Located a 30-minute drive from Alta city center, between the arctic tundra and the arctic sea you will find Gargia Lodge, surrounded by nature. We had the most magical experience at Gargia Lodge, we were there December 3 till 5, we were picked up at the airport eventhough we arrived after 11 pm, got our room which was comfortable and had a heated floor in the bathroom. The views from here were amazing, breakfast was great, lunch and dinner were amazing, and because it was quiet when we were there our meals were a bit custom made to fit our wants. We did a snowmobile safari, which took us all the way to the Arctic Tundra and got to meet the huskies of Gargia Lodge 😊, this was an amazing experience. Since we had dinner before leaving for our Northern Lights chase adventure and we were leaving early the next day, silvia made us sandwiches and left these in our rooms for when we came back, which is very thoughtful. We left the lodge feeling like family more than anything, thanks to Silvia and Artn. Defenitely recommend this place and will return..

Set in Alta, within 1.6 mi of The Rock art of Alta and 27 mi of Sautso, Nordlys Hotell Alta AS offers accommodations with a shared lounge and free WiFi throughout the property as well as free private... The small and very cosy house is directly situated at Lyngenfjord. We stayed there for 5 days - to short time as we realized later. The house can be used as the starting point for numerous excursions to the nearby breath-taking landscape. As we travelled in winter we had to chance to go for cross-country skiing, to find places with low stray light for observing northern lights at night and for participation in a snow scooter tour up into the mountains. Our landlords always supported us in planning out tours. We liked coming back to the house in the evening and to warm at the open fire place located in the kitchen. In the house we found everything needed to stay there, to cook and to organize living there. We could even pick up fire wood from a hut located close to the house. We would really recommend this house to people who want to live in an exciting landscape for both relaxing and active vacations.

Offering garden views, Bjørnfjell Mountain Lodge in Alta offers accommodations, a restaurant, a bar, a shared lounge, a garden and ski-to-door access. What was on the breakfast table was homemade and delicious! The 3-course dinner was exceptional thanks to a creative chef who uses local products. His humility is striking when put next to an mouthwatering talent. we had dinner the 2 nights we could (first night we arrived too late) and cannot wait to be back for more. I really appreciated the wool slippers provided at the entrance of the main building. It added to the cozy feel of the building, which is so tastefully decorated and placarded with huge windows looking over the snowy landscape. We saw the Northern Lights on our second night from the hotel ground and the owner kindly shared the professional photos they had taken on the Northern Light Bonfire Activity trip that night even though we didn't participate in it. I could have never immortalized The Moment without her photos! ;) It was the third stop on our Norway trip (Trondheim-Tromsø-Alta) and, by far, the best one! The quietness of the place was unmatched... The view from the lodge big bay window was so powerfully relaxing, so white and, a few meters away, a view from the fjord... gorgeous! We want to come back and enjoy the ski slopes that the hotel owner also own and, definitely, this time, spend the whole day dog sledding (an hour and a half is clearly not enough!). ;)

Alta is a nature driven town with lots of outdoor scenery. The acitivities in month of winters can be limited due to museum closures, but you can on a great day see most unbelievable northern lights right here in Alta
We visited the Sorrisniva Ice Hotel and stayed there one night. Wow, what a fantastic place. There was far more to impress us than we could see from the website photos when we booked. The dinner we had in the dining room there was superb. We also did a snowmobile safari with the hotel which was excellent. The 2 hour 35km trip was interesting and really fun. We also have a reindeer drawn sleigh ride and Sami experience which we also really enjoyed. A hot-tub out in the snow was also fun. While in Alta, we also did a dog-sledding ride, which was great fun and quite interesting, learning about the dogs. The weather wasn't conducive to seeing any Northern Lights (overcast and snowy), but we had such a great weekend, that we didn't mind. A good excuse to go to Northern Norway again in the future.
We went husky sledding at Holmen husky. That was amazing! We also went whale watching with nord expedition, didn’t see any whales but he tried so hard for us and the trip was stunning, we went for a few walks that were great, would definitely recommend Alta
Alta is a mellow small town. People is very kind and you have many but unities we’re activities in the nature around the town. There are a couple of restaurant for dinning with delicious food. The Cathedral is amazing As well the museum and the petroglyphs around it.
New Cathedral amazing! Would love to hear the organ sometime. Very good transport links between Alta and the Rock Art Museum. Five stars for the museum facilities and helpfulness of staff. Missed out on trips to areas around through lack of time - must return to do this sometime. Loved the area for its peacefulness, snow on the tops of the mountains all around the water - must return for the northern lights sometime. High recommendation.
Friendly town with spectacular views. Had nice restaurants and many of them. Nice shopping center near the hotel. Traffic was easy to drive with slow pace. I would recommend renting a car and driving 15 minutes west of the city to see nice museum and mountains.
