There’s a lot to do there if you want to. The Hakone travel pass is well worthwhile. The Open Air Museum beautifully laid out and filled with the work from world rebound artists. Spend at least one night in an Onsen. The trip on the boat, cable car and rope ride have some beautiful views.
A scenic full of nature hills n mountain. Good for hiking and photo of scenic autumn view. The best volcanic onsen i’ve Eleven had. I couldn’t stop keep going to it. Generally the staffs in tourist area here are less friendly compared to other places that I been in japan. Fujishiyama, Tokyo , Nagoya, Osaka, Kyoto has better attention to non-Japanese speaking tourist. I went to the shrine hakone, scenic it by the lake ashi. The rope railway and the sightseeing boat is a worth trying for the first timer tourist to Hakone. I drive a car to go around Hakone areas. It’s nice. Driving in Hakone is easy and not hactic at all.
It is such a nice and peaceful town and a beautiful lake to see mt Fuji. It’s a little but difficult to navigate but the best way to get to places is with the Hakone Tozan bus. I really enjoyed the peaceful walks along the edge of Lake Ashi as well as the sightseeing hotspots like the pirate ship and the gondola.
Hakone has well-planned out transportation system so it is really easy to get around. Get the Free Pass, definitely worth the price and time saved from queuing to purchase tickets. I enjoyed the experience at the hot spring hotel and glass bead making workshop at Gora park.
Hakone is so picturesque. During my time I was lucky to see Mount Fuji so often. They said it was rare to be able to see it so clearly as it's usually very cloudy. Visit lake Ashi and travel on the pirate ship from Motohakone to Togendai, then take the ropeway up to Sounzan. Stop at Owakudani for some black eggs, eggs that have been smoked with the charcoal of the mountain. Having one is meant to extend your life by 7 years! Pasmo doesn't work of the ropeway and cable car so you will have to pay separately. You can buy a 2 day pass or a 3 day pass to get around Hakone on train, bus, ropeway and cable so you don't have to pay separately.
We did the Hakone round pass which took up most of our 1st day. We only stayed overnight therefore did not see any other attractions. I would highly recommend going through the Hakone round pass. Taking the ropeway to Owakudani where you get to see the active sulphur volcanic crater was my favorite site. The hakone round pass will allow you unlimited use of the tozan train, ropeway, sightseeing pirate ship and local buses. I would recommend staying at least 2 nights in Hakone to experience the other attractions as well.

It is the best hotel experience I ever have! The owners are amazingly nice. I never really thought such nice persons could exist! They helped us with everything: carrying our luggages, suggesting every places to go in Hakone (with maps and all the information I need) and taking . They even drove us to the onsen near by and bought us Miso Soup and some snacks! The room is very spacious, clean, and comfortable. It’s a combination between modern hotel room and ryokan too! I really really recommend this place for everyone

The staffs are very nice. The location is close to gora station, hotel staff will pick you up if you just give them a call in advance (don't try walk there by yourselves, though it's just 5 minutes road on the map, the path is quite steep). Though the receptionist can't speak English very well, they use a translate machine instead to help communication, so no issues at all. Dinner and breakfast is exquisite (trust me, i have tried a few japanese style hotels and their meal). Onsen quality is as expected.

Amazing accommodation, tucked away in a quiet location surrounded by green trees! Free coffee and tea in the common areas was great and onsens open until 1am. We loved the small hotel feel of this place. We personally had an amazing stay because we hired a car and had the ability to drive everywhere. Because Hakone is a regional type of area, catching public transport would reduce the quality of your stay here because whilst it’s off the highway, it’s abit out of the way. Positively, thats what makes it beautiful!

I like almost everything! I loved our room. We booked the one with an open air bath but we didnt really use it. We were able to enjoy the balcony, though. I like that eveyone gets a yukata and wear it around the hotel and when having meal. I also loved that we get to use a private onsen for 2 nights for free! I recommend to book with a halfboard! The food were very good and interesting! The hotel is also very near Naka-gora cable car station. If money is not an issue, we would have stayed here longer! :D

Just a few steps from the Hakone- Yumoto station makes it a perfect jump off point to other scenic places in Hakone. All staff are very pleasant and nice. The traditional japanese room with outdoor onsen was beautiful. The sound of the river nearby while dipping in the onsen makes the experience very relaxing. I love their attention to details such as traditional sweets and thermos filled with cold water. The way they explain the dinner.

Location was great, with a superb view of Lake Ashinoko (and Mount Fuji when it's clear). Can even get the beautiful view of the lake from the room and the open air onsen. It's a very walkable distance from the boat cruise stop Moto Hakone and very near from the Hakone Shrine. The staff were super attentive, kind, helpful and knowledgeable. It is not easy to get around, but the staff made it easy to understand.

The bunker room is very spacious. I think all the bunker rooms have a bed for double, therefore, it is very spacious for a solo traveler. The onsens in Hakone are comparatively expensive, in Tokyo, it is 460 yen for a bath, but in Hakone, 2000 or 4000 yen is normal, but the hostel has a 500 yen coupon for a 1050 yen onsen. It is within walk distance from the hostel, and very well maintained.

1. Very convenient to Gora station! Which has a very busy ropeway, so can wake up early and beat the queues! 2. The rooms were nice and I liked the Japanese dividers between the beds! 3. Staff showed me how to get to this lovely Onsen with a killer view of Lake Ashi! So that was nice and friendly. 4. The living room was actually quite comfortable.

The room with the private balcony was insanely lovely. Bed super comfortable Outdoors onsen is superb Excellent Japanese breakfast Free ramen 🍜 and free beers 🍺 at 22:30 Free shuttle between the hotel and the train station Free washing machine & dryer A lot of extra bonuses that make a difference. A truly romantic and marvellous experience!

The staff at the reception were so nice they waited for us, way pass the check in time. They were so helpful as well, the lady at the reception printed us directions to Lake Ashi. The location and hotel is so peaceful and private, you can have an epiphany there! And the onsen was private and the view from it was relaxing.

Nice location, very close to the lake with good access by cable car and ship. Otherwise there's not a lot around, which for one night and with dinner at the hotel was fine... Great onsen in modern design, including a steam bath outside. Average (good) food (at dinner salad, rice, soup, dessert... are buffet style).

First stop of the bus route we were leaving on so we managed to snag seats easily and have space for our luggage. Lovely room, great private onsen bath with beautiful sounds of the waterfall Good location - could easily walk to Hakone open air museum via a lovely bushy track and easily catch a bus down to Lake Ashi

Everything else is wonderful. Staffs are warm and food is great, and you have access to the comfortable onsen both in your room and in the public onsen baths. The location is superb, you can access hakone shrine and other attractions located on the south of Lake Ashi by walking.

I’ve stayed in many ryokans in Hakone and have to say that the rooms are rather huge for that budget friendly price. Surprised that our room comes with a lovely view full of greens. Splendid! Staffs are all smileys. Good indoor Onsen, clean and perfect temperature.

Great ryokan experience. We got room with private onsen which make experience fantastic. Food was delicious and getting served in your room was just feeling you special. This ryokan looks like japan with best window you can find.

Fantastic hotel with a wonderful view of the lake. Couldnt ask for a more relaxing place as a center to visit Hakone. Very clean and luxurious onsen. But the Food and Beverages dept. needs a overhaul.

It is a joy to find such a place as Okada Hotel. Everything was perfect. We were concerned that the room might be too small for 4 people, but actually it was really big, with a large tatami room, and a separate area with 2 more beds (and a great view of the river and the mountains in the surrounding area). We had a plan that included breakfast and dinner, both were amazing. So many options and everything tasted really good. The greatest part was the public bath (onsen). There are 2 options, one inside the hotel and the other in an annex building (Yu no Sato) that was outstanding. This one offers a rotenburo (open air bath) with many bathing options. Staying at Okada Hotel was one of the greatest memories in our 20-day family trip in Japan.
