A beautiful and charming city with friendly people.
A beautiful and charming city with friendly people. The streets are clean, safe, and easy to commute. Arriving at Christchrirch airport is smooth with clear signs to whichever country you are visiting. There are buses, which take you to the city center.
The impression of Christchurch was one of safe fun and charm. However, beware of the trams when you cross the road as they appear quite often.
Recommend The Drifter Hostel. It's close to the bus terminal. The place was very cozy with kind and friendly staff, the check-in staff was so nice and hospitality.

We have enjoyed the Open Christchurch architectural weekend in 2023/24, which is an excellent event. Always find plenty to do in this City and like the fact that it is changing all the time, with post-quake renovations creating a dynamic space. Love being able to take our pick of cafes and restaurants offering flavours from all over the world, and getting around using the excellent bus service. Fabulous City that has the opportunity to get things right with a new start in 21st Century.

A city that is still being repaired and renovated post the earthquakes however it is already vibrant with promise of more to come. Most of the venues are new and competing for your custom.
Surrounding the city are many natural attractions within a couple of hours.

Our stay was to visit a friend and not to sightsee.
Our stay was to visit a friend and not to sightsee. We ate out at restaurants close to our hotel that were recommended by the hotel staff and our friend and were pleased with the food and service at each. They were the Ngon Ngon Cafe at the Golden Hotel on Riccarton Road, Eden Alley, Potichon and Hello Vietnam. Having been at school and University in Christchurch a long time ago we revisited the old site and the Teece Museum, the Art Gallery, the temporary Museum and Cathedral Square. We didn't have time for anything else but would recommend the Botanic Gardens in fine weather.
Use the Metro buses to get around. They are frequent and the drivers are courteous, helpful and keep an eye out for those who may need help.

Christchurch is still recovering from the earthquakes back...
Christchurch is still recovering from the earthquakes back in 2010/2011 and there is much clearing and construction in progress. The town had a quiet atmosphere with many areas with very little foot traffic so there were certainly no crowds. Winter in Christchurch is very much a "go out only if you have to" type of city. While it does have its attractions most are deserted or very quiet due to the inclement weather. Still the people are very friendly and wish to help with advice and directions.

WE didn't have long enough to explore!
WE didn't have long enough to explore! Driving around town in a motorhome was understandably a bit tricky especially with parking - but is doable. Christchurch Botanic Gardens well worth a visit - even in winter!
Coast is just stunning - locals really friendly!
The history of the place was interesting and brought personality to the stay. The code worked well and you could move around the place very independently. It was easy to get to the destination by bus from the airport (bus 3 to Christchurch Hospital and from there bus 7 stops almost in front of the door). The hostel also has many different places to sit and work in peace. A small yard is nice! There is also quite cheap and good take away food places near by. I would definately stay again :)
location of hotel was great - just short walk down Colombo Street and you are in the centre of Christchurch. rooms are a good size and very comfortable - great shower. it was also easy to get a local bus from the airport to the hotel.
staff very helpful at booking taxis for transfers bak to airport ( too early for the bus) and also the station for the transalpine train
Budget hotel near airport - about 20min walk from room to departure lounge....less if you don't have luggage. Half the walk had covered area. If it rains may be a problem.
Good for early morning flights. Countdown and mall was just next door. The mall had good selection of restaurants (Chinese, Mexican, Burger and Cafe) and fast foods (McD, KFC, Subway)
free parking and large room - we had a exec room.
It was very quiet which was surprising for Riccarton Road.
There is a dairy ( corner shop) and thai and chicken places about a minute from the hotel.
Its also near Riccarton Mall and petrol stations and on the airport run.
Brilliant location, just short walk from airport, and then bus stop outside for cheap easy way to get into Christchurch, just remember use travel card or cash, only 4 NZ dollars.
Lovely breakfast, staff super friendly.Thank you for great stay.
