Centuries of History, Days of Sunshine

The largest Greek island, mountainous Crete has stunning beaches, plenty of history and as much or little nightlife as you want. Party town Malia has many bars, clubs and restaurants on its Strip.

Along the coast is the capital Heraklion, a bustling city home to many Crete hotels on the beach, and a Venetian castle guarding its port. Its archaeological museum includes finds from the island’s Minoan era, while just inland are the Roman remains of Knossos.

Also boasting a Venetian castle is Rethymnon, a popular resort with a good number of Crete hotels with private pools on Booking.com. Loggerhead turtles nest in season on the sandy beaches here and at Chania, an important port with an attractive waterfront set against the backdrop of mountains.

On the other side of the island is Aghios Nikolaos, a small fishing town with a picturesque harbour. Just north is Elounda, a popular family resort, and offshore is Spinaloga island, inspiration behind the book ‘The Island’. Matala in the south has a bohemian vibe and intriguing cliff dwellings, while Paleokastro in the east borders Europe’s largest palm forest at Vai.

We could go on and on about magnificent Crete beaches, but whichever resort you choose, you can be almost guaranteed fantastic food and a good helping of sunshine.

The hotel offers excellent value for money, especially for families with kids. The waterpark has a lot of slides, and there is a new aquapark project for 2025. Food is tasty and various, drinks are also OK. It is important to say that the hotel is not fancy, but it provides all that you need - and that is very good. You can also walk by the seaside road to the neighboring village, which gives you nice views. Special thanks to the manager that welcomed us at the check-in on 29 October 2024.

One of the best hotels we have ever stayed at, truly superb. The reception / arrival is phenomenal, can’t think of a hotel reception view I like more. The facilities are great. The team are all lovely. Location to Chania old town is good, given it’s also a full service resort. Cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. You will not be disappointed. Special comments to Naya from Guest Relations who helped make our stay even more memorable.

Chania is a lovely town with ample restaurants, bars and shops and activities. It’s a fun place and a good base to travel to other parts of Crete. We loved the food and the friendly staff in every restaurant we went to. The harbour was busy in the evenings but great fun and lots of atmosphere… We mainly ate in the harbour area as there are lots of restaurants to choose from.

We didn't stay in Hersonissos, we stayed in Koutouloufari (a small village 20 minutes walk from the centre of Hersonissos), and I am so glad we did, as Hersonissos is much more of a party base where there are plenty of bars and clubs, and is aimed more at the twenty somethings rather than the family friendly, quieter and much more civilised traditional Greek village of Koutouloufari, if you want parties and late night drinking, then Hersonissos might just be for you, however if you are looking for a quieter, easy going, traditional Greek village with lots of traditional family run restaurants / tavernas, then look further afield to the small villages on the outskirts like Koutouloufari and Piskopiano.

This is wonderful destination and a great base for exploring Crete. There i so much to see and do. We loved visiting Archeological and Natural Museum, Palace of knossos, both of which are easy to reach by public bus. Heraklion offers a perfect mix of history, culture, beaches and delicious food. Very tourist-friendly.

Great place to stay if you plan on visiting surrounding beaches. Then after sunbathing and swimming you can get to the hotel, refresh yourself and head to the town which was less than 5min away from the hotel where you can get delicious food in several restaurants and taverns. Lovely beaches, nice restaurants on the front, just chilled, people in shops and about very friendly, excellent if you are English speaking, Location is perfect for getting about on buses getting into Chania old town etc, a week is not quite enough we would have liked longer as it was a nice rest you have no worries for all you need there.

Overcrowded beach, and because of that it was quite dirty. Most of the restaurants along the front were a bit similar and quite expensive. Sophia’s corner up the road away from the beach had the best food and a fantastic hostess

It’s a lovely little town with super gift shops and.

It’s a lovely little town with super gift shops and. A whole host of nice bars and restaurants to chose from . All the shop keepers are so friendly . Lots of great Greek cafes and bars and the food is well priced and delicious .
