Sorrento is everything you want Naples to be amd isn't. Sorrento and Capri are Naples's or Campania's redeeming graces. What a wonderful little place this sorrento! Walk around, get lost, talk to locals, head for sunset to a lookout point... i mean. Do everything you can't do in Naploes w/o getting robbed.
Salerno is the capital of the Campania Region and is not hailed as a tourist town but we loved it the people the food and the walks were amazing the evenings walking in the main shopping area and along the shore were beautiful . There is also a lot of history museums and lovely churches
Naples is a very nice city, I liked everything, I suggest Naples to everyone. Buy the artecard tutte region if you want to explore the city and its surroundings, like Pompei ruins and Amalfi coast. It was a very good value for money, you can use all public transportation in the Campania, as well as visit Pompei and the National Archeological museum for free, and enjoy one day on the Amalfi Coast using the public transportation for free with your artecard. It was an amazing adventure.
The city itself has a lot to offer and I didn't find is as dangerous as many tend to describe it. For me the real nuisance were the extremely impolite /even rude waiters. Maybe that's their disctinctive sign as in other cities in Campania they are friendly.
Excellent base for exploring the Bay of Naples and getting a taste of the Amalfi Coast with Sorrento - even if it's not quite on the actual Amalfi Coast itself. If you intend on seeing the real Italy, Pompei, Herculaneum and the picturesque setting of Sorrento Napoli is the best base for that if you have 3 or 4 days in the region. Antica Pizza Di'Michele is the best pizza restaurant i the world. Naples itself is walkable if not a bit hilly. Recommend the Campania Arte card if possible.
Great city. Not so dangerous as we thought about definitely not proposed to hire a car if you want to stay in Naples. Parking is very difficult and not very safe. We used the public transport need to be a little bit more careful in the train Circumvezuviana but even if it is more expensive use Campania Express for visiting Sorento Pompei and Ercolano. Great History we loved it!
Herculaneum, Pompeii and the Archealogical Museum are amazing! There is a tourist train to Herculaneum and Pompeii called the 'Campania Express' - would highly recommend this over the local trains. The historical centre of Naples would be nice to walk around if there weren't so many scooters and cars whizzing through. The castles are ok, but they are mostly taken up with offices. Castle dell'ovo has free access with views along both sides of the bay. Taxis are usually on a tariff but you can ask for the meter. We didn't have any problems with taxi drivers. Great for 3 or 4 nights, don't stay any longer than this.
We LOVED Positano! We spent the last two days of our week long tour of the Campania region there. It was the perfect way to end our vacation...relaxing in the sun, eating delicious seafood and soaking in the warm, friendly atmosphere of this gorgeous city. We ate dinner at Ristorante Il Ritrovo in Montepertuso (up on the mountain overlooking the sea). They sent a shuttle to pick us up from our hotel at no charge to make our dinner reservation. They also brought us back after dinner. It was great. You do not want to drive in or around Positano once you are there. The streets are very narrow and can be down right scary at times to maneuver. It is very easy to walk around Positano and is a must to make your own discoveries of quaint little shops and restaurants. We went at the end of April before tourist season was in full swing. Go, you will not be disappointed.
We finished our Italian honeymoon in Sorrento, having been to Florence and Venice in the days prior. Sorrento had by far the best food of the three locations and was certainly more affordable! A beautiful and compact town, you can walk the full width of the town center and back again in 2-3 miles along flat streets. We loved the spectacular views, the old buildings, and quaint little shops selling all sorts of souvenirs - including local ceramics, award winning dried pasta and herbs to take back home and relive the wonderful tastes of Sorrento. We were fascinated to see orange trees lining the streets of the Corso Italia, the main street! The drive in from Naples train station or airport is beautiful once you leave the city. I would recommend using a transfer service, rather than hiring a car in order to enjoy the views and also because the roads are so narrow and require a level of concentration that UK and Irish drivers are not be used to! Sorrento is brilliant base for further exploring the Amalfi coast, with many tours by bus, train and boat available in the town. You must see Pompeii - train ride away from Sorrento (take the Campania Express service - it's quicker and air conditioned). If you require gluten free food, you might imagine Italy to be a no-go. Sorrento has got you covered! Our hotel (Grand Hotel Royal) was superb and accommodating for GF needs, and the Foreigner's Club restaurant overlooking the sea in the centre of the town has a comprehensive menu certified by the official Coeliac association in Italy that even included GF chocolate tart and profiteroles.
Marina di Camerota
We had a wonderful weekend at Blue Marlin Vacanze!!! We traveled from Naples with two other families (16 people total) and stayed for a long weekend. It was comfortable and enjoyable to be there. Roberto was wonderful at meeting our needs even with the winter weather and COVID restrictions reducing the things to do in the town. I highly recommend this location and property for a great vacation in Campania, but a good distance from the more typical local venues.
Ercolano
Everything was clean, no problem with facilities whatsoever. Bed was comfy enough, common areas served their purpose. It's very refreshing to talk with like-minded people on the roof terrace to conclude a day of exploring the area. The beach - public and private - is a 5 minute walk from the hostel, two restaurants are 2 minutes' distance away as well. Staff were the nicest people, had great fun and would totally recommend to anyone travelling in Campania.
Pompei
Newly nicely furnished apartment on the first floor with balcony. From the bathroom window the Vesuv vulcano can be seen. Kitchen utensils and supplies like coffee, sugar, salt, oil, olive oil, noodles, sugo, water and wine were there. Shampoo and soap too. We could park our motorcycle under a shed on the premises. We used this place to explore Campania. Mary and her father were very kind and helpful hosts.
Hotel is walking distance from Pompeii ruins. We used it as a pivot for a Campania tour (Naples, Ercolano, Vesuvio, Paestum are 30 min drive) and Capri 45m by boat. Pompei is a quiet but fully served (2 train stations, bus and full of restaurants) Restaurant hotel (Convivio) serves the best food in town and it is located in a relaxing garden. Staff is always at disposal to accommodate whatever needs.
Castellammare di Stabia
Clean and spacious apartment with everything you need for a long stay. Amiable hosts. Great location if you are going to explore by car Campania region south of Napoli between Vesuvio, Pompei, Sorrento, Amalfi Coast, and Paestum. About 7 min driving to a big supermarket Auchan located next to Pompei and E45 highway, 45 min to Sorrento or Napoli, 1h 15 min to Amalfi, 2h to Paestum.
Villa Maria was the best accommodation we had during our trip around Campania. The seaview from room was stunning and the typical italian sweet breakfast was delicious and fresh. Hotel staff was very nice and smiling - higly recommend to stay there for few nights.
Castellammare di Stabia
An entire apartment in a house, parking space and everything you need to explore the Campania / Pompeii area. Always hot water and equipped kitchen. Very nice place.
Although it's pretty tacky everything is clean and tidy. The food was the best we've had during our trip in Campania. Staff was super nice and helpful as well.
Beatiful view, great hotel, very pleasant, beautiful area 😀
Absolutely beautiful setting close enough to tourist attractions (about an hour to Naples and a bit more to Vesuvius, Pompeii and Sorrento) but the local villages are not to be missed and a visit into Benevento is a must, so would recommend horsing a car. The food in the bar, bistro and Michelin starred restaurant is exceptional and breakfast is a feast to behold. The staff at the hotel made our holiday from room keeping, ground staff, bar and restaurant staff, receptionists to the manager, they were all so welcoming and accommodating.
Excellent in every sense of the word!!
Carmine at reception was excellent , and all other staff very pleasent
The beach, pool, entertainment, it was clean and staff were helpful even with a bot of a language barrier. They offered us transport to the nearby railway station and picked us up. There is plenty to see and do in and around the location.
The facility and internal/external options and the beauty of the place and the history of the place.
The entire staff (especially Luigi) was so accommodating! We had such a great experience staying at Laqua Chatme. The rooms were clean, the view was amazing and we felt at home. The breakfast buffet was delicious! We can’t wait to go back.
The Director had organized everything to allow us to charge our EV car! She was very friendly and really took care of it!
the property and environment are beautiful, I would love to visit there anytime I am within the town again
Elegant, comfortable, furnished with impeccable taste. Every corner of hotel is different and unique. The view from the room is enchanting. Service is perfect. Memorable experience of dinner in restaurant A place you would dream to be back soon
