Located within 8 km of Miyagi Zao Fox Village and 8 km of Shiroishi-Zao Station, Mogamiya Ryokan provides rooms in Shiroishi. Suzukiya Ryokan offers accommodation in Shiroishi. Free shuttle from/to JR Shiroishi Station or Shiroishi Zao Station is available upon request. All rooms have a flat-screen TV. The staff was very helpful and welcoming. The dinner and breakfast were delicious. The onsen and the whole stay were incredibly relaxing and the best stay in our trip. We could use a shuttle to visit sites around the hotel and our room was a nice calm kingdom for ourselves. The only regret we have is that we forgot take a picture of the lovely couple that runs the hotel.
Tokinenoyado Yunushiichijoh is situated in the Kamasaki Onsen district in Shiroishi, a 15-minute drive from Shiroishi Station and Shiroishi-Zao Station. Guests can enjoy the on-site restaurant. The standard of service was excellent. Our arrival was delayed and we missed the free shuttle bus from the station to the hotel but the VP of the hotel was waiting for us when our train finally arrived at Shiroishi even though we had told them we were willing to catch a taxi. This attention to detail continued throughout our stay. We received excellent care from our personal 'butler' Shiori who was always ready to assist us (in English as we do not speak any Japanese) and never intrusive. I highly recommend trying the hotel onsen and sampling the outstanding traditional Japanese 12 course meal (kaiseki) whilst you are here. If you are intending to visit Zao Fox Village (10 minutes by taxi from the hotel) this is an ideal base.
This is a gorgeous area, most famous in winter but wonderful in spring! We spent a lot of time riding around on a motorcycle, and the roads in Zao are great for that. The Zao Echoline is a gorgeous ride, from the different vistas of mountains, valleys etc (you can see all the way to Sendai and the ocean once you get high enough). There were still walls of snow on either side when we got up high enough. The Okama Crater is not to be missed, but it definitely gets cold and windy up there! Because a lot of the local resorts and ryokan serve dinner, many restaurants close quite early: 6pm, even. We found one noodle and donburi place that was open late, and there are a few izakaya (Japanese bars) with food in the town of Togatta Onsen as well. If you're staying in or near the Pension Mura, the Kotori House (Bird House/Nature Center) is a hidden gem, especially if you're coming with kids. There are tons of exhibits about local wildlife and several craft stations.
We loved the trail up the mountain behind the little town. The people were very friendly and ready to please. The small restaurants were wonderful.......and we even stopped in a tiny hair salon and had the best haircuts ever! It is very easy to walk around the town and explore the shops. The onsens are so amazing. You feel very relaxed and rejuvenated after being in that magical water.
The location is the most impressive. You can see and walk along a river with small waterfall by walking 1 min from hotel. and they have outdoor onzen that you can hear the voice of river while onzen. There are a lot of great restaurant out there.
