We loved being in Formia as it’s off the beaten path a...
We loved being in Formia as it’s off the beaten path a little. Some of our group were visiting Italy for the first time, so we used it as a base to visit Rome, Pompeii, Naples and more. Trains were absolutely brilliant- regular, cheap and fast. We would love to come back to spend more time on the coastline around Formia itself- what we saw of the surroundings was so pretty, the town was bustling, and the beaches looked stunning.

Formia is a great place to visit, it has it all, beaches,...
Formia is a great place to visit, it has it all, beaches, restaurants, bars and lots and lots of history. Cisternone Romano Is a must see and only takes about 30 minutes, there are many Roman ruins and artefacts to see. The local wine shops are great and you can get fresh wine by the litre for less than €2!
Olives and buffalo mozzarella are the best in the area and on sale everywhere (Itri and Gaeta make the best) the beaches are great and most have a lido bar and facilities costing around €15 to €25 for umbrella and 2 loungers for the day.

Great place to get the ferry to Ventotene and islands or if you want to go the beaches between there and Gaeta. Also a good stop off en route to anywhere along the coast between Rome and Naples as you also have the train station. Something about the back streets and where we went for a really authentic tasty meal( very popular with locals) had the spirit of Naples.

A nice, clean apartment with a fresh renovation in the historic center of Formia, not far from the sea. The owner, Fabio, is a very pleasant person who provides clear instructions for self check-in and recommends great local restaurants, beaches, and more. Highly recommended.

A beautiful hotel with good service and lovely staff. The swimming pool is delightful and there is private beach access. I really enjoyed my stay. My room (away from the main house had a view of the sea (no balcony) and was spacious and modern (and possibly a little plain).
