Absolutely incredible stay at UMITO Atami Bettei. From the moment we arrived, everything felt special and carefully thought out. The room was beautiful, spotless, and designed perfectly, but the real highlight was the breathtaking ocean view - honestly even better than the photos. The level of hospitality and attention to detail was exceptional. Every small touch, from the atmosphere to the service, made us feel relaxed and welcomed. You can really feel how much care and effort goes into creating the experience here. This ended up being one of the best hotel stays we’ve ever had in Japan. Peaceful, luxurious, and unforgettable. We already miss waking up to that view and can’t wait to come back again. Highly recommended.

1. service: Our flight delayed a lot, but the night shift front desk waited us and treated us nicely. Truly appreciate that. And they reply requests very fast, awesome! 2. room: the room we stayed was huge, the onsen was private so you could enjoy it anytime. I liked tabi they provided. 3. locations: Though hotel was hard to walk to arrive, but took taxi wasn’t expensive, about 770 yen. Convenient stores were nearby, good.

Absolutely loved this hotel! The room was perfectly equipped, the beds were comfy and the outdoor bath a true delight. The walk up there can be difficult since it is quite steep and we had our baggage with us, but a taxi there didn't cost much. The staff was very kind, they even prepared a translation of the key points to Spanish, they really made us feel at home.

Room was really big and very comfortably furnished! Tatami area was well maintained and was great for sitting and relaxing with friends. The view of the beach was amazing from the room. Breakfast buffet had a great spread and view too. The onsen was nice as well, with an outdoor bathing area. All in all, the hotel was actually much more than what we expected, especially in its condition and facilities.

Atami felt tired and quiet.

Atami felt tired and quiet. We were a bit disappointed that everything closed early. We managed to find 2 lovely places to eat dinner. Lucky we had a car and could explore Izu as we had the best days but we would not stay in Atami again.

The setting was beautiful and the room was nice.

The setting was beautiful and the room was nice. The food was not really suitable for most Americans. There were lots of strange dishes that quite honestly didn't seem edible including raw lobster. The people that work there are friendly, but would not accommodate any request for anything special. They had us wearing slippers the entire time, but the slippers didn't fit and they didn't really have a very good supply of slippers. We asked for a late checkout and at first they said yes and then an hour or two beforehand they said no, and we're unwilling to be flexible. When it came to leaving, they pretty much thorough us out there without any fanfare or gratitude.

Atami is just too full of tourists.

Atami is just too full of tourists. Crowded and no feeling of being in Japan. There is virtually nothing to see in the town except Atami castle. This is a rebuilt castle where each floor (1-5) is a type of exhibition. Only one floor with wooden replicas of many old famous castles is good to see. However, to get there you must buy a $9 cable car ticket and then another $10 entrance fee as well as a taxi fee to get to the cable car. Not worth it.

Quiet seaside town with no tourists apart from us.

Quiet seaside town with no tourists apart from us. Easy to get to from Osaka. Stayed in a traditional ryokan (tattoo friendly). Spent the day walking along the harbour to the ropeway up to Atami castle which had several different art displays and museums including an adults only one and a great view of the coast. Away from the beach things were pretty steep so a car might have been a sensible option

Fun beach town with lots of onsen and a million different...

Fun beach town with lots of onsen and a million different sweets and snacks to sample! The beach was soft sand and the water was suitable for young kids. The shopping streets around the train station and Atami Ginza have tons of shops and cafes selling all sorts of sweets and local seafood specialties. Atami Castle is not a historic castle, but had great views and interactive exhibits ideal for kids, including a free arcade/game center. The ropeway up the mountain was fun too. We enjoyed the Sanremo Harbor cruise, especially the glass bottom boat. (Just note that you really can only see fish while the boat is docked.) Parking can be pretty difficult around the station, but was quite easy and convenient near the beach.

Atami was lovely!

Atami was lovely! The train station is larger than expected with many buses going in all directions. There are lockers to store bags and a couple food options close. I took buses everywhere. The Pasmo card works in Atami. There is shopping and food throughout downtown. There are several hot springs to see in town. The beach was peaceful in February. I watched the sunrise over the water. By accident I found the bus to the Mt Fuji overlook. 2 days was not quite enough to see everything. My hotel KKR Atami had an Onsen with a sauna with a cold pool, bubbling pool, inside and outside still pool. I would visit again!

Outstanding place! From the moment we walked in we felt welcome. A stunning location and view. The room was amazing and traditional Japanese style with paper screen and matting. The beds were super comfortable and duvet gorgeous. The onsen was great. We arrived later but they made us delicious dinner, all included in the price. And the breakfast was great . Really loved it here wish we could have stayed longer. A great location to explore the local area. Plenty to do for a few days. Loves it!

Also you can use pick up service from hotel to the station when you check-out. People who are staying here are mostly Japanese and middle age people. So what I mean is that everyone is so mannered and gave me chill vibe.

We spent 4 nights at the ryokan. At first we were worried that the booking would be too long. However we loved the trip back in time to a sleepy onsen town The banquet for one dinner and one breakfast was outstanding. We made the most of the Atami area and having lived in Japan it made everything easier

The host is so warm and friendly. The room is larger than most Japanese hotels. Our room, the bathroom, and the living room all have a good view. The bus stop is only 2 min walk from the entrance, so it's convenient to go from Atami station.
