Villa Poseidon & Events was an enormously, wonderful surprise. The views of the Tyranean Sea, the entire city of Salerno with its ancient buildings to the well-groomed beach with its boardwalk, park and palm trees are unequaled. You can see yachts, ferries, sailboats, powerboats on the sea or moored at one of the marinas that are like bookends to the beautiful beach. The Villa is exceptionally maintained and manicured. The cobblestone courtyard and parking area behind the dynamic wrought iron ,app-operated gates are painted in a sea-shell scallop pattern to match the white design of the gates. The grounds are huge with fruit-tree lined paths, many terraced sitting areas with glamorous lawn and patio furniture. A series of walkways and stairs all lit-up at night with dome, neon lights or lanterns with candles. The huge kidney shaped pool is surrounded by more sitting areas, a dining area under a huge pergola , another overlooking the pool sheltered from the side of the mountain by flowering trees. For the travellers who hike or those who like to get their steps-in, the stairs and patio-stoned walkways of the resort lead to 291 stairs that take you down, past a local mountain road, down further to the edge of Old Town Salerno. To return to the Villa, the town has provided a series of three covered escalators built alongside the stairs to the mountain road. Beyond that to the Villa’s private doorway to their property, one must literally retrace their steps. The property is family owned and operated and since there are only 10 rooms all named after flowers, the staff devote themselves to your every need. The rooms have every modern convenience. The lobby and eating areas are gorgeous. No wonder brides choose the Villa for their wedding venue. It’s the ultimate private romantic getaway. It is paradise.

I have been here many times and it's a good alternative to staying in Sorrento - ie you are visiting the Amalfi coast. Salerno offers you a good spot from where you can visit Amalfi, Caserta, il Vesuvio, Pestum and many other spots in the area. I highly reccomend Vetri as the beach to visit for an afternoon and then have dinner-- it's close and easy. Salerno is the other side of Amalfi if you are considering Napoli as the place to stay to visit Amalfi- I have stayed in Sorrento as well. Keep in mind getting in and out of the Amalfi coast requires driving very windy roads. Other fact to consider that Napoli is only 1'10" by fast train from Rome- Salerno is a little farther.

I had done a lot of research before our trip and Salerno...

I had done a lot of research before our trip and Salerno proved to be a great base for our 6 nights stay. We traveled around by train a lot and it was very easy and affordable to get around. The ferry port is close to the train station where you can easily get to the seaside towns like Amalfi, Positano etc. Lots of great places to eat out too and there is a convenient supermarket.

Salerno is a great base for visiting the Amalfi Coast, Capri...

Salerno is a great base for visiting the Amalfi Coast, Capri, Pompeii, and Naples. Boat trips to Amalfi Coast and Capri departing from the port in Salerno. The city offers a nice mix of culture and sun, sea, and beach, with public beaches both in town and just a few kilometers away. Salerno itself also has plenty of history, sights, authentic Italian restaurants, and the best ice cream in town at Bar Gelateria Nettuno.

Salerno is a really convenient place to explore the Amalfi...

Salerno is a really convenient place to explore the Amalfi Coast. It is located on the main train routes so it can be accessed more easily than some of the other villages on the Amalfi Coast. It is also less expensive than Amalfi. It is easy to take the ferry from Salerno to the other villages and the ferry ride is a pleasant one (we went to Amalfi, then Positano, then back to Salerno). We also took a local train to visit the Greek ruins at Paestum. We only allocated 24 hours to "see" the Amalfi coast during our Italian vacation and I don't think it would have been possible to see everything we did if we had not chosen Salerno as our base.

I think Salerno is a great option.

I think Salerno is a great option. Several trains going in to Naples per day. Several trains to Paestum. Several ferries to different parts of Amalfi Coast. And there are good food and shopping options in the city. People are super friendly. There is a lot of life in the town but not the energy and chaos of Naples. Our B&B had a large patio where we would eat a late cheese/meat board and nice bottle of wine... It was so relaxing after a long day swimming or visiting nearby sites. It's big enough to have everything you need but small enough to feel relaxed.

Salerno is easy to walk around.

Salerno is easy to walk around. There are lots of little alleyways with cafes and nice restaurants nicely tucked away where you can people watch or just relax over a glass of something nice. The place comes alive in the evening. It is a great base for visits to Naples, Pompeii, Positano, Sorrento, etc.

This apartment felt brand new and was exceptionally clean. All modern amenities, fresh linens and a very comfortable bed. The location was perfect and walking distance to busses, train station, restaurants, the prominade and shopping. The host was proactive and made sure I was comfortable during my 8 night stay. I highly recommend Gonzaga Home for your stay in Salerno. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ If you have a chance, be sure to check out the neighbouring town of Vietri sul Mare.

Hotel Montestella was an easy, short walk (level ground, 8-10 minutes) from the train station on the main road through the town. Our room was clean and comfortable and also offered a large balcony with a city view. The breakfast was good with many options including hot food choices. Don’t miss the Cathedral of Salerno dedicated to Saint Mathew with its elaborately decorated crypt dedicated to the saint.
