Staying at Riad Jnane Fes Medina & Luxury Palace was one of the highlights of my trip to fez. The riad itself is stunning , a perfect blend of traditional Moroccan charm and modern comfort. But what made the stay truly special was the staff. Kenza welcomed us with the warmest smile and made me feel at home immediatly. Mostapha was equally wonderful --always attentive , and ready to help with anything i needed ,from directions to recommandations. Thanks to them, my time in fez felt effortless and memorable. The Riad was all and more than we expected. The decor is amazing. The beds were comfortable and the rooms well appointed with appropriate bedding and towels. The staff were also extremely friendly and helpful. The location is perfect as it’s in the old part of town with no traffic except for bicycles and motorcycles which we learned quickly to avoid. An easy walk either way took us to different parts of the town. Even the neighbours were very friendly and chatted with us whenever we went out. The wee shop opposite is very handy too. The lady was great even though we had difficulty with the language. It’s not a quiet area through the day but we were never disturbed at night. Breakfast was amazing and delicious every day. Dinner also met our expectations.

Commonly spelled Fez, this city was Morocco’s capital during Middle Ages. The city was originally composed of two separate settlements located along the banks of the Jawhar River. Madinat Fas was founded in 789 by Idris I, while Al-'Aliya was founded by his son Idris II. Both towns grew autonomously until the Almoravids unified them in 1070 under the name ‘Fas’. We had been good we'd get lost in Fes but apart from the...

We had been good we'd get lost in Fes but apart from the area around the tanneries we found it quite easy to find our way around. The people in Fes were very welcoming and helpful and we didn't find the high pressure selling that we've experienced in most places. As well as exploring the medina there are nice parks and walks outside the walls. We stayed for 3 nights and found that just right at this time of year.

Fez is fascinating and felt very safe (more so than London).

Fez is fascinating and felt very safe (more so than London). There is plenty to do for 3 days in and around the Medina. We enjoyed a day's excursion to Meknes and Volubilis too. Lots of good places to eat and people watch. The spectacle of daily life is fun and there are some nice parks and museums if you want to get away from the people and find some space and greenery. Our main issue was poor weather (early January, it was freezing and wet) which reduced options substantially. However, it was a bit warmer than London!

I first visited Fes in 2005 with my wife and returned in 2025 with my wife and 2 kids. Compared to much of the rest of Morocco, Fes has retained much of its charm. The merchants within the medina were less pushy then I remembered them, and our accommodation provided us with an excellent, knowledgeable official guide for a day, which I strongly recommend to get your bearings along with some historical and cultural context.

Fez is definitely a must do while in Morocco. It is a total trip for the senses and the Medina is everything everyone has said about it. Get your bearings by using placeholder outside of the Medina, the main gates as an example and then get lost. The souks are amazing and every street has something worth looking at. - Charge your phone, every day - Google maps worked fine for me but worth having a fall back place, mine was RCIF. - after a while you will get a good feeling about the layout - a photographers dream, although be sensitive and respectful of locals, who do not want their picture taken at all - I found food to be delicious, with exceptional dishes at the clock cafe (also a cooking school) - I arrived in Fez after a Marrakech to Fez trip through the desert, also an excellent experience - I used tourist transport throughout and had no problems getting to where I needed to go on shared transport services - As a solo traveller, I had no problem with Fez and felt very comfortable, although the invitations to view carpets gets a little tiring after a while. Nice carpets but not great for carry-on.

A city that is historically rich and good.

A city that is historically rich and good. The old meddinah is everything in Fes. It's very beautiful. Other than that, there isn't much to do. I recommend staying for 2 days to 3 days most. It's more than enough. The locals are generally friendly. But the taxis are hard to get, especially if you are more than 2 people. They can even scam you and raise the fare. So be careful.

The Medina is the big draw here and one could spend a whole day just wandering amongst the many alleyways and shops taking in the atmosphere, sights and sounds. That said there is a lot of repetitive tourist tat and fruit\meat stalls. I was disappointed by the tannery, not much work going on outside (supposedly now all done inside) though there was hardly any smell. Surprisingly we were not hassled too much by any shop owner and haggling for a lower price was not aggressive. One day is enough in Fes and add another day for a trip out to Volubilis and you're done IMHO. We stayed 3 days in all and this was more than enough.

The location was great--within a short walking distance of the medina. The hosts were very hospitable and made my stay in Fes the best so far of my time in Morocco. The breakfast was very tasty and the room was very comfortable. Also, the atmosphere is very cozy and the whole place is like a Moroccan art house with beautiful woodwork and ceiling edging. You can't go wrong with this place for a stay in Fes.

Wonderful hotel with a very nice pool. The location was just perfect close to the Medina just 10min by taxi, in a very quiet and nice part of Fes. The staff was very kind, the rooms beautiful well equipped and comfortable, the rich breakfast of local and international dishes was very delicious. We recommend the hotel a lot. When we come back to Fes we will definitely stay in Marriott again.

The best part of Fes surprisingly was this hotel. We just loved hanging out on the terrace and watching the scene and the lights and sounds of the city. Sunset from the terrace here is magical. We ate our meals on the terrace. The Moroccan salad has been the best that we had in all of Morocco.
