ABSOLUTELY FELL IN LOVE WITH THIS PLACE, THE SERVICE AND THE STAFF. Super classy, clean and very friendly and accommodating staff. The room service was great, spa facilities were wonderful and the restaurant and buffet were great too. Would 1000% book again if in Jojya.

A quiet hideaway in the bustling Pakualaman district in central Yogyakarta, Puri Pangeran Hotel is just 5 minutes’ walk from KM 0. It provides free WiFi accessible throughout the hotel.

The staff and owners are so friendly. The inclusive breakfast was great with the pool Plenty of quality food. It is a quiet area but be prepared for the Mosque next door's call to prayer very early in the morning. The location is a little "out of the way" for tourist facilities which may not suit some travellers but we liked that aspect.

A City Fit to Prosper

Yogyakarta represents the Javanese quintessence, the guardian of the island’s traditions, language, culture and arts. Capital of kingdoms and empires since the 8th century, ‘Yogya’ is today the capital of the namesake Sultanate and Special Region of Indonesia.

With ancient origins, the city was during centuries the capital of the Mataram Kingdom, but its power was weakened when the Dutch East India Company started to gain control over the small Javanese kingdoms during the 17th century. After World War II, the Indonesian independence was supported by the Sultan, allowing the monarchy to stay in power. The city became the country’s first capital from 1945 to 1949.

Its name was inspired by the Indian Ramayana epic, with ‘Yogya’ meaning 'suitable, fit’ and ‘karta’ meaning 'prosperous'. Must-see sites include the Kraton Yogyakarta Palace, the Taman Sari Castle, the Alun-Alun Sultan's ground, and the Masjid Gede Kauman Mosque. Jalan Malioboro street is one of the most popular shopping areas, and many hotels in Yogyakarta are located nearby.

Its proximity to the famous temples of Borobudur and Prambanan makes this town one of the country’s most popular destinations. Hotels, resorts and homestay accommodation are also available near those areas.

    It's an absolute must for people visiting Indonesia. The temples, Borobudur and Prambanan, are world class attractions. The new airport is top notch. The Sultan's Palace is interesting. The rest of Yogyakarta does not stand out.

    I found Yogyakarta very beautiful with rice paddies, lush vegetation and space to breathe. There is less traffic than in Ubud and I found the people very kind. It is very Islamic so this is something to keep in mind when traveling to Yogya. The pace is slower and invites one to pause and relax in a different way. The beaches are spectacular and the local food and fruits are delicious.

    It's a unique city, very friendly. We met some awesome people who were eager to share their craft with us. A barista who roasts coffee and showed us how he did it, and wanted to give us more coffee to try but it was late so we had to decline. We went back the next day though, Callme cafe and roastery, check them out! We met a bartender who was a master mixologist, and gave us many incredibly delicious drinks to try, we didn't even ask! He just wanted us to try his creations! They were beyond phenomenal! Barley and Barrel, I can't remember his name though, I have difficulty with names. Ask for the fruit salad cocktail if he's still there though, it's like a Wonka creation! I hope he gets a position where he can shine, he's a unique talent. Malioboro is good for shopping and souvenirs, and very busy at night. For Indonesia, the weather was surprisingly mild. Borobudur is, of course, majestic, and the work they've put into the property was excellent. Our stay at Borobudurhills hotel was excellent and the view of Borobudur in the distance was breathtaking. The area around it, especially in the hills up north, is filled with cool people and interesting sights. I would love to have spent another week or two there. And it's also very cheap, relatively speaking, especially compared to Bali. It's definitely a cool place to see and there is some very good food if you look for it.

    Yogya is an exciting city. There is always something new to try, different to taste and intriguing to see. Yogya has such a great coffee culture. It is alive with people, students and musicians. So many great singers are from Yogya.

    In Yogyakarta, walk through the Malioboro street, enjoy the life at the Palasts places, head for both Borobudur and Pramabanan Tempels. If you go to Prambanan, use the City Bus 1a (from Malioboro Street), it is just 3600 IDR and you need 45 minutes. Service until 19:30. If you go to Borobudur, the way ist about 1.5h, you can catch a Damri Bus near Vredeburg in City Center.

    Yogyakarta provides an interesting place for first time visitor to Java with The world class sites of Borobodur and Pranbanan close by. Local food is readily available and well priced. Tourist are welcome, but tourism does not dominate The local culture. transport via Grab and Gojek is convenient and cheap and the airport train is easy. The DAMRI Shuttle is also comfortable and cheap option to reach Borobodur.

    In the heart of a busy city. You will have everything you need to see , know or taste of Yogjakarta. The hustles and bustles of the streets suggested the life of the place. And being in this hotel you will definite experience all. I love the staff there. Very2 helpful. I remember that i need to book an airport transfer, however it was already fully booked. He insisted on helping me out by calling out for grabcar services. Lovely! 24hrs kitchen and service. Wow.
