FAQs about hotels in Campania

Stunning Scenery and Remarkable Ruins

Wonderful beach resorts, a wealth of history and winding, cliff-hugging roads – these are just a few reasons why Campania is so admired.

Spreading around a bay, the capital Naples is a mix of monumental architecture and narrow streets. Known for pizza and pulsating life night and day, it extends along the coast towards Pozzuoli, site of a Roman amphitheatre and the Phlegrean Fields volcanic area.

The most notorious volcano is of course Vesuvius, whose eruption in 79AD destroyed Pompei and Herculaneum. The ruins of both are an amazing insight into the sophistication of the Romans. Even older are the well-preserved Greek temples at Paestum.

Agropoli sits on a rocky promontory overlooking a beach and harbour, and beautiful Palinuro is at the tip of the Cilento National Park. Other fantastic Campania resorts are on the amazing Amalfi Coast. Ravello, high on a hill, offers stunning coastal views, while Amalfi and Positano cascade down to the sea. Around the peninsula is Sorrento, home to several 5-star Campania hotels, while offshore are the fabulous islands of Capri and Ischia.

Inland Caserta has an impressive Royal Palace with huge gardens, and Avellino nestles in a valley between the port of Salerno and Benevento, site of yet more Roman remains. See Booking.com for an excellent range of apartments, B&Bs and hotels in Campania.

We spent a lovely week at Le Palme Resort and felt truly welcomed from the moment we arrived. The bungalow was spotless, and the location couldn’t be better—just steps from the beach and close to everything we needed. A few moments of noise here and there, but nothing that spoiled our relaxing holiday. The resort’s entertainment team, made our week unforgettable. Their energy, friendliness, and ability to engage both kids and adults really brought the place to life. Every show and activity felt fresh and fun ,it added so much to our holiday We left feeling rested and would happily come back. missing the resort already 😢

Incredible views over the ocean and Mt Vesuvius! The deluxe double with terrace was huge and the terrace was so nice to lounge on in the morning or evening watching the sunset. The bed is super firm and comfy. Breakfast was plentiful. The staff are very friendly also. The parking is large, easy to locate, and well priced. You would definitely need a car to get here but the location is immaculate, Sorrento/ Positano/ Amalfi would be way too overcrowded and it is an easy 45min drive to Sorrento for ferries to the others which makes coming back to Towers Hotel at the end of the day even more magical.

We spent only 2 nights in Napoli.

We spent only 2 nights in Napoli. We are so disappointed in it! I am disgusted by the city and the people. We travel a lot around the world, and let me just say that it felt like we were in a backward country... I would not go back ever and I wouldnt recommend staying in this city.

The town is big enough to have everything, but small enough to get around. Perhaps a little too many tourists and certain times crammed into small streets. Of restaurants, many tourist traps. But we did find quaint small family run restaurants and had a few meals at the higher end. Mixed feelings about the higher end, some worth the extra cost, some were overly hyped. The people were very friendly, especially when speaking to them in Italian

Salerno is easy to walk around.

Salerno is easy to walk around. There are lots of little alleyways with cafes and nice restaurants nicely tucked away where you can people watch or just relax over a glass of something nice. The place comes alive in the evening. It is a great base for visits to Naples, Pompeii, Positano, Sorrento, etc.

Capri was wonderful and definitely worth staying a few days.

Capri was wonderful and definitely worth staying a few days. People were overall welcoming and helpful. Despite the overwhelming number of tourists they get, they still take the time to help someone who is lost or needs directions. If it is your first time, I would suggest staying in Capri as opposed to Anacapri. It is more convenient in my opinion and easier to get around. Once you have found your way around the island, you can decide which side is better suited to your interests and needs. While there, I took a bus for 2.80 Euro to Anacapri and also took a taxi for 25 Euro. If you go midday, the wait for the bus can be a long (30-40 mins for me), so if you are pressed for time or are a group, it makes more sense to take a taxi. Early in the morning and after about 5pm, the number of people decreases substantially. I absolutely recommend a boat tour of Capri as it is breath taking. There are large boat tours that are about 10 Euros (I think) and private tours (a few hundred Euros) so there is something for all budgets. I joined a small group tour and we were about 12 people so it was perfect for my needs. We got water, limoncello, and someone to tell us a bit about Capri.

All the restaurants we visited were helpful and delicious, ready to accommodate. It is very hilly there, and there are lots of steps getting into and out of the town center. You can also walk along the sides of the roads, but it is longer. The sea looks rather calm, but it isn't once you are out in it. The information we had about when the cathedral was open for viewing was not accurate. We did make a connection however.

The island of Ischia is well worth a visit and a stay of a few days. I loved my 3 days there. The port had some lovely restaurants and a visit to the castle is well worth the time and money. It has a fascinating history and the most amazing views over the bay of Naples. The town of Ischia is situated near the beach and has some nice shops and great restaurants to suit every budget. I had the best Arancini for E1.50! Ischia is about one and half hours from Naples on the slower ferry and about 50 mins on the hydrafoil. It is worth the time to get there. Charming place and the local people are friendly and helpful towards tourists. I would recommend Ischia for all types of travellers, with couples, young families and solo travellers in particular.

Here’s a warm, balanced review of Maiori:

Here’s a warm, balanced review of Maiori: Maiori is a wonderful place to stay on the Amalfi Coast. It has a relaxed, authentic atmosphere while still offering everything you need for a great holiday. The long, beautiful beach is perfect for spending the day by the sea, and there are plenty of excellent restaurants, cafés, and gelato shops to enjoy. One of Maiori’s biggest advantages is how easy it is to get around. The ferry and bus services make it simple to visit other towns along the Amalfi Coast, such as Amalfi, Positano, and Minori, without needing a car. There are also supermarkets and local shops within easy walking distance, making it very convenient for longer stays. Maiori is less crowded than some of the more famous Amalfi Coast towns, which makes it an ideal choice if you’re looking for a more peaceful and relaxing base while still being close to all the area’s highlights. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here and would happily return

Anacapri is the best place to stay when visiting Capri.

Anacapri is the best place to stay when visiting Capri. It is far less expensive and, frankly, easy-going than Capri, and during the summer months you will appreciate the slightly cooler temperatures. The island is well-served by buses (though they can get very cramped and you may have to wait), and staying in Capri makes some places closer but others less accessible, so it's really a wash.

Pompei is a cool city with a lot of history - not just the ruins but the modern town itself. Lots of kind people and great restaurants. We loved a restaurant called Na Pasta. The owner gave us great recommendations for a local specialty and even brought us some tasters of his other dishes while we were waiting for our meal to be ready for takeout. There is a cute little amusement park for young kids right by the ruins that our daughter enjoyed - something nice to give her something a little fun after spending a good chunk of the day doing more adult oriented activities. After visiting here and Naples, I am glad we stayed in Pompei instead of doing a day trip from Naples. Pompei is much cleaner, smaller and nicer and you can enjoy many things in this town before and after a Pompeii tour.
