Palazzo Salgar, hotel in Naples

Featuring a free fitness centre and solarium, Palazzo Salgar is set in Naples, a 5-minute walk from Piazza Mercato Square. All air-conditioned rooms offer views of the city.

The breakfast was very nice and plenty to choose from. However, we ate in the restaurant at night and was very disappointed with the food. It was like canteen style food, that had clearly been heated up in the microwave, I chose strawberry ice cream for desert, and it had clearly been in the freezer for a while as it had chunks of ice through it, I didn’t eat it, my partner had chocolate cake which again had been heated in the microwave, far too hot, and when cooled it stuck to the plate !

Located on the lively promenade of Naples, Relais sul Mare offers design en suite rooms overlooking the Gulf of Naples.

* Superb location - the view and the distance to great dining was even better than we expected. We were two ladies travelling together and felt very safe staying here as well as walking around the area at all times of the day/night. It was also a very reasonable distance to the Port where we caught a ferry to Capri for a day trip. * The entire hotel, including our room and bathroom, were extremely tastefully decorated * Everything looked and felt very clean, we felt comfortable and right at home

FAQs about hotels in Naples

Vibrancy, Vespas, Vesuvius

Undulating beside the Bay of Naples, this UNESCO World Heritage city is a maze of narrow streets and funicular railways. Although it has an incredible array of churches and monuments, it’s the sheer energy, pulsating life, and buzz of Vespas that really make it exciting.

At first you could mistake this for chaos, but given time you’ll see there’s method to the madness. The stunning, curved portico of the Royal Palace. The perfectly thin pizzas which originated here. The red pepper trinkets to ward off the evil eye adorning practically every old town doorway. All are crafted to perfection.

While all this goes on at street level, below is Underground Naples – a series of visitable tunnels and even a Graeco-Roman theatre which you stop at before emerging into someone’s house!

Head up to the Posillipo area for stunning views of the city and Vesuvius in the distance. The volcano itself can be visited and looking down from it towards Pompeii and Herculaneum gives context to the thousands of artefacts now on display in the city’s National Archaeological Museum.

As for accommodation, Booking.com has a wealth of hotels near Naples Airport, old town B&Bs, city centre apartments and more to help you make the most of your stay.

Naples itself is not worth visiting.

Naples itself is not worth visiting. Moreover, it is a great base from where you can do a one-day trips (I recommend Capri, Positano, Mount Vesuvius, Pompeii). Naples is good for one or two days to explore but don´t expect too much from it. It is kind of dirty and you could feel bit in danger. Buses are quite unreliable. You should deffinitely visit Palazzo Reale di Napoli and its gardens, Fontana del Gigante, Galleria Umberto I, Castel Sant'Elmo, Orto Botanico di Napoli (for free), Parco Virgiliano (beautiful sunset from there), Belvedere Antonio Iannello (best view for mount Vesuvius)

Naples is a huge city which is noisy, busy and chaotic but I loved it. We stayed in the old town area where we wandered the narrow streets. They are full of little shops selling all manner of souvenirs and trinkets. I would have loved more time to see other parts of this city. We felt safe during the day and evening but didn’t really venture out at night. The food is delicious with restaurants every few metres. We visited the Veiled Christ and did the underground tour; both well worth doing. We walked from the train station to our accommodation and my initial impressions were that it was quite dirty but once in the old town it was much better, getting around on foot was easy in the parts we saw. My only criticism was the price of a taxi to get to the airport: our flight was very early so it was necessary to book a taxi; €67 for a 5km journey. I will definitely return but maybe opt for a more sociable flight home!

An energetic, noisy, working city, bit rough around the edges but tons of character. Didn't feel dodgy once. Only guy who tried to rip off was selling fridge magnets! Pre booked ferries and transport. Everything on time. Thought Naples underrated, would go back in a heart beat due to proximity to Capri/Sorrento etc

Naples is an amazing place that includes extremes at every corner—fine dining with rat infested garbage bins overflowing in front, fabulous antiquities amid seemingly modern buildings that don't have proper infrastructure (plumbing, cooling, etc.) The traffic is horrendous to the point of laughable. No taxi driver uses a meter, and yet they get you where you need to go. Read Elena Ferrante’s quartet of books (My Brilliant Friend series) BEFORE you go. And spend at least two days - more like three - on the Island of Ischia. We did, although we paid for both an apartment in Naples and a hotel in Ischia.

Having stayed here on our first night in Italy, we were delighted to be able to return two weeks later for our last night! Having spent a day exploring Naples, we grabbed food from a local restaurant and were able to relax. The next morning it was a few minute drive to the car hire to return our car then hop on the shuttle bus to the airport. The apartment was perfectly placed for our needs and helped make the journey home pleasant.
