Located 500 metres above sea level, Cinnamon Citadel Kandy offers a spectacular outdoor pool. beautiful location alongside sri lanka's longest river. a little far from City centre , but the best location. The Staff again like all cinnamon properties were really trained . and were taking care of the guests with minute details. The rooms were very big , with a balcony facing the garden. The resort has excellent flora and fauna and its a great place if you love nature photography. The food at the buffet was great , the spread was very big. I really enjoyed the Sri Lanka Arrack (Made from Coconut) , again as we had very less time here could not enjoy more time. if we come again we will stay at least 3-4 days here.

This was one of my best stays in Sri Lanka - I really loved it. The hotel is a true oasis of peace and calm and good taste right in the middle of the city, and only a 5-minute walk to the station. The hotel is built around a central courtyard and the rooms give onto the back, far away from the hustle and bustle of the Main Street below. To top it all, the little pool on the roof is a sheer delight after a day seeing the sights. This is a place I would definitely come back to! Enjoy...!

Some of the best hotels in Kandy near Kandy Lake include Mount Haven, Windy Ridge Kandy and Villa Rosa.
Must visit: Temple of the Tooth - make sure you're there for the ceremony; Kandy Dancers; walk around the lake; take a stroll along Colombo street for more street life feeling, visit the market. For tickets to see the Kandy Dancers, if you're not travelling in group, do not count on having front row seats as larger groups will have made reservations for them. Try to talk to one of the sales men in front of the centre, play innocent and ask him to show you how to get tickets and better seats. Visiting the shrine in the Temple of the Tooth is quite disappointing as there is a large crowd and you'll only get a glimpse of it if you're lucky. But the temple in whole is a monument worth visiting. Visit Pinnawala - 1,5h drive with tuk tuk from the hotel. Get there by 10am and if you want to see feeding time count to be leaving Pinnawala at around 1h30pm. Can be combined with a visit to the Botanical Gardens. Have breakfast, lunch or dinner at Cafe Arom Inn: it is almost similar to what you will find in other European capitals if you're tired of Sri Lankan food.
Easy to get around by tuk-tuk. Good to stroll around town with nice walk around lake (next to road on one side). Temple of the tooth was very impressive. Go at time of Puja to join crowds filing past relic chamber with offerings. Memorable experience to be part of. Remember appropriate dress. Also lots of other things to see in the complex. Visit to Botanical gardens very good to see tropical trees etc in natural enviroment. Imagine Eden Project domes and Kew Garden glass houses but outside and bigger than all of Kew. Have tea in the Mlesna tea shop just down from the shopping centre.
ON CHRISTMAS DAY WE WERE IN KANDY. PEOPLE ARE MORE HOSPITABLE AND TOURIST FRIENDLY. BEING SUPER PEAK SEASON EVERYTHING WAS VERY VERY EXPENSIVE. BE IT A DRIVE AROUND THE LAKE, DETAILED VISIT OF BUDDHA TOOTH RELIC, EATING JOINTS, MARKET PLACE EVERY THING IS WORTH MENTION. MINIMUM OF 2 TO 4 DAYS STAY IS PREFERRED. 3 DAYS IS OPTIMUM. ACCOMMODATION AVAILABLE IN PLENTY BUT AT HIGH COST DUE TO LAST MINUTE BOOKING AND SUPER PEAK HOLIDAY SEASON.
Royal Botanic Garden is my fave place to go... We eat at fastfood restaurants (KFC, McDonalds and Burger King) because some restos their food are all spicy even if they say its just a small spice!! I hope they can cater to guests who has gastric problems.. Yep its easy to get around as long as you have a local with you just to prevent you from being duped especially tuktuks..go with the metered tuktuks!! Travelling to go to a place at night is a big NO NO! If you would go back to the city, better take a bus..
If you want to see the temple of the tooth it's worth a visit. We were last in Kandy 22 years ago, we loved it. Today the City is overrun with tuk tuks, buses and trucks that just about poison your lungs. We were there just two days and couldn't wait to leave. We decided to visit the Botanical Garden which is beautiful and peaceful but to get there in a tuk tuk is a choking nightmare. Take a taxi with air con.The lake walk in Kandy is more peaceful on the temple side but the roadside of the lake is also traffic clogged.
The Temple of the Tooth is an utterly extraordinary experience. My advice is avoid the tourist cafes (the Empire was just HIDEOUS) and go for local food at a local joint. Kandy is just magic. I would go back in a heartbeat. Traffic is horrendous but it's kind of part of the charm. Forget being in a hurry and just take it all in.
The management and staff were very nice and cooperative. Particular kudos goes to the front desk manager and the guest relations manager who were very understanding of our needs and were very attentive. The breakfast buffet was excellent as was the dinner buffet. The swim pool was lovely as well. This is a very nice facility but I would recommend staying in old part of the hotel rather than the newer wing as you have to walk across a long bridge back and forth to go in and out Anita W
Front desk and staff very polite, friendly and helpful. It is old hotel but maintained very well. It is old charm and nostalgia. Wooden floor, stairway details, old style furniture in room and old style elevator, where you have to open and close two collapsible screen door to operate. Excellent dinning room. We loved the food at the restaurant. The chef, Mr. Pathmasiri, was extremely nice and talented. My son, whom wants to be a chef, really appreciated him coming to speak with us. Great service!
The staff were great. The buffet dinner was tasty and very reasonably priced. We got to try out lots of different things. The pool and the pool bar are lovely.
