We stayed for 2 nights on our way to Ella. On arrival we were upgraded to the Royal Pavillion which was brilliant. We had really nice size rooms with a fantastic view over Kandy. It is situated just a few minutes walk from Kandy lake and the walk was a little steep, but very short and perfectly manageable, otherwise there are plenty of tuktuks. The breakfast was a buffet style and there was plenty of choice. We ate here in the evening and there was a choice of buffet or a la carte. The attendant at the pool was so polite and helpful, as were all the staff in the hotel. They arranged for tuktuks on our departure to the station, which was a short drive away. Nothing was too much trouble.

Kandy is a busy city but has many interesting features making for a day or two stay. The highlight for us was the Botanical Garden as we prefer nature to city life. The historic part of the city and visiting the Buddhist temple was also very interesting. The city has an abundance of frenetic traffic and the fumes make it annoying to walk around too much, but for a day or two to take in the sites it’s tolerable.

Kandy is a culturally rich city in Sri Lanka's central highlands, renowned for the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, a key Buddhist pilgrimage site. It offers scenic beauty with Kandy Lake and the nearby Peradeniya Botanical Gardens. The city is known for the Esala Perahera festival, vibrant markets, and historic sites like the Royal Palace. While it has modern amenities and cooler weather, Kandy can experience traffic congestion and urban crowding. Overall, it’s a must visit for its blend of tradition, nature, and history.

We stayed for 1 night.
We stayed for 1 night. We liked the royal botanical gardens but I would skip everything else including the temple. I was horrified by the treatment of the elephants in our whole 3 weeks in Sri Lanka we only saw one other elephant chained up but in Kandy they were all over especially in the temple complex. It was horrible to see the keepers hitting them with sticks and the elephants in so much distress that they were just swaying back and forth! We were in Kandy at the time of the Kandy festival and I was so sad again to see these wonderful animals paraded around loud streets with loud bangs no wonder they run away sometimes and end up hurting people! I definitely wouldn’t recommend!

The Elsa Perahera was amazing to watch.
The Elsa Perahera was amazing to watch. The city was very busy but had a wonderful atmosphere.
The temple of the tooth and all the elephants were wonderful too. A hectic and relaxing stay.
Loads of delicious bakeries, coffee shops and sweet shops to tempt you in and had some great food.
Very compact centre with interesting shops. The market was a great experience too but everyone wants to show you their goods.

Kandy Hill staion very closely resembles the many Hill Stations in India. It is very Calm and Peaceful with a very pleasant weather. The Climate Changes very quickly. It is a Place where you can just come and relax and in the evening have a stroll around the Kandy Lake. People going to Srilanka should have a stay of atleast 1 Night in Kandy.
Best location i have stayed yet in Sri Lanka. This pearl has everything you need. The bed is great, the shower is gorgeous and the personel is the best i’ve seen yet. They will help you with literally anything you need and wil accomodate it for you. If something on the menu is not like your taste, they can change it to your own liking. They have a beautiful big tent on the outside of the hotel, which has a bathtub, AC and literally everything you need. There are no downsides i could mention.
Like i have said…. The best location in Kandy
Outstanding views over Kandy from my suite, extremely welcoming staff and delicious food. Thank you to Ajith W. and the team there for an amazing stay, always willing to understand the customer needs and making sure they can provide the best service at the hotel. I had the pleasure to meet the chef for a cooking experience, really worth trying! I also got a list of ingredients to be able to cook the most delicious sri lankan curry! I can not wait to go back again. Thank you
This is a cosy, charming & friendly place in the hill capital Kandy. Just a short drive from the city centre, it's nested on one side of overlooking the Hanthana mountains range We loved staying in the Grand Hills hotel. Perfect place to relax and enjoy the stunning view at the mountains. Nice pool. Good wifi, breakfast & dinner delicious. beautiful Garden. Excellent service. bedroom, bathroom private balcony spotless clean. Definitely our best stay in Sri Lanka.
Honestly the best hotel we‘ve stayed at during our 2 week sri lanka travels. The host was super nice and very helpful - he gave us tips on what to explore during the day & told us which prices to expect for certain tuktuk rides so we would not get ripped off.
The whole accommodation is very very clean and tidy and the room itself was much more spacious than we anticipated. Both the room and bathroom offer a spectacular view over Kandy.
If looking for some comfort while in Kandy this is the place, nice hotel very friendly staff good breakfast, the walk down to the town is about 15 minutes, my advise, take a tuktuk back up😀 a exellent basis to explore the area
