Great hotel near the Yamagata Station, about 5 minutes walk. The room was quite spacious and clean. It was easy to comunicate with the staff as they spoke perfect English. For breakfast we had to choose Western style set or Japanese style. We liked everything about our stay. Highly recommend!

Very very good location. Restaurants, ski school, ski rents, ski slopes are just around the corner. Rooms are clean, the bathroom are superb. Even though there are no elevators, the staffs are helpfull to bring our luggage upstairs.

Real comfortable vintage yet classic hotel. It's basically located in the heart of Yamagata city which you can get access to almost anything you want such as groceries supermarket, Izakaya, food chain, AEON mall and etc. great deal and value for money to stay in the hotel.

I had a wonderful stay at Hotel Metropolitan Yamagata!

I had a wonderful stay at Hotel Metropolitan Yamagata! The location is absolutely perfect—conveniently connected to the station, making it easy to explore the city and surrounding areas. The hotel itself is modern, clean, and well-maintained, providing a comfortable and relaxing experience. The staff were very welcoming and attentive, always ready to assist with a smile. While their hospitality was excellent, I did find that a bit more fluency in English communication would enhance the experience for international guests. That being said, their warmth and willingness to help more than made up for any language barriers. Overall, I truly enjoyed my stay and would definitely recommend Hotel Metropolitan Yamagata to anyone visiting the area. Looking forward to staying here again in the future!

Yamagata is a beautiful city.

Yamagata is a beautiful city. It was also our base for visiting other places. We went to Yamadera, Ginza Onsen and Zao Onsen by train and bus, from the Yamagata station. Had Ramen, which was reasonable in value

The Yamagata Ski area (Zao Onsen) is fantastic.

The Yamagata Ski area (Zao Onsen) is fantastic. It wasnt crowded, lessons for kids and adults were AUD$55 for 4 hours, lifts were @4$ per lift. Gear hire was AUD$65 for 2 days PP. In Australia lift passes are $250 per day alone. The hotel Sailor Hutte was literally at the base of the ski lifts. Food was cheap ($10-14 per meal) booze was cheap ($3.50 for a beer). The guys at the Hotel Sailor Hutte were great, make an effort to chat with them via your translator app. Its worth it. One more thing, I would recommend buying Shinkansen tickets directly from JR East rail online. Heaps cheaper than buying a seven day pass unless you are planning to spend 7 days on the train. FYI there are 3 Shinkansen companies East, Central and West. They have there own websites a bit clunky in English but it works. Good luck.

Yamagata is a beautiful mountainous prefecture.

Yamagata is a beautiful mountainous prefecture. There are many places to visit and things to do. We rented a car and I believe this is a must if you want to sight see and time is an issue for you. By car from Yamagata train station, Zao Onsen is about 40-50 minutes away, Ginzan Onsen an hour, Yamadera about 20-30 mins. If you are into photography, there are many great landscape photos you can take here.

hidden gem for sure!

hidden gem for sure! its a lovely small town that has everything. make sure to rent a car and drive around the city and the outskirt as well. ginza onsen & zao onsen is definitely a must visit place when going to yamagata.

The room was large and a nice older Japanese style (which we like). The room was warm and it had a lovely view of the mountain and street below. The staff were super friendly and very helpful. They spoke English well which was very handy when it came time for us to leave and have our snow boards on delivered to the airport. We had a fabulous dinner at the hotels restaurant. It was a great place to stay for the 2 nights we were there.

We have travelled widely for 45 yrs and stayed in some of the best and worst hotels. From the least expensive to the expensive. The Metropolitan Yamagata is one of the best and one of the most affordable. Everything one would normally require of a most comfortable and happy stay, you will find here. For the price you pay, you can’t get this standard anywhere else in the world. Highly recommend!

Great hotel in Yamagata about 10 min walk from the train station and just off the main drag. Great location with a supermarket and small shopping centre next door. Great hotel as a base for adventures in the Yamagata region. Breakfast package is mostly Japanese style and amazingly tasty. The staff were very welcoming and helpful even though we cannot speak Japanese.

The room was excellent and comfortable, as with the other Roynet hotels in different places. The staff was very kind and professional. As a member of this hotel chain, I enjoyed my stay in Yamagata. This hotel is just in front of the Shinkansen station, so you can easily access the Shinkansen.
