Super location, great position and views, really nice people and great food too! We loved it and you really do need to book room, breakfast and dinner on the island as the choices are limited, and it’s well worth it!

Thank you for a wonderful stay in your lovely comfortable original private house - you thought of everything!! We really appreciated the restaurant bookings, especially New Orinpia. And your local knowledge. The house is so quite and private. Another recommendation from us: Pan Tokoli - nearby.

Enjoyed the museums lots of unique art exhibits.

Enjoyed the museums lots of unique art exhibits. Enjoyed the blue beer exclusive to the island. Food was great everywhere we tried. We walked and cycled and used the bus to explore the island. Nice to get out in nature and explore a quieter pace.

I travelled from Okayama and stayed the night at Naoshima.

I travelled from Okayama and stayed the night at Naoshima. I think next time I would book 2 nights so I have a full day to relax into the art and the island but also felt the time I had was great to see it. There are so many art projects to see - I booked the Chichu and Minamidera poject beforehand which sell out quickly. These were my main focus - I like to create as much space between to explore. These were both amazing! - book through the Benesse art site and book these before you go. Must things are closed mondays (inlcuding food places etc) Also make sure you book a bicycle before you go!! I didn't and they were booked out - the island is about 30 min walk max to most places so not too bad but a bike would have been ideal. There are some great gluten free options for food around the main village sites and amazing coffee The trains and ferry getting there were really easy. You can just get tickets as you go. There were a few places closed for exhibition changes which I'd been keen to see next time. Mid May was perfect since its not too busy but open

The art was great, particularly Chichu and Bennesse museums.

The art was great, particularly Chichu and Bennesse museums. The museum buildings themselves are just spectacular and some of the art exhibits are immersive. The island and surrounding area are so lovely that it would be worth the trip even without the art. Very hilly for cycling—rented e-bikes helps lot! Naoshima Coffee a gorgeous location with great coffee and breakfasts.

It's not very easy getting to the island.

It's not very easy getting to the island. From Kyoto we took a shinkansen, another train, a bus, and a ferry. Transportation on the island itself is quite limited, and riding the small bus with luggage is a hassle. Most of the museums are ok, though the vaunted architecture left me cold -- many made of what appears to be precast concrete blocks with "bullet holes" that are neither attractive nor functional. The New Museum of Art had a couple of displays that made the trip worthwhile for me, so try not to miss it. Overall a 7/10 experience.

The island has some of the best art museums I've visited, not in the amount of art pieces, but the flow, quality and architectural side of them. It is very much needed to book everything in advance, especially the more popular museums and electric bicycles, it is most definitely worth to move around the island like that.

Beautiful Serene Please take good care of your beauty

Beautiful Serene Please take good care of your beauty Don't make too many new modern buildings that cannot emerge ór blend to the nature or to the local traditional culture. Preserve your traditional village, preserve your traditional culture and be proud of them by showing them in your daily businesses. The most important thing is please take good care of your nature environment.
