I feel that Meknes is generally under rated in the tourist destinations. It is really beautiful and there are many places to visit for example The premier art and cultural exhibition in Meknes is worth visiting, Meknes Medina, Bab Mansour Gate, Bou Inaniya Medrasa, Bab al-Khamis Gate etc.

An underrated jewel.
An underrated jewel. People often skip Meknes in favour of Fez but i found it more authentic with far less hustle. The people are simply unfailingly helpful and charming. And there are many sights to see, including Volubilis which is mind-blowing

Meknes is more traditional & laid back than Fes.
Meknes is more traditional & laid back than Fes. The business people are less aggressive in trying to sell you something & it was easy to navigate around the city. Plenty of interesting architecture, Médina gates and nice places to eat.

Interesting medina, market and main square.
Interesting medina, market and main square. Short (free) visit to mausoleum is main event, otherwise not a lot to do. Probably 1 day/night is sufficient. Use as a base for half day visit to Volubolis. Limited decent restaurants , most are in Riads. A restaurant with a terrace with nice views exists on inside of gateway near main gate

Very authentic city but lacking nice restaurants that felt clean. In the newer area there was a great place called Le Stream.
Favorite places were the music museum and mausoleum.
Petit Taxis were reasonably priced and made getting around the city inexpensive and easy.

Don't believe the online videos or guidebooks that say that...
Don't believe the online videos or guidebooks that say that the whole of Meknes is a building site! While there is a lot of renovation going on, there are still marvelous things to see and do. The medina is very interesting and comes with very little hassling. Its worth taking a day trip - or longer - to the mid Atlas mountains.

Loved staying in this unique building. What a beautiful place and it really made me appreciate my stay in Morocco. Full of character but also modern aids like a hot strong shower and a heater in room.
Helpful ladies who fixed me up with a guide for a day in Fes and gave me advice re trains etc.
I had dinner in one night, three courses for 180 dirham. Slightly dearer than what I’ve been paying but this was a tasty home cooked meal and worth it.
Good location in a very interesting city.

Beautiful old riad with one of the best rooms we’ve stayed in during our Morocco trip - for a ridiculously cheap price. Staff lovely. Excellent breakfast (hot pastries!) on a balcony overlooking the medina. Just perfect.

Everything was wery great. They are very nice, kind and helpful. The place was really clean. Besides I would like to point out that we had in Bab Berdaine Ryad the best dinner during our trip in Morocco!

The room was the biggest and comfiest we have had in Morocco. The bed was lovely. We loved the rooftop terrace and watched the storks and then the sun go down.
