Vibrancy, Vespas, Vesuvius

Undulating beside the Bay of Naples, this UNESCO World Heritage city is a maze of narrow streets and funicular railways. Although it has an incredible array of churches and monuments, it’s the sheer energy, pulsating life, and buzz of Vespas that really make it exciting.

At first you could mistake this for chaos, but given time you’ll see there’s method to the madness. The stunning, curved portico of the Royal Palace. The perfectly thin pizzas which originated here. The red pepper trinkets to ward off the evil eye adorning practically every old town doorway. All are crafted to perfection.

While all this goes on at street level, below is Underground Naples – a series of visitable tunnels and even a Graeco-Roman theatre which you stop at before emerging into someone’s house!

Head up to the Posillipo area for stunning views of the city and Vesuvius in the distance. The volcano itself can be visited and looking down from it towards Pompeii and Herculaneum gives context to the thousands of artefacts now on display in the city’s National Archaeological Museum.

Very sad and gritty getting off the bus and waking to our hotel. Many many drug addicted and/or homeless which is so sad to see. Otherwise a vibrant “happening”city with MANY great places to eat and shop and take photos!

Naples is busy and vibrant, wandering around and getting lost is half the fun. You won't go hungry and you'll constantly be surprised at what you find around every corner. Embrace the chaos and when you need a break, pop over to Ischia for a couple of nights for some tranquillity and a complete contrast.

Access for Pompeii and Herculaneum, and the port ferries to Sorrento, Amalfy, Positano, Ischia and Capri. All transport within Naples is difficult to access, and walking is difficult on badly maintained pavements. Naples is an exhausting city.

Didn't spend much time in Naples.

Didn't spend much time in Naples. It was more like a way to get to Sorrento, Amalfi, Ravelo and Capri. I liked the Toledo area but did not enjoy much of the restaurants. It was probably fatigue of almost the same food for 2 weeks.

Great city for a short 7 dages vacation. It's very noisy but the people are so nice and friendly. Not many speak English so be patient. You really need to love bread, pizza and pasta to stay here haha. But it was a wonderful trip :-)

Naples was a fascinating place where people live, work, and holiday all in one vibrant city. The buildings looked historic, and the streets were full of life, with people going about their daily routines. It was easy to walk around and reach many of the historical sites. The main food served in the restaurants is the famous pizza, which was delicious. The people were friendly and welcoming. The train we took from Naples to Sorrento was very basic and definitely needs upgrading, as the system does not feel up to date. We would love to go back and spend more time discovering more of the area, as we really enjoyed our stay.
