Located in Sigiriya, an 11-minute walk from Pidurangala Rock, Elephant Trio Sigiriya provides accommodations with a garden, free WiFi, a 24-hour front desk, and room service. Prasanna was a fantastic host. Nothing was too much effort and he was always available to take us somewhere on his tuk tuk for a good price. He also loves to talk about the local birds and wildlife, which is right up our street. The location is amazing. Very near Pidurangala, so perfect for that early morning sunrise walk up. Also great for walking around and soaking up the amazing nature that's all about. The birdlife from the balcony of the Elephant Trio is amazing. We could have sat there all day. Prasanna's mum's cooking was also really good. We ate a fantastic dinner and a fantastic breakfast, both of which included fresh, healthy, and local products.
Set amid a natural landscape, Back of Beyond – Pidurangala offers a peaceful getaway in Sigiriya. We spent four fantastic days in this amazing property in the middle of a forest, using this as a base for exploring Sigiriya, Polunnaruwa and Dambulla as day trips. We booked one of the treehouses and it was a magical experience for us to sleep in a room with no walls surrounded by trees and wild (harmless) animals! The treehouse is very tastefully constructed, with perfectly fine facilities. The location is great too. It is a ten-minute walk to the Pidurangala rock, which, if you're fit to climb it, offers fantastic 360-degree view of the entire region. It was a breathtaking experience, and you must attempt a climb. The area also houses several ancient ruins of Buddhist monasteries, and these places—being empty of tourists—are very atmospheric. From our treehouse we spotted several wild monkeys, birds and a couple of frolicking giant squirrels (Sri Lanka's national animal)! We had breakfast and dinner at the property—since there is no other place nearby—and the food was quite good, although the portions were far too generous, and we felt we ended up wasting a lot of food! There was a sufficiently good variety of food on offer, especially considering the the location seriously is 'back of beyond'. The manager Thusitha, who's been working here for 11 years, was extremely helpful with everything we asked for. He gave us a very good idea of the area and its history, and he also took us on a late-night walk in the forest to look for slender lorises. Unfortunately we did not spot any that night, and Thusitha offered to take us again the next night (although we were too tired from our day trip and decided not to do the walk). He also arranged a forest safari for us at short notice, and we saw up close a large number of wild elephants and several other animals and birds. This safari is also highly recommended. It was a truly memorable experience staying here. If you're fond of nature, this place is for you!
Set amid a tropical landscape, The Thick Forest features traditional bungalows that overlook Sigiriya‘s Rock Fortress. This is a very authentic experience. We were greeted with warm hospitality, an extremely clean room with a beautiful view, incredible food that we didn’t realize came with our stay... There are amazing views of Siguriya and also of the jungle. Our caretaker even carried our luggage up to the platform. Once he discovered my daughter’s love of photography he offered to take us to a nearby, but remote lake, to catch the morning reflection of Siguriya (which turned out to be a mini safari amongst itself... and came with the most magical pictures as well). Finally, it is located minutes from Siguriya, the village, and Minneriya (where we saw hundreds of elephants for The Gathering). It’s not fancy... But we were not looking for 5 star accommodations, we were looking for safe, clean, and great views... but came away with a lifetime of memories. We will definitely stay here on our next return.
