Having spent a couple beautiful and busy days in Amsterdam, Haarlem was the BEST surprize; stunningly beautiful, clean, easily walkable and very peaceful and just 15 minutes away is the beautiful National park and gorgeous beach. We loved our brief stay in Haarlem and would highly recommend it!

Haarlem is a wonderful city it feels safe & is clean & welcoming. Easily reached by train from Schipol airport which takes you into a large well organised train station that lies just to the North of the main city & its canals. The canals are worth exploring with a guided or self drive tour. A walk out to the former Victorian era round prison is worthwhile it has been converted into work spaces, offices, cinema, restaurant & hotel. The city walls are all gone but there is one gate that has been renovated although it is not open it gives an idea of the scale. The windmill is well worth a visit it is run by enthusiastic & knowledgeable volunteers.

This is a great hub for those not wanting to stay in Amsterdam. You have fast, convenient train access to many cute little towns and larger cities, and there is a lot to see in Haarlem as well. The atmosphere is laid back, many restaurants and cafes with outdoor seating, a wonderful market in the square. Doesn't feel too touristy. Very easy to walk to the sites, and very kid friendly.

I thoroughly enjoyed staying in Haarlem and found it to be one of the highlights of my trip. The area has a warm, welcoming atmosphere, with charming houses lining the pathways, each beautifully maintained with colorful pot plants and decorative touches that made the neighborhood feel incredibly homely.
The weekend markets were a delight to explore, offering freshly baked goods, local treats, and a variety of unique and interesting shops. It was easy to spend hours wandering through the streets and soaking up the friendly local culture.
Haarlem is also rich in history and stunning architecture. The beautiful churches, picturesque canals, and well-preserved historic buildings made sightseeing a pleasure around every corner. The city's character and charm provide a more relaxed experience than the larger tourist destinations.
One of the best aspects of Haarlem is its location. Despite its peaceful atmosphere, it is only a few minutes by train from the bustling center of Amsterdam, making it the perfect base for exploring the region while enjoying a quieter and more authentic Dutch experience.
I would highly recommend Haarlem to anyone visiting the Netherlands who is looking for beautiful scenery, local charm, excellent markets, and easy access to Amsterdam.

We love Haarlem and consider it our home away.
We love Haarlem and consider it our home away. It is getting popular but everyone is still friendly and there are wonderful restaurants, shops, and bike trails. There are lots of cyclists and trail users, most are careful, friendly and helpful but there seem to be increasing fast cyclists more concerned about speed than safety.

Haarlem has everything that you might enjoy in Amsterdam without the hordes of noisy tourists. The old part of the city was enjoyable to walk through; canal ride was nice. Visit the church and the farmers market in the square on S aturdays.

Haarlem is an attractive place ( I knew having visited as a day trip) and so easy to reach from the airport and much better value as well as being less crowded than Amsterdam but still with the attraction of many places in the Netherlands. I used a bus which took 40 minutes and goes regularly from directly outside the airport terminal. Top tip for this hotel get off at the last but one stop before Haarlem station, as it's closer to reach it.

Perfect studio room, very clean (spotless), comfortable, and quiet, with access to the garden. The house is ideally located in Haarlem, close to everything a traveler might need, including cafés, restaurants, grocery stores, and the Frans Hals Museum. The train station is also only about 1 km away, making it an easy walk. Amsterdam is a 15 minutes by train.
Amanda is a lovely host and made the stay even more enjoyable!

Easy to park nearby, and right in the middle of beautiful Haarlem. Surprisingly quiet, about ten or fifteen minutes walk to the station and so easy from there to Amsterdam. Rooms were good, check in was easy, can’t comment on breakfast as we didn’t have it.
