Location is perfect, right in front of the stairs going up to the temple. Staff is extremely nice and helpful. I had the 10 futons room on the ground floor which is very large and super elegant. I love the decoration. Everything is super clean and the bathroom is very confortable . This ryokan is very authentic and a real gem!

Location is convenient for tourists. The villa is beautiful. It's so cozy with the hammock near the window, the comfortable traditional tatami rooms and the lovely welcome gifts we liked very much. Garden, kitchen, bathroom, everything is spotless.

What a find this hotel is-set in a lovely picturesque quiet village of Yoshida- the hotel which comprises nine floors has only got 16 accommodation units, each is like a mini apartment with stunning views. The staff could not have been more helpful they went out of their way to make our visit memorable.. My wife and I are both vegetarian and they made a real effort to cook a special breakfast for us every morning and a beautiful evening meal. I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough.

Super location, great position and views, really nice people and great food too! We loved it and you really do need to book room, breakfast and dinner on the island as the choices are limited, and it’s well worth it!

Sakaide Grand Hotel is a large hotel near the harbour area of Sakaide. The hotel - as well as most of Sakaide itself - has a bit of Showa-romance felling. The rooms are largend the breakfast is great! There is a public bath on the third floor, but upon arriving you may be given a ticket for the nearby large public bath, where most of the towns people seem to go in the evening.

The onsen was a great addition to the overall stay, especially the outdoor one. The room was very spacious for two people and we had a perfect view. The staff also went above and beyond to make sure we had a memorable stay and treated us with a drink and a printed photo of us from our dinner as a honeymoon gift!

A great medium size city in Shikoku that offers all that you need to spend a couple of days relaxing. Good food/ shopping/sites and an attractive waterfront. We enjoyed touring the castle and world-famous garden as well as trolling in the shopping area. Takamatsu is not as tourist driven so it was more like being in a Japanese city vs a tourist destination.

I ejoyed my stay in the Kabuki theatre, where a well-knolweged guide gave a great commentary. The trip to Konpira San was interesting. You will enojoy the walk to the main builiding, the grand view of Kotohira, the souvenir stores, and the museum with old Japanese paintings and art works.

Transport wasn't ideal at this time of year but if you timed the buses right you could see a lot of Shodoshima island in a few days. It was great being surrounded by olive and orange groves. It had a very Mediterranean feel to it. From my resort I only had to cross the road to Olive Park and it's many attractions. A lovely coffee shop, aptly called Dilly Dally, was only a few doors away. I visited the site of the movie "24 eyes", Angel Road, Olive Park and strolled along various beaches. A lovely place to wind down after Tokyo. I mainly cooked for myself but found a coffee shop that did lovely gluten free muffins near Angel Road.

The island is beautiful but quite hilly.

The island is beautiful but quite hilly. There is only one taxy on the Island so the only way to move around is either by foot, riding a bus that loops around the island during the day, or renting e-bikes. All around the island you see signs warning bike users to slow down. I am used to ride on a bicycle but I am afraid that people that are not used to should be very careful, especially down these steep hills. also, people that stay overnight should reserve meals, ahead of time as there are few restaurants and they operate very limited hours.

I stayed for one night and the next morning, I went hiking to Takaya shrine. I have to say, it was absolutely worth it. The view is worth every struggle you take in climbing to the top. Unfortunately, I did not that have that much time to explore the whole area or/and nearby islands.

Unwelcoming, Bare House

Unwelcoming, Bare House We informed the host that we would arrive between 4 and 5 p.m. When we arrived, no one was there to welcome us, and we hadn’t received the access code or even the house number. We tried to contact the host but couldn’t reach him. After waiting for 30 minutes in the parking lot, we started knocking on doors in the surrounding houses. Eventually, we found a small cottage where a staff member was present, and only at 5 p.m. did we finally receive an email with the access code. The house itself felt cold and uninviting, with cheap and uncomfortable furniture. There was no iron or proper kitchen knives, no instructions for the washing machine, and several other missing amenities. The apartment was also not clean upon arrival. I understand that we need to adapt to Japanese culture, but I also expect that a host who aims to attract international travelers respects the needs and expectations of those travelers. This host advertises on an international booking platform to attract tourists, but clearly does not understand the true meaning of hospitality. Although the host responded quickly to our complaints, our overall experience here was disappointing.

Takamatsu had a good balance of nature and city. Most things were within walking distance. Local transport was easy to navigate. Takamatsu lived up to its reputation for Udon noodles. The Ritsurin gardens were a highlight.

I travelled from Okayama and stayed the night at Naoshima.

I travelled from Okayama and stayed the night at Naoshima. I think next time I would book 2 nights so I have a full day to relax into the art and the island but also felt the time I had was great to see it. There are so many art projects to see - I booked the Chichu and Minamidera poject beforehand which sell out quickly. These were my main focus - I like to create as much space between to explore. These were both amazing! - book through the Benesse art site and book these before you go. Must things are closed mondays (inlcuding food places etc) Also make sure you book a bicycle before you go!! I didn't and they were booked out - the island is about 30 min walk max to most places so not too bad but a bike would have been ideal. There are some great gluten free options for food around the main village sites and amazing coffee The trains and ferry getting there were really easy. You can just get tickets as you go. There were a few places closed for exhibition changes which I'd been keen to see next time. Mid May was perfect since its not too busy but open
