The place was incredibly peaceful. It's situated near Bodai Temple, and in the morning, I accompanied some people in their worship rituals at the temple. Experiencing this Japanese-style garden worship was truly a new and enriching experience for me.

The hotel is only 100 meters from Seta station. the staffs are very friendly & helpful. i ask the supervisor to make a reservation for dinner & the supervisor voluntarily brought us personally to the restraurant, Tell the owner we don’t speak Japanese & explain to us how to order. their housekeeping fid a very good job in keeping the room sparkling clean. they deserve more than the maximum stars allowable.

A single room with everything you need. There is an ice maker and a microwave near the elevator. From JR Otsu Station to the hotel, I can find the FOODS MARKET where I can grab breakfast before heading out for sightseeing and dinner when I return to the hotel.

The street the hotel is in is beautiful.

The street the hotel is in is beautiful. There's lots to see and do nearby. You can go to the lake. There's a couple of really amazing cafés and restaurants nearby. The locals really want you to try and spend time in their town competing with Kyoto can't be easy, but it's well worth spending a day exploring Otsu.

Enjoy the 1st day in Kyoto.

Enjoy the 1st day in Kyoto. Do the Hop On Hop Off bus (both Blue and Red Lines), which stops at all the major sites. Then train to Otsu for relaxing stay at Lake Biwa. Go on a sightseeing / luncheon cruise or organised trips - example the cable car at Sakamoto. Plenty of places to eat including 36th floor of Lake Biwa Otsu Princess Hotel with great views.

From my perspective, there wasn't much to do within a mile...

From my perspective, there wasn't much to do within a mile walk of the property. Only one restaurant off site in that mile two convenience stores and if you walk a bit further a pretty mellow "redlight" district

Otsu Town seems not beautiful at first sigh.

Otsu Town seems not beautiful at first sigh. But go to have a walk behind the hotel. The countryside is like a Miyazaki movie getting real ! You can go near from there : temples, beach, ski station with incredible view… But with the hotel’s shuttle and the station you have Kyoto, very near, Nara, Osaka a little farther. You’ve got all Kansaï by JR… A good tip : when you go to the station to Shirahige shrine, don’t take bus but walk with GPS. The way is just incredible with village, other shrines so quiet and monkey looking at you from the forest behind rice fields…

Otsu, located near Kyoto, is another treasure place in Japan...

Otsu, located near Kyoto, is another treasure place in Japan. Faced to Biwa lake it has many historical monument and cultural hotspots. In summer the big firework event is so famous to attract many people. In Biwako Hall many world class concerts and plays are performed. Local fishes and sakes are another charm for visitors. Once you come here you cannot help missing this unforgettable city.

Inase Otsu Machiya was an exceptionally beautiful property, having breakfast in the communal tatami room is a highlight in itself. The Japanese-style family room we stayed in was very spacious and extremely comfortable. The staff were extremely kind and attentive, too. The communal bathing area was nicely arranged, too. For reference, most of the taxi drivers from Otsu station seem to know where Inase Otsu Machiya is, so you should have no issue arriving by foot or taxi (600-800 yen). Would I stay here again? Definitely!

Check in was right on time and shuttle pickup was smooth- journey took about 5 min from ogotoonsen station. We requested for halal meals and were very pleased with the array of traditional Japanese cuisine for dinner and breakfast. The private bath in the room was great too with a beautiful view of the lake. We loved the tatami and futon prepared carefully and the facial wash, toner and moisturiser included in the toiletries 🥰

High-rise hotel building next to Lake Biwa, very large facilities. Many restaurants in the hotel itself. We enjoy walking and biking around the area which is very good atmosphere. Free shuttle bus to and from train station. Free luggage delivery service from Kyoto station so you can drop them off and enjoy Kyoto before continuing to Lake Biwa which is only 15 minutes away by train.

Our room was fantastic, with every comfort, spacious and with private hot spring overlooking the lake. We were given beautiful traditional clothing to wear in the hotel. The hotel is easily accessible from Kyoto and a shuttle bus service picks you up from the local train station. The staff was extremely friendly and polite, and we had an amazing time. I absolutely recommend it!

The Koo Hotel team really tries to regenerate Otsu the town’s importance as travel destination for travelers to Kyoto. It is really worth the stay and perfect alternative location as accommodation and still visit Kyoto. Very nice staff.
