Guest Relations who helped make our stay even more memorable.

The old town is beautiful, you can see a wonderful sunset from the port. if you look around you can find many places to eat and taste great things. but to be fair the original tastes are out of the centre and closer to the villages of chania

The place is way too touristy and hard to find decent Greek food here. The restaurants offer quite basic menus with unreasonably high prices. For beaches, you may need to travel further away. City has an extensive shopping street and nightlife though.

This is wonderful destination and a great base for exploring Crete. There i so much to see and do. We loved visiting Archeological and Natural Museum, Palace of knossos, both of which are easy to reach by public bus. Heraklion offers a perfect mix of history, culture, beaches and delicious food. Very tourist-friendly.

Agios Nikolaos was a very good experience for me and my partner. Plenty of restaurants and bars with friendly, local staff. The place was the right mix of busy without being over crowded. Great place to stay if you plan on visiting surrounding beaches. Then after sunbathing and swimming you can get to the hotel, refresh yourself and head to the town which was less than 5min away from the hotel where you can get delicious food in several restaurants and taverns. And if you still have energy after the whole day you can go to one of the bars for some drinks and music.

Overcrowded beach, and because of that it was quite dirty.

Overcrowded beach, and because of that it was quite dirty. Most of the restaurants along the front were a bit similar and quite expensive. Sophia’s corner up the road away from the beach had the best food and a fantastic hostess

It’s a lovely little town with super gift shops and.

It’s a lovely little town with super gift shops and. A whole host of nice bars and restaurants to chose from . All the shop keepers are so friendly . Lots of great Greek cafes and bars and the food is well priced and delicious .
