Visions of Sokcho: where the mountains meet the sea. Sokcho-si is a beautiful coastal city located in the northeast of the Gangwon-Do province of South Korea. The city is famous for its history, culture, national parks, natural beauty, and local cuisine. The city is a popular gateway to the famous Seoraksan National Park. Unfortunately it was raining and we couldn't hike Seoraksan, but we were able to stroll around the city.
Seoraksan National Park was nearby & have great hiking trails. Lotsa of attractions & attractions in the city. Plentiful seafood available. There’s also chicken Dalai which is stir fried chicken with assortment. Stayed for 2 nites. Maybe should have an additional nite to explore more 😀 I drove but you can walk around.
The best part of Sokcho is my stay in The Hotel Blue Terra, and i also enjoyed the walks on the beach and seeing the fireworks; the visit to Sokcho Seafood Market is another Highlight during my trip! Overall, Sokcho is a very nice place that is worth to visit!
Overall I would not visit Sokcho again. The beach is not really good, the transportation is not the best (if you have a car it's better) and if you go in the city it looks deserted and kind of scary. We could not find any good restaurants outside the beach area (if you are not a seafood fan, it's even harder). On Sunday almost everything in the city was closed so it was really like a ghost town. Furthermore accomodations for staying in a place like Sokcho are EXTREMELY overpriced!!! I would say the only good thing I enjoyed in Sokcho was Seoraksan and the Sineungsa temple. We also took the cable car to the top of the mountain but the amount of people there was UNBELIEVABLE. Everyone was pushing, the line for the way back was huge, and there was no explanation what so ever of what you can actually do when you get to the top. I could not enjoy it and got anxiety due to the many people. If you don't necessarily want to go to the mountain I would chose another beach location.
Sokcho is the centre of the Northeast coast of South Korea. We visited the DMZ Museum, Seoraksan National Park, several beaches including 명파해변 Myeongpa Beach which is the northern-most beach and has been opened for swimming, and Haslla Art World and the Reunification Park in Gangneung. The air was much cleaner than the west coast and there were plenty of places to walk and enjoy the outdoors. The Russian Snow Crab was in season and delicious. We were looking for a place to get away from the bustle of the city and enjoy some quiet time in nature. Sokcho provided this.
We LOVED our recent trip to Sokcho!! The mountains were gorgeous, the ocean was AMAZING. We liked it so much we stayed an extra night! The water was so clear, the sand was soft, the city was easy to navigate, and the waves were so nice to listen to. Already looking forward to going back!!
Location of the hotel is so amazing! The hotel has ocean views and mountain views. We had a double room with partial ocean view on 17th floor. The room was perfectly clean, well-equipped with comfy bed, and all the necessary features. The view was so pictorial! Sokcho beach is in 10 minutes driving. Lots of restaurants are located nearby. Food market is in a walking distance. The hotel rooftop is a great photozone - we spend more than one hour taking pictures of the sunset beyond the mountains. It's a perfect place for vacation!
Sokcho
The Hostel is well located and surrounded by main touristic places. The bus for Seoraksan National Park is just 2 blocks away from the Hostel. As for the room, it's very comfortable and we'll equiped to make you feel at home. It's very quiet so you can sleep easily The manager James is very kind and will help you finding best places to visit Sokcho. I would definitely recommend this place for any person who want to spend time in one of the beautiful city of South Korea ! :)
The host was really nice, super helpful, and friendly - he picked us up from the bus terminal, gave us a list of various restaurants and how to get there, and also a map of the main Sokcho attractions. He also brought breakfast to our room every morning :) and we could take free water and tea from the office. The location was great since it was not far from Seoraksan and had bus stops nearby. The room was very spacious, well heated, and with a really comfy bed.
The location is right on the beach, so if you are interested in walking on the beach this is a great option. It is also a 15 minute drive to Naksansa temple. Our hotel room was as-advertised and clean. We could hear louder guests, but ultimately the room was solid. I would note that if you book an "apartment," this is considered to be separate from the hotel, meaning you cannot use the pool, gym, and other amenities.
Sokcho
Simple but nice breakfast for just a bit of extra money even if it was not included at the reservation. Great location for those willing to explore / hike Seoraksan National Park without queuing up by car at the entrance (very close to the facility). On the other hand definitely would advise to have a car if want to spend time in Sokcho or at the beaches. Kind and friendly staff with good English communication
Sokcho
The couple that runs The Blue Door are the nicest, most hospitable pair. Good English is spoken. Very kind and accommodating. Their dog Barry, a very friendly black lab, is an extra attraction. The location near the beach and near the Sokcho boardwalk is great. My single room was big enough for one person and very clean and comfortable.
Sokcho
Probably the best place we stayed in Korea. On the one hand the hotel is very clean, very cute and very close to Seoraksan Park, by foot or by bus. But most importantly, the hosts Ted and his mum are absolutely amazing. They are exceptionally kind. We had a great time with them and we recommend this place 10000%!
It was in great proximity to the bus terminal and also on the bus route for seoraksan National Park, which was very handy. The beach and restaurants are within a short walk. The basement games area was a pleasant surprise, with a coffee machine and water purifier.
Sokcho
My best place to stay in Korea, the bed is very clean. I met a hostess very friendly, the location’s close to the center, easy to go to the market. I will comback Sokcho ❤️
Sokcho
Location and the staff are friendly. The room and the hotel are clean . I highly recommend this hotel
Sokcho
Location was convenient to Seoraksan National Park, Bus terminal, Beach, and downtown Sokcho.
Location - ok, but first visit to Sokcho, therefore hard to say. Hotel was excellent value.
An ok hotel, although it is 4stars, was less wow than simpler b&b
