Only a 5-minute walk from JR Yamagata Station’s West exit, the Richmond Hotel Yamagata Ekimae features comfortable rooms with free Wi-Fi, beverage vending machines and massage treatments. Near station, room is clean and comfortable, breakfast is good
Set in Yamagata, Yamagata Nishiguchi Washington Hotel is directly connected to JR Yamagata Station. Free WiFi is available in all rooms at the hotel. The location is great, being right next to the main Yamagata Station (connected by covered walkway) and a short walk to Kajo Park old castle grounds (where the sakura at this time of year are amazing!). The hotel is at the top of what appears to be the tallest building in Yamagata city, and the views from the reception area on 24th floor, as well as from our rooms on 21st floor, are just incredible. You can look over the whole city and the snow-covered mountains beyond. The rooms that we booked, deluxe double, were very comfortable with an extra table and two armchairs from which to enjoy the view. WiFi was excellent. We did not try the hotel restaurants, but there are many other good restaurants in the building downstairs and a short walk away around the station. The tourist information office is also on the 1st floor. Undercover multi-storey car parking is attached to the hotel building and is free for hotel guests for the first 24hrs. We would happily stay here again. It is a great hotel at a very reasonable price!
Set in Yamagata, 5.6 mi from Lina World, Yamagata Grand Hotel offers accommodations with a bar. With free WiFi, this 3-star hotel offers a 24-hour front desk. The restaurant serves European cuisine. The most efficient check in maybe I ever had at a hotel. Staff trusted me to pay at the end of my visit, which used to be the norm in Japan but has mostly disappeared due to an increase in bad tourists.

A place with so many fruit farms and produced delicious fruits throughout the season. It's recommended that you drive as places of interest are pretty far. Awesome place to visit when you want to get away from the city crowd to take awesome landscaping pictures with the Autumn. Cherry blossom season is also a good time to come. Try the fresh seafood, Yamagata-gyu, cold soba.
Loved cycling along the rice fields just outside the city, as it is very peaceful and picturesque with the mountains in the background. It is also easy to cycle in the city as the pavements for cyclists and pedestrians are wide. Drivers are very polite and courteous and it is very safe to cycle there. It's a place to chill out as nothing much happens unlike the busy and noisy cities such as as Tokyo and Osaka. It is also easy to get to tourist sites like Yamadera, Okama Crater and other areas (preferably in good weather).

The hotel is connected to JR Yamagata station. It was snowing most of the time we stayed there, hence the perfect location if coming here in winter, I guess. There are a small combini (Newdays)and a supermarket downstairs through the connecting door. When getting off the bus outside, you can just walk through MatsuKiyo, then continue a few more steps and you reach inside the hotel in no time. We booked the quadruple room, so we got a large room with plenty of space for re-organising our luggages. The wi-fi worked well, too.

Magnificent! We only stayed for 2 nights but wish it was longer. Warm room, comfy western style beds. I had never skied before and was able to organise a private lesson through the hotel and as well as gear hire. Hire was CHEAP compared to everywhere else I'd seen! Highly recommend if you're a skier and a relaxing place to stay if you're not.

It is very close to the JR station. Overall room is very good. Staff is very attentive. My husband lost his camera in Sendai and told the police that we are staying at this hotel for the following nights. 3 days later after we left Yamagata, Richmond emailed us that the police find our camera. Really thanks them for reaching out to us!

The hotel was in a decent location in terms of convenience, about a 15-20 minute walk to Yamagata Station. There is a Lawson next door for quick snacks and whatnot. Plenty of places to eat nearby if you’re feeling adventurous.

The staff were kind, welcoming and let us check-in 2 hours early even though we only asked if we could drop our luggage. The breakfast was great and authentic Japanese home cooking.

The live music at the cafe on Saturday was a nice surprise - a mix of jazz piano and singing and old American songs - the Japanese love The Carpenters.
