Located in the heart of Tongariro National Park, Skotel Alpine Resort offers a restaurant, a hot tub and a terrace bar with a fireplace. Most accommodations features stunning mountain or region views.... Located right next Tanaraki Falls trail...Cabins have beautiful view of the mountains...great value for money...
Oasis Motel & Holiday Park Turangi is located on the Volcanic Plateau region, next to beautiful Lake Taupo. Everything was easy..the facilities for cooking, the beds were extra comfortable .great having hot pools....made the kids go to sleep quickly! Mark the proprietor was welcoming ,explained things well and encouraged enquiries. Location great on the main road ,easy parking for our 3 vehicles and trailer.
Featuring 4 private hot mineral pools that are free and exclusive for guests, Rainbow Motel offers spacious self-catering units with central heating, fully equipped kitchens and TVs with DVD player... Friendly owner and hot spring. I saw double rainbows.
Moe Marie Sleep Peacefully features rooms in Turangi. The property provides garden views and a sun terrace. At the bed and breakfast, every room is equipped with a wardrobe. Very well equipped and comfy room next door to the host's house, it feels like a home away from home with a big panoramic window looking at the garden and a private wood deck with bbq. A nice touch is the complimentary breakfast (different muesli/cornflakes, milk, juice, coffee, tea, fruit and yoghurt in the fridge). Very friendly reception by the hosts and extremely convenient for the Tongariro crossing (the drive to the shuttle car parks is around 20 minutes).
Tongariro area is magnificent. Whakapapa still OK, but Top O Bruce has gone from a wonderland to plain bl...... awful. Loud Muzak blaring from PA outside and inside the (total ripoff cafe - small flat white nearing twice that in Taupo, and as for food.... ). Heavy machinery everywhere, heavy helicopter etc etc. Pay heaps for the nice antiseptic gondola if you wish.
A huge storm had hit the middle region of North islands soThe day we were booked to walk it with s guide it was cancelled We had friends fly in from Australia for this walk As the day progress the bad weather lifted so we went on our own Parked in the free 4 hour parking area and walked up to half way and back to the car sadly not seeing every thing but did enjoy the experience Returned to The Chateau for High tea Great experience
The area has numerous walks that are readily accessible for all levels of fitness without the heritage Tongariro crossing being included in that. They encompass a variety of alpine and sub alpine vegetation and landscapes. Two at least from adjacent to the DOC centre are loops that can be completed in a couple of hours. The silica rapids are a fascinating spot and worth visiting. If you can be dropped at the track end further up the Bruce road it is an easy two hour walk back to the DOC centre. The lower track walk to Taranaki falls is well worth the effort. The track signage we found to be accurate for the three walks we completed.

Great value, lovely large corner room with incredible Mountain Views and private balcony. Loved having a bathtub separate from shower (and private use of spa hot tub) after Tongariro crossing and the shuttle service right from our door. Restaurant food was good and most of the staff very helpful, especially “D” in the dining room. Also a convenient laundry room was a nice bonus. We really enjoyed this hotel! 👍

We liked that the room charges were very affordable but we would have loved to pay more for better rooms with kitchen n toilet attached. However, they din't had the room available for one night. They wanted us to stay 2 nights to be eligible for the those rooms which is not fair :(
