We loved the Odakyu Hotel de Yama – it had so much charisma with great quality wooden furniture adorning each floor. The hotel is surrounded by lush green gardens and overlooking the majestic Lake Ashinoko. The hotel ambience was calm and relaxing, the reception staff very polite and helpful. The hotel had a free daily shuttle bus taking guests back and forth into town. Our room was lovely, very large and spacious as was the bathroom. Guests could select breakfast at their two restaurants, one servicing western breakfast the other Japanese. I tried the western set breakfast served by waiters – fruit juices, coffee/tea top ups, choice of egg dish, fresh warm croissants & toast with real jam in jars! I loved it. My daughter tried the Japanese set menu which was a wonderful experience for her and she loved it.

Cozy and friendly. The superior rooms are nice looking and comfortable, but a little too pricy for what you get. I guess the location is also a part of the package.

Absolutely incredible staff from the moment of arrival to the moment of departure. In particular, Yuuta was so helpful, attentive, and downright elegant. An EXCEPTIONAL breakfast and dinner were included with our room, prepared as Japanese interpretation of multi-course French cuisine. The view from the dining area was stunning. Absolutely wonderful. I believe all rooms include a private outdoor onsen (hot spring bath) where you can soak for hours while enjoying nature.

We arrived in the last days of the cloudy season.

We arrived in the last days of the cloudy season. On day three we finally could see Fuji-san from the hotel room balcony. If it had not rained we might have ventured out on longer walks or visited more museums. We did not think too hard about the rain though because the room has its own balcony with ozen-water in an ourdoor bathtub made of Hinoki wood. Believe me, you can get it as hot as you want. It has its own atmosphere to be able to take an onzen-bath in pooring rain. - I would not have experienced that if the first days were not in the last remains of the cloudy season. I recommend to visit the Pola Museum of Art.

Hakone is a great place to relax.

Hakone is a great place to relax. There are many onsen and many cute shops. But there might not be much to do in Hakone apart from that. Its close to many other places, which you can easily visit for day trips. In Hakone i definitely recommend all the museums and galleries, a boat trip to lake ashi and a visit to some onsen.

I enjoyed my trip to hakone so much the first time that I went back there again!! It's a beautiful place with alot to do in such a small area. I recommend taking the beautiful swiss inspired train up Gora mountain and experiencing the onsen town. The best things are Lake Ashi including the pirate boat, the chair lift, the team car and train, the volcanic sulphur and black eggs, the Open Air museum (which was surprisingly the best thing and the French restaurant at Hakone Hotel. On a nice day Hakone is the most picturesque place. On a bad day you can’t even see out the window for the fog and rain. Could go either way. Typical mountainous area. The Hakone pass is worth it. Get 3 days if you are there that long as it only costs 400yen extra. Our bus trip from the station was 2000 yen so we even if it is an arrival or departure day, it is worth the money.

Hakone is a unique site that offers the visitor multiple ways to get around. The Hakone Free Pass is essential even if you have your own vehicle. We stored our bags at the pier of Motohakoneko and did a loop tour of ship through Lake Ashi, ropeway to Sounzan, Cable Car to Gora, train to Kowakien, and finally bus back to Motohakoneko. We had a great meal there and returned by bus to Odawara!

Á jewel in Japan so many attraction to see and do. I would recommend booking a room with your own Hot Tub or an Onsen that is attached to your hotel great to soak after a days sightseeing. The Hakone Free Pass is also a must allowing your to use almost all public transport, Pirate Cruise ships and cable cars to get you around the Hakone region and see all it has to offer. It's hard to believe this wonderful spot is only just over an hour on the Shinkansen from Tokyo.

It was an amazing stay at Yuyado Zen, two nights were perfect as we get to spend time exploring Hakone and also fully enjoy the onsen stay. It is near to Ubako Station where you can ride the ropeway to attractions like Owakudani and Lake Ashi. Hotel staffs were very helpful with directions and offer free pickup/drop off to bus station. The food and hospitality were just amazing, probably the best meals we had in Japan! The room was very well maintained, clean and spacious as well. Highly recommend!
