Great location, just 5 minutes walking from the main JR Station. Cool hotel, just new and with a modern design. Comfy bed and room. Great hair dryer and iron. Offers cold water just outside of your room. Recommendation: Visit the big 100 mtrs Budda (Sendai Dai Kannon), many people skipped it not knowing about it, really cool.

We spent two days in Sendai which is just right to visit the city and surround city of Matsushima. But if you want to travel to other Tohoku cities, Sendai would be an excellent “hub” to use for a starting point for day trips.

Sendai is an amazing city. It is very metropolitan and busy. Amazing food and drink choices. It is a transit hub and easy to get to amazing cultural spots given the location of the central sendai station.

This hotel is great!

This hotel is great! I am Hilton lifetime Diamond and a Marriott lifetime Titanium Platinum. I stayed here since the Westin was a little down the road and I wanted to be close to the Sendai Station. With over 3000 hotel nights during my travels, this is one I go back to everytime I'm in town!

Sendai held a special place in my heart as the epicenter of the 3/11 East Japan Quake. We traveled this area extensively for a week revisiting the sites that I did some relief work in 2011. The city and surrounding areas around Ishinomaki had been rebuilt and it brought be great joy to see the resilience of the people to fight through very challenging circumstances. Whether it’s a trip to Yamadera Temple in the Mountains, a visit to the Oshima Shrine at Mastushima Bay, a walk through the covered shopping center near Sendai station, you are sure to enjoy your experience at Sendai.

There are plenty of attractions and gourmet food in the city, but less crowded compared to Kanto or Kansai. With the Sendai Maguroto pass, the transportation in Sendai and surounding area, such as Yamadera, Matsushima, Shiraishi, and Akiu, is very convenient for me.

The city of Sendai is charming, easy to navigate (with two major subway lines, going (a) east and west, and (b) north and south-- the fare is usually under US $2.00; as well as the extensive bus lines--each bus ride costs about 200 yen--less than one US dollar), and relatively compact in size. It is not only known for its history, good museums and universities, but for its proximity to Matsushima and Shiogama (that would make an excellent day trip). The city of Sendai has plenty of parks near the city center (all within the walking distance, or a short bus ride), and some of the major boulevards are covered with magnificent trees. You must find out (from your friends or the hotel desk) where to go and dine, as Sendai is known for its abundant blessings of nature, both of the sea and the land, which translates into fresh sea food and nourishing vegetables and delicious meat. My advice, if you want to make a memorable visit to Sendai: make sure to select a very comfortable hotel (and not a business hotel). It will make a qualitative difference to your experience of the city. Also, excellent are the good hot-springs spas nearby, such as Akiu and Sakunami. Some of the major "onsen hotels" run their free shuttle service from Sendai Station. To really appreciate Sendai, you need to talk to the ordinary shop keepers and street sellers, as they retain the warm spirit of old Sendai, not the new "supersized chain-store mentality." Once you find the niche, you will expand your sense of exploration .... into the heart of the city and the entire North Eastern part of Japan.

The staff wax the friendliest of all the hotels we have stayed in Japan.. We had two twin rooms. The rooms were large with wide beds and lots of storage space. Everything was clean and tidy. The interior was as if time had frozen in 1980s. It took a moment to get used to. The amazing thing was that all the electronics still worked. It was an interesting stay - especially for the kids born this century. I would not mind staying there again if I ever visited Sendai again.

I manage to find this hotel by process of elimination. All other hotels around Sendai Kokusai hotel have hugh signboards of the names of their hotels and when i saw this non descript hotel, i suspected this must be Sendai Kokusai Hotel. Thankfully, staffs in this hotel are very helpful. Room size is also spacious.
