Where do I start - we truly enjoyed our holidays at Enorme Santanna Beach Hotel. The facilities and rooms have very nice, clean design. From the hotel there is a nice view to the city and mountains. Hotel is located next to the beach which is fully equipped beach with comfortable sunbeds and beach bar. The beach is rocky - black rock and sand beach, but I really liked the character of the beach. Although the sea bottom itself is rocky, still it is possible to comfortably enter it and swim. Food was excellent - fresh and delicious, I especially enjoyed breakfast and dinner, it’s wide variety of different cusines and desserts were outstanding. The staff is friendly, kind and always ready to help you, so for the hotel staff itself I give 10/10. You are great and doing a great job there! As this was the first part of our trip and we did not want to do anything much just sunbathe on the beach and relax, we found this a perfect choice.

Centuries of History, Days of Sunshine

The largest Greek island, mountainous Crete has stunning beaches, plenty of history and as much or little nightlife as you want. Party town Malia has many bars, clubs and restaurants on its Strip.

Along the coast is the capital Heraklion, a bustling city home to many Crete hotels on the beach, and a Venetian castle guarding its port. Its archaeological museum includes finds from the island’s Minoan era, while just inland are the Roman remains of Knossos.

Also boasting a Venetian castle is Rethymnon, a popular resort with a good number of Crete hotels with private pools on Booking.com. Loggerhead turtles nest in season on the sandy beaches here and at Chania, an important port with an attractive waterfront set against the backdrop of mountains.

On the other side of the island is Aghios Nikolaos, a small fishing town with a picturesque harbour. Just north is Elounda, a popular family resort, and offshore is Spinaloga island, inspiration behind the book ‘The Island’. Matala in the south has a bohemian vibe and intriguing cliff dwellings, while Paleokastro in the east borders Europe’s largest palm forest at Vai.

We could go on and on about magnificent Crete beaches, but whichever resort you choose, you can be almost guaranteed fantastic food and a good helping of sunshine.

The hotel offers excellent value for money, especially for families with kids. The waterpark has a lot of slides, and there is a new aquapark project for 2025. Food is tasty and various, drinks are also OK. It is important to say that the hotel is not fancy, but it provides all that you need - and that is very good. You can also walk by the seaside road to the neighboring village, which gives you nice views. Special thanks to the manager that welcomed us at the check-in on 29 October 2024.

One of the best hotels we have ever stayed at, truly superb. The reception / arrival is phenomenal, can’t think of a hotel reception view I like more. The facilities are great. The team are all lovely. Location to Chania old town is good, given it’s also a full service resort. Cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. You will not be disappointed. Special comments to Naya from Guest Relations who helped make our stay even more memorable.

This was our second visit to Chania and definitely wont be...

This was our second visit to Chania and definitely wont be our last. I love everything about it, the beautiful old streets with gorgeous craft shops but especially loved the late opening of restaurants in the old town. In Ireland most restaurants take last bookings at 9.30pm so it was wonderful to spend a long day at the beach, go home, shower and change and then head out again for a wander around the old streets, and finish up with dinner at 11pm :) Most of the restaurants we visited during our 6 night stay were lovely, but avoid Pallas, the food was only okay and service wasn't great for the price paid. On our last night we visited Palazzo Al Mare and had the best meal of our stay, the food was delicious and the staff were so friendly. We wished we had discovered this earlier in the week, would have visited twice if we had.

It is too touristic.

It is too touristic. There is no feeling of authentic greece. And it was not so nice to party there as expected. The clubs were not that nice. We initally planned to enjoy the nightlife of that region but ended up mainly swimming and enjoing each others company. The old town is very nice though! Next time when I go to greece I will seach for another more authentic and less touristic place.

Small city, easy to walk around, lots of great buildings, very friendly people and easy to find whatever you need. Great food places, Archaeological Museum is a must if visiting Knossos. For shoppers, it's paradise especially at the market and Hondo Centre (skin care galore, bags/cases, swim wear) near St Titus - also recommend the Platanos cafe in the square under the trees next to St Titus. Eleftherias Square is great for sitting in the shade, in fact there's lots of benches around the main shopping areas which is great if you are sitting to eat your bakery treat, takeaway gyros, ice cream, reorganise your bags or check the map. Visitor information is open in the mornings and can give you a paper map plus excellent advice; if you are here in summer months, ask about the festival booklet which is in Greek and English with all the events (movies, concerts, plays, kids' events) around the city. We only came in for one night. It was much too short. Very nice urban streets. We had excellent dinner and then we went to breakfast at a Parisian cafe called Jet’aime and it was the best breakfast we had in years! Exceptional.

Malia is a buzzing and lively town with a fantastic party...

Malia is a buzzing and lively town with a fantastic party atmosphere. There are lots of bars and clubs to choose from, and drinks are cheap. We visited Malia twice in the evening to enjoy the nightlife and had a great time. For us, however, Malia itself would have been too busy to stay in. We stayed about a 25-minute walk outside the centre, which we much preferred as it was quieter and more peaceful, while still being close enough to walk into Malia whenever we wanted. Malia is particularly suitable for younger people, especially those in their 20s and 30s who are looking for a lively holiday and plenty of nightlife. There is also a lovely old town with beautiful traditional buildings, which gives you a nice contrast to the busy party area. It was easy to arrange a boat trip from Malia, including trips for swimming and exploring the coastline, and hiring a car was also straightforward. Quad bikes are very popular, and you'll see plenty of people riding them around town. Overall, we would recommend staying just outside Malia if you prefer a quieter holiday, with the option to walk into town when you want to enjoy the nightlife.

Agios Nikolaos was a very good experience for me and my...

Agios Nikolaos was a very good experience for me and my partner. Plenty of restaurants and bars with friendly, local staff. The place was the right mix of busy without being over crowded. Most restaurants added extras such as small starters and desserts of local produce free of charge which was a nice touch.

Great place to stay if you plan on visiting surrounding...

Great place to stay if you plan on visiting surrounding beaches. Then after sunbathing and swimming you can get to the hotel, refresh yourself and head to the town which was less than 5min away from the hotel where you can get delicious food in several restaurants and taverns. And if you still have energy after the whole day you can go to one of the bars for some drinks and music.

The location of the apartment is just right for everything.

The location of the apartment is just right for everything. The air condition in the rooms were very okay, The car parking space is highly needed because it is good to park the car somwhere safe. The housekeepers are doing a very good job by keeping the apartments clean everyday. The compound is very quiet and the simming pool is very clean. We enjoyed our stay in the apartment as a family of 4.

Overcrowded beach, and because of that it was quite dirty. Most of the restaurants along the front were a bit similar and quite expensive. Sophia’s corner up the road away from the beach had the best food and a fantastic hostess

It’s a lovely little town with super gift shops and. A whole host of nice bars and restaurants to chose from . All the shop keepers are so friendly . Lots of great Greek cafes and bars and the food is well priced and delicious .
