United KingdomWe have stayed for the whole week and enjoyed every minute. The rooms are very comfortable and clean, the ceilings are high and beds super comfy.
The staff is absolutely lovely and always available. Ladies at reception are so kind and helpful. We will definitely be returning in future.
The sea in front of the hotel in very swimmable and water is clean. We have also enjoyed our walks on the beach.
Veracruz and the resort is a treasure and hope it stays as a little secret 😁

United StatesIt was like having an apartment away from home. Very good area to go out and have a walk. Close by to very nice restaurants and 2 blocks away from the beach front. Bathroom and shower are more updated than others we've stayed at. Room was spacious and great lighting. Beds where not too hard or soft and you definitely didn't feel the springs underneath.
Check in was great... but you do have to be in contact because it is not self check in. Parking is not free and you do need to call ahead to verify how and where you can park.
They do have the courtesy to have basic toiletries available.
All in all it's a great place.

We are going to return to Veracruz for an extended stay when...
We are going to return to Veracruz for an extended stay when it's a little less hot (the 35˚ highs were intense with the humidity). However, we were lucky to be there when it wasn't busy. The port, the historic centre, and the rambling old buildings of the township are a pleasure to walk around, especially at night when a cool breeze came off the water. There is a lot to see if you are interested in history. We didn't get to the beach or aquarium and look forward to that next time. Great shopping for authentic wares in Mercado Hidalgo, and heaps of artisan shops around the port. We enjoyed the generous camarón dishes at Tampico Mariscos.

We stayed one night in the Veracruz City but stayed in the Xalapa (capitol of Veracruz) which you can get to by comfortable bus for $15 U.S. for three nights. Drink Cafe Lencero hot milk poured into expresso from a pot held high, creating the foam. Friday and Saturday nights - local lively music style called Son Jarocho to be seen , with local dancers, at La Casona de Beaterio near Parque Juarez. We visited small villages called Coatepec(coffee growing and roasting - many tour options), Xico (costumes, masks, restaurant El Meson Xiqueño) and Naolinco (many shops of handmade leather goods -very inexpensive, several excellent restaurants on the plaza). Taxis to each from Xalapa are about 200 pesos., or short trip between Coatepec and Xico.

Honestly not sure why Veracruz makes the guidebooks. The centro is probably only 20% occupied with most of the buildings crumbling, the malecon isn't anything to write home about (and doesn't have much of a street food scene despite suggestions otherwise), and food prices seemed high and I wasn't overly impressed by any of my meals.
I found previous stop Orizaba and (even moreso) subsequent stop Coatepec far more enjoyable and worthwhile and if I could do it over again I'd skip Veracruz and spend more time in Coatepec and the other small towns around Xalapa in Mexico's zona cafetera, which is one of the prettiest areas I've been in Mexico and did have some great food that lived up to the reputation of Veracruz state on that front.

Veracruz is a beautiful city combining a blend of beautiful beaches and boardwalk and the older central historic section is wonderful. Restaurants are plentiful and with large variety of fares.
The weather each time I have come is excellent (November/December)!
I'm a meat and potatoes man so I eat in more roadhouses/wing joints, etc. I have eaten in Italian restaurant in historic district. Excellent.
Taxis are very cheap! a big plus...
I enjoy walking so I take in a lot of the city.

The city of Veracruz is has a very small historic centre which was under major renovation when we were there. Weather is very hot and humid so it is virtually impossible to do anything after mid day until 4:00 pm.

Hotel Mocambo is an old glory which used to cater to the Mexican Jet set in the 1940's and 50's. It's wooden interiors reflect the style of its heydays even if it is now largely abandoned and in urgent need of restoration. We enjoyed exploring the old ballrooms and the vast installations of this Mexican monument.

Very well furnitured inside, but a bit small toilet space.
Fantastic breakfast.
Pool is under renovation.
Hotel is near to city centre. Many restaurants nearby.

This is a nice hotel with generally very good service. Although the food is not to the standard you would hope. However their are good restaurants nearby. The breakfast is good with plenty of options. The service staff are brilliant.
