Located in Methven, Methven Lodge & BnB offers a shared lounge, a garden and a grill. in the morning I loved their freshly baked bread and flat whites on-demand, in the afternoon it was good to jump into a spa after a day on the mountain and in the evening it was good to sit next to the fireplace
We had stayed near Methven on a previous trip to New Zealand and enjoyed visiting the town during that stay. This trip was just an overnight stay (transiting north to south on the South Island), but without schedule pressure we could have easily extended our stay to enjoy autumn colors in the area. Plenty of dining options in town and basic amenities are available. If you need something bigger, Ashburton is 30 minutes away.
Bear in mind we had miserable weather as a cyclone bore down on the South Island, but Methven didn’t shine as a destination for us. We did have a nice lunch at a little cafe across from a grocery store—I think it was called Primo Cafe. The iSite staff was approachable, but not as welcoming as we encountered elsewhere. We were misinformed as to which restaurants were serving lunch, and her directions to a post box led me to nothing I could identify as a place to mail my letters. I gather it is a ski destination, or very scenic in the fall. I would visit our B&B again as a lovely place to stay, but would have to find local activities before arriving if I came again. Our plans had been to spend time outdoors, and the weather spoiled that. The town was quiet. Parking was very easy.
We only stayed one night as part of our weekend trip. It was a quiet night and the staff were very helpful we ate at the Blue Pub the food was superb quick hot tasty and such a generous serve we couldn't finish! A lovely warm evening we walked to the dairy afterwards
A perfect "smaller town" with the quietness and friendliness and it is only 1.5 hours from Christchurch by car. The ski resort, Mt Hutt was well run. But there is only one access road and gets very crowded and jammed up on a good day for ski. We were stuck in the traffic going up the last 10km for over a hour - looking into perfectly white hills in perfect ski condition. So near yet so far!
Haven't been to Methven for several years and just loved it. I used to go up to Methven as a teenager to dances - boy has it gone ahead. Everything is so inviting - the people are lovely - great supermarkets and eating places - We loved it. One day we drove through the Rakaia Gorge - it was so beautiful - I reckon Graham Sidney would have loved to have painted the picturesque visuals that we saw on our trip through to there. Autumn is a fabulous time of year.
A bit lacking in good food and drink - the best find was an unusual 2nd hand shop and cafe just back from the main centre. A serious lack of decent beer - Methven is obviously tied down by the big breweries
Location was perfect for the mountain,it was warm and everyone was really friendly.easy walk to supermarket and other facilities. The cost was in line with the rooms which are a little older but still really comfy. I was there to sleep and recover from a day on my board,it was perfect for this without breaking the bank Methven is a lovely typical rural town and we'll serviced with restaurants. I had an awesome few days snowboarding.
We just needed a place to lay our heads as we were moving further south on the South Island. Even though it was the off season, we had great support from Gayle and her partner. Checking in and out was a breeze and everything worked as needed (especially the heater for a chilly autumn night!). Centrally located with just a short walk to multitude of dining and shopping options in Methven.
Amazing staff were very friendly and extremely accommodating, the suit was beautifully presented and laid out. It was cold and windy when we arrived in methven and the owners were very welcoming and hospitable upgrading our room at no extra cost for the sake of it being vacant. very well presented and extremely cozy place and clean which is great to see. Highly Recommended
I stayed in an en suite room, which was very comfortable and clean... and the electric blanket was a welcome touch. The kitchen and lounge area were spacious and the owner was accommodating of my slightly late arrival, which I appreciated. A very good value - will definitely stay again next time I am in Methven!
Outstanding accommodation! Everything was brand new condition. Awesome decor and furnishings. Every detail thought off from slippers and robes to luxury bedding and towels. Super friendly hosts. Amazing property. Definitely recommend.
Centrally located in the town attached to a pub. It was perfect for our trip to Edoras, as the I Site building was just around the corner to our pick up point. We had an excellent meal in town. Lovely area.
This was the second year we visited this motel. The couple is very friendly and helpful with warm smiles. Our family had a great time here. We will choose this motel again if we go to Methven next time.
We love the very clean and tidy rooms and other common areas. The lodge is warm and friendly and nothing is too much trouble :)
Staff was very accommodating. Hotel was clean and it has everything we needed during our stay.
The host was awesome, friendly and even dropped us off at the pub to watch the rugby.

A beautiful place to stay! Beautiful setting, lovely warm rooms (the host Steph had put the fire and heaters on for us before we arrived), comfy beds, spacious living/dining rooms and kitchen. Short drive into town (you could walk in easily). I would definitely stay here again if I return to Methven.
