Located in Matamata, The House With No Nails provides accommodations with free WiFi and access to a garden. A continental breakfast is served at the property. Hiking can be enjoyed nearby. The host, Jen, has been really patient to tell us about the history of the House With No Nails. Jen greeted us by the door as we arrived and even hand-wrote a letter detailing the house’s history. The toilets and rooms are well decorated and clean. The towels are freshly laundered and changed. Best thing of all is the million dollar view of the rising and setting sun. It’s a place to go if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life, and a perfect getaway for families with young children.

The space was private, extremely well appointed, very comfortable bed. Rolling Views B&B is a luxury suite, 8 minutes' drive from Hobbiton and Matamata. The private suite has a fully equipped kitchen with breakfast provisions. We were planning to visit Hobbiton and search for a place near Matamata. Rolling view was an excellent choice, it was a nice clean property, fresh air, comfortable and the host also excellent.

Originally built in 1889, the heritage-listed Okoroire Hot Springs Hotel features an onsite hot spring bath, a 9-hole golf course and a tennis court. This place was such a gem! I'm so glad our family stayed here! We got two rooms to accomodate my husband, me, and our three teenage children. One of the rooms had a private outdoor hot tub spa! We did not expect that! The property is beautiful and well maintained. The staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was nice. Our favorite part was spending the morning in the natural hot springs! We were the only people there and it was completely lovey! So peaceful with the sound of the nearby river and the birds in the surrounding trees! It was the best place we stayed on our trip! We spent two nights here.
One of the places we wished to visit was not open on a Tuesday or Wednesday which was when we were there. Throughly enjoyed the Hobbiton experience. Plenty of food options if you were staying in the town area, delivery where we were staying (which was in the radius)was near impossible, we found one, and they only took cheque’s or cash.
Lovely accommodation, we came for a weekend away with family to visit Hobbiton together. This was fantastic exceeded all our expectations of the movie set. Great tour guide too. Matamata is a lovely town with amazing Restaurants to dine at. We were spoilt for choice. We visited the Cheese Factory too which was great. The weather was lovely and sunny for our weekend and enjoyed walking. We felt Matamata needs more family activities to do especially when wet. (Ten Pin bowling, Mini Golf, Movie Theatre..) We did have a great weekend.
Highly recommend this town for a relaxing few days stay. Has a few good cafes (we loved the French one especially!) and the main restaurant is an Italian one which offers a delicious menu! Book as very popular. Good but small range of high street shops including a small Farmers. Shorter Saturday shopping hours to note. There are a couple of Hot springs nearby as part of either a hotel or holiday park. Firth Tower and museum are worth a visit too to see how life was lived in the 1800s. Hobbiton movie set is about 10 -15 minutes but you have to book as very busy. Bookings can be made at the distinctive Hobbit style building - I -site centre. No movie cinema in the town which was surprising so you'd need to go to Tauranga or Hamilton. All in all a tranquil town to visit for a long weekend or a few days. Close to major towns too!
Our whole reason for visiting Matamata was to tour Hobbiton, but the area is lovely, and our bed & breakfast hosts were wonderful. The tour was great, and we enjoyed relaxing in Matamata. They also have good restaurants in town, and lunch at the Dragon Inn at Hobbiton was delicious. I highly recommend this stop.
My husband and I came to New Zealand for our honeymoon with Hobbiton as our main attraction. It did not disappoint. The town was lovely and the ladies at the iSite very helpful. They even allowed us to store our luggage while we were on tour for $5. There were lots of options for food. Due to our time crunch, we went tried and true with Subway which is directly across from the iSite.
Not much to do in Matamata if you don’t have a car. The historic walk around the town was pleasant, but the big attraction is Hobbitton. That was fantastic and there’s is a free bus from the ISite to the set.

One of the best places I’ve ever stayed! Immaculate, well designed room with lots of thoughtful touches (luxury robes, proper coffee, complimentary aperitifs etc). A beautiful location with stunning views. Very convenient for Hobbiton where we were going the next day. Mark and Glenn were extraordinary hosts. Both dinner and breakfast were divine. I would come back to New Zealand just to stay here!

Loved the farmstay. Just outside of Matamata. About 25-30 minutes from Hobbiton. The place was spotless and the bathroom was luxurious. Arrived and was warmly welcomed. The couple who met me aren't always there but they made me feel at home. I even fed the sheep some bread. Would def stay again.

Debbie and Paddy were lovely hosts and they made me feel at home. My bedroom was very large and comfortable with beautiful views of the garden and countryside. Debbie's breakfast in the morning was delicious. Ngapuke Farm made my stay in Matamata an extra special one. I would definitely stay again!

This is a great hostel. I was pleasantly surprised at how nice, comfy and homey it was. The fireplace is great and so are the rooms. The staff are all super friendly, even took me and another guest for a hike to the nearby waterfalls. Super close to the main bus stop and the Hobbiton bus.

photos do not do justice to the how amazing the house and surrounding area is. Joy and Ian were fabulous hosts, very welcoming, engaging as much or as little as needed, provided homecooked meals (breakfast was included), and are genuinely nice people. I cannot speak highly enough of our time there!
