This was such a lovely property. It is decorated so nicely, the couch and beds were comfy. The pillows were amazing. Jo was great. We were arriving late so she messaged to see if we wanted the heating, electric blankets and lights on when we arrived. The house was warm. The little extras like milk in the fridge, electric blankets and a chocolate left on each bed was very much appreciated. Plenty of plugs in the bedrooms was also great.

The property exceeded our expectations. We wish we had spent more time there and will definitely try to come back. The house is beautifully done, we all slept very well, and the beds were extremely comfortable. Nothing was missing, highly recommended, you won’t be disappointed. Especially if you enjoy cooking the kitchen is a top-chef kitchen, and the open layout makes you feel connected with everyone else.

Methven was a great location for exploring the mountains and...

Methven was a great location for exploring the mountains and for doing some hot air ballooning. There are lots of options for places to eat & drink, and I think we will be back in the winter to enjoy some skiing too. There were a range of outdoor shops catering to skiing, walking and outdoor pursuits in general.

Methven is a little gem of a town set in stunning...

Methven is a little gem of a town set in stunning surroundings with plenty on offer in both summer and winter. The Opuke thermal pools are a must do and have previously done the hot air ballooning which is a definite highlight of the area. There's a good selection of eating options for both day and night. We ate at Baileys Irish pub and loved the food. Methven is a great option for a weekend getaway from Christchurch without having to go too far to enjoy some R&R.

Methven is a good base for exploring, viewing the southern alps, the Rakaia Gorge and close enough to visit the Staveley Station Cafe for lunch or morning tea. The 4 Square in town is well stocked and the staff are lovely. As an outdoor painter, there is a lot of inspiring scenery to paint.

A great little town with so much to offer.

A great little town with so much to offer. The Blue Pub had great food suitable for all the family's tastes. Everything you could want is available in the town. Lots of activities to do and the Opuke Pools are a must. We had the kids with us so didn't get to experience the adults only side of things where private pools and dining are available.

Opuke Thermal Pools & Spa are a must see, must do. World class! The mountains are beautiful. If you have transport, close by is Ashburton, Lake Coleridge and much more. The information centre in Methven, "I-Hub" is a wealth of information and things to do. Off the beaten track, an alive, looked after, vibrant small town NZ with genuine charm and a smile. My wife and I loved it, we will be back.

Methven is a good place to stay if you are planning a few...

Methven is a good place to stay if you are planning a few days skiing in the winter, be prepared for closed days. I would go for self catering as the standard of service and quality of food is much the same as what you could do at home. If you are prepared to pay top dollar there may be somewhere that is high standard, I never found it. On closed days you can walk the Fairy Trial by the racecourse, go to the hot pools try not to eat there unless you are prepared to wait 40 minutes to an hour for your food, beverages may not be up to standard. There are also other tracks in the bush not far from Methven that you can do a 30 to 3 hour walk. Catch the bus up the mountain its much less stressful than driving.

Home away from home is 2.minutes from the centre of Methven and 3 minutes from Opuke Spa. From the backyard, you can see Mount Hutt. It is super spacious, clean, warm and inviting. And the beds and linens were super comfortable.
