Favourite beach was Amoodi beach in walking distance.
Favourite beach was Amoodi beach in walking distance. Excllent archaeological museum in Ag Nikalaos. We had a car so visited ancient sites such as Knossos. Visited Eloundi & Plaka. Went to Spinalonga. Did a day trip from the north to the south via Sitia & a lovely old Monastery , coming back through the mountains. Went to little villages such as Krista & Kroustos where we enjoyed traditional Greek food. Enjoyed lovely food in Ag, Nik at very good restaurants recommended by our host Maria.

nice lively city but not to crowded at the end of June. Very nice market on Wednesdays, many shops, restaurants and cafés. Several beaches reachable on foot, and others a bit further by car. Good location as well to explore Katharo and Lassithi plateaus.

We love Agios Nikolas, we have here many times. Unfortunately it was once again incredibly windy and that spoiled a lot of our plans. Luckily Ammos Beach was nice and calm— you would not have known it was gale force once you left the area. We were told we were just unlucky with the wind, but it has been the same the last three visits. People of Creta are famous by their hoispitality. This is also my experience. I've found quite a lot nervous and impatient local people in Agios Nikolaos (who seemed to be annoyed by tourists), much more than in any other place on Crete by now (it is my 5th visit of Crete). Not all are like this, of course. Agios Nikolaos in a very nice city otherwise. But, for me it was not a pure pleasure, and I've realized I'm very happy actually when back in our appartment a few kilometers out of Agios Nikolaos (didn't happen to me even in Heraklion or Chania!). Lovely litte city.
Lovely litte city. Visited in May; understandably the high season will be crowded and overly hot weather. Usually excellent food, but also worth to try restaurants off the most busy city centre. By car also worth to explore pebble beaches outside the town which are not crowded at all.
