Chania is a busy little town that has everything, it's like a smaller version of Heraklion but with an amazing venetian harbour.. The restaurants are limitless and many small bars also, the town rarely sleeps so always something to do. The small beautiful streets near the harbour would take you a couple of weeks to explore if you stopped and had dinner at each of the little cafes and restaurants..
Chania has an old town with pre- and post Venetian archeological sites, remnants of city-, fortress-, harbor walls, near mosques, churches, museums, reflecting a busy and diverse history that started in pre-Minoan times. You will find different layers of town strolling through small lanes, picturesque backallys, in courtyards, archways, showing you an interesting, historic and charming town that is situated right at the Mediterranean sea, with its crystal clear, green, blue water. There are also modern shopping areas, many restaurants (including good vegetarian restaurants) and ubkiquitous coffee corners/places, and ice cream shops. It is easy to get around, by foot or wheelchair (there is a lot, though quite manageable, cobble-stone pavement), bikes can be rented inexpensively from the municipality, car traffic in the newer section is mostly reasonable. Boats can be rented, and boat excursions are available, including snorkeling excursion.
When you think that the origins of Europe surround this ancient city, you really see the architecture and vibe in a very different way. Very building, the Venetian Harbour, the Monasteries, Mosques tell a story of their own. Chania can become your hub for visiting the West Side of Crete. You can easily stay there for 3-4 days.
Chania is a fabulous town with everything you could wish for: history, culture, restaurants, cafes, bars, beaches, old harbour, great people. Everything is within walking distance and I love exploring all the narrow streets and museums.
We have been to Chania before in October and fell in love with it. We were so excited to take our daughters and show them and especially being Christmas. However, it was very disappointing, nothing like the Christmas photos of Chania show and hardly any restaurants open. Not the buzzing Christmassy feel we were all expecting. We will not be returning at Christmas, alot of money for a disappointing time.
The hotel was in old town on a narrow cosy street. Good location. Rooms were clean and beautifully decorated with an amazing four-poster bed. We bought breakfast at cost of 6 euros/person and it was good. Surroundings of the hotel were lively, lots of restaurants nearby. There is a nice roof top terrace where we spent some time in the evenings. We will definitely come back to this hotel. The atmosphere and all personnel was also very nice.
This is an incredible hotel and our experience was perfect in every way. The staff was extremely helpful, kind and the breakfast was the best we had in Greece. They also own the restaurant downstairs and it was the best dinners on the Venetian harbor. We love our friend Nikos in the restaurant!
Romantic historic hotel right in the center of the old town. Very friendly staff brought us breakfast to our room. Our room was a good retreat from the wind and rain that hit Chania while we were there. Plenty of restaurants in walking distance. Free public parking was 500 meters away.
Very charming hotel with great location in Old Town. Maria (college student) was very helpful and eager to answer our questions. Breakfast was very good. We had a rental car and it was easy to find street parking since Old Town doesn’t allow cars.
Perfect location in the center of old town. Room was spacious and bathroom brand new. The best was the hotel owner who helped us everyday and night with recommendations for restaurants and sights to see. Amazing stay we will be going back again.
Perhaps the best hotel in the center of Chania? Very close to Bus station, short walk to Old town, generous breakfast, friendly staff, good beds/room/bathroom. A nice pool area. All in all a very good experience.
Situated in the old town, 2 minutes walking from all the restourants and shops. It is near to the parking. Is the perfect place to visit Chania and Crete!! Stavros was always very kind and helpful. I recommend it!
We liked everything! Our room was clean, large, great kitchenette, and very quiet at night. Walking distance from everything in old town. Highly recommended! And the manager responded very quickly to our emails.
This hotel is located in a cozy alley in old town. The room was exceptionally clean, and the beds so comfortable. Also a quiet location. We slept four adults in the Athena room (only two chairs).
Brand new hotel in a great location in the old town of Chania. The owners were so kind when our ferry to Crete was delayed and we didn’t arrive to check in until after a midnight.
Most luxury and beautiful room we had on crete! (we had 8 different accommodations) Very friendly staff Free parking place in the garage. 15 minutes walk to old town of chania
Staff was very friendly. Hotel was spotless. Breakfast was plentiful. Location is the best. Literally steps away from the bus station, taxis and the old town.
Location right on the harbor in old town. Extremely responsive staff. Fabulous, unique room in an old stone building.
Staff very pleasant and helpful. Outstanding room with large living area and harbor views. Great breakfast buffet and service. Modern update. Onsite parking.
Fantastic place, very clean, and staff very welcoming.
The best was without any doubt the personal. Always helpful and nice. The views to the port, the room and the breakfast were great. Amazing choice ;)
The location, staff and view were all good. Room was comfortable.
Brilliant room with beautiful view of the city and sea. Great facilities and staff were very helpful and friendly. Restaurant had stunning views and delicious food
The view could not be overstated: beautiful sunset over crystal blue water. Evenings were calm with rolling waves luring us to sleep. The photos of the villa speak for themselves. The host, Anastasia, was courteous, responsive, and incredibly sweet; inquiries were attended to within minutes. Could not have asked for a better accommodation. Thank you for the perfect get away!!
On arrival Giorgos was waiting for us after midnight to hand over the keys, on our last day we could check out late afternoon too, was an extra. The house feels like home, far from noisy streets but close enough to reach out for a restaurant. Chania old town and the port has a very good vibe. Great place to visit.
