We highly recommend Essence in Barletta, Italy. It’s located about a 5 minute walk from the central train station and 10-12 minutes from the Duomo and Colossus. Our airy room was sparkling clean, from crisp bed linens to the cool tile floor. The rain/hand shower is the best we have encountered in several weeks in Europe so far this year. The room had juice, a basket offering a choice of many breakfast items. There was a coffee maker, little cappuccino machine, and a teapot as well. Our main objective in staying in Barletta was to visit the nearby Cannae Battlefield (where Hannibal famously defeated the Romans) and museum. Here, Anna Maria, who runs Essence, proved extremely resourceful. We arrived in Barletta on a holiday; there was not a taxi in sight at the train station. But Anna Maria had arranged a driver for us! Carlo picked us up at the train station, took us by Essence to leave our luggage, drove us past vineyards and olive groves to Cannae and returned for us two hours later. If not for Anna Maria’s arranging the outing for us, we would have missed our long-anticipated visit to Cannae. When Carlo dropped us off at Essence, Anna Maria was there to be sure all was well. And she came the next morning with fresh croissants! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The one caveat would be that our room was up several flights of stairs and there is no elevator, so travelers who are elderly or who have heavy luggage should be aware. (We are both elderly and have heavy bags, and we managed just fine!)

Fabululous decor, and Antonella a great host, full of tips and ideas to visit Barletta!
Barletta is an impressive Italian city. When you enter the city, you will first spot an amazing basilica with a big tower. Then, you enter the old town with a lot of pizzerias and focaccerias. The local food is really amazing.

Barletta and all surrounding small cities are very interesting from a historical and architectural point of view. Barletta is a very fine base for short trips to Gargano (Vieste, Peschici, Foresta Umbra, Monte Sant'Angelo etc.), to Andria, to Castel del Monte, to Cannae della Bataglia, Trani, Giovinazzo etc. Barletta itself has a fine castello with a passable museum inside and a fine arts exposition of De Nittis. Bari Airport is a short drive away, also the large commercial complex at Molfetta. In sum, Barletta is a very fine choice for a base to reside and explore Puglia in 1-day trips. I would assume Barletta gets crowded in high summer season.

I was surprised at how beautiful Barletta was.
I was surprised at how beautiful Barletta was. We only stopped for the night on our way up north and was amazed with what we saw. It has beautiful sandy beaches, outdoor cafes, restaurants and parks. The people were friendly, and the night life was alive with people everywhere. What blew us away the most was the old part of the town. The picturesque little narrow streets and architecture of the buildings. A must see if you have time. I needed to stay a few days at least.

Beautiful historic centre. You can walk everywhere.
Beautiful historic centre. You can walk everywhere. Small and compact. Excellent food especially the fish and seafood. Very lively in the evening. Seems like the whole town goes out for a walk and to socialise. The nearby beaches are very inviting in warm weather.

We loved this beach town.
We loved this beach town. There are extensive shopping and dining options in the (historic) city center. It appeared to be a hidden gem for many foreign tourists, as English is little spoken.
Beautiful town with authentic buildings, monuments and all within walking distance. Bari Airport is a 35-minute drive.
Shops are usually open in the morning and from 17.00 until 20.45 hrs in Barletta, meaning many cars in the narrow streets as people go for dinner and shopping. Caution is required.
Excellent location within the old city with many great restaurants nearby and a short walk the beach. Excellent hosts that were extremely helpful, showed where to park, carried our bags on arrival, provided extra towels, etc. We arrived earlier than expected and once contacted they met us within a few minutes. They also provided vouchers for breakfast in a nearby café on the same street. The apartment is in an old historic building and a great place to base yourself within Barletta.
The flat is new and has everything working well. Very difficult to find a place like this in Barletta. Excellent mattress and pillows, we slept very well. Good windows to keep the noise of the street out. Very clean. The host is super nice and always there to help. Definitely 5 star accommodation and we would stay there again and again.
Place was great, in the literal centre of Barletta. Breakfast is served in nearby cafés of your choice. Rooms are nice and clean, beds are comfy. Staff are overly helpful and kind.
Conveniently located and easy to find, it really made our stay In Barletta stress-free. The room had everything we needed, even the breakfast cookies included and coffee.
