FAQs about hotels in Manila

The City of Our Affections

With a rich mix of influences from Indians, Chinese, Spanish and Americans, Manila is the vibrant capital of the Philippines and its cultural and economic centre. Thanks to the trade with Latin America during the three centuries of Spanish colonisation, Manila became an important city, known as the ‘Pearl of Orient’.

Don’t miss a visit to the Spanish remains in the Intramuros district. Important landmarks in the area are the Malacañan Palace, the City Hall, and the Manila Cathedral.

Rizal Park is a national icon, while the Baywalk promenade is great for enjoying the well-known city sunsets. Ermita and Malate districts are famous for the nightlife, trendy shopping and restaurants, as well as for some luxury Manila hotels. Between the promenade and the districts, its easy to see why Filipinos call Manila, “The City of Our Affections” where the people's love affairs with fashion, music, entertainment and sheer fun are on bright and beautiful display.

Divisoria is a traditional district for local shopping, bargains and typical food. Binondo is the oldest Chinatown in the world.

For hotels in Manila near the airport, Ninoy Aquino International Airport is not far from Makati City, where a second cluster of hotels are located.

Manila is very overcrowded with traffic and scams.

Manila is very overcrowded with traffic and scams. From the taxis to street people begging to the dirty back streets. Not my favorite city in the Philippines. Yellow cabs will not drop the flag and want flat fees. I recomend the grab cabs like the U.S. Uber type transportation. I'm not cheep so I tip them 50% to 100% of their predetermined fare. Nice drivers that are not trying to cheat you. Allow extra time to get to the airport at certain time of the day. When I have to be there I now stay at The Bayleaf Intramuros. Best place to stay in Manila. Great food, great service, historic site.

Loved the big rooms. Beds really comfy. Awesome rooftop bar and jacuzzi and pool. Excellent service and brill location surrounded by nightlife. Gripes were the air cons blow directly onto the beds which is not nice, rather than around the room. Lifts take a while epecially when it is busy. Superb value for money and I always stay here when in Makati.

Manila has great shopping malls but the traffic is chaotic and it is not a clean city. Manila really is only good for a few days at a time. I see it primarily as a hub to get to other destinations within the Philippines.

Lack of things to do for teenagers or children.

Lack of things to do for teenagers or children. If there is they are so far away to travel. With the traffic it is just pointless as your time and effort is wasted on sitting in traffic. Greenbelt 3, Landmark for reasonable priced stuff, Greenbelt 5 for people watching shopped at expensive places. Rockwell to walk and looked at stores. To eat: Sentro 1771 is my favorite. Tsokolateria is another. Omma. Chef Jessie’s place at Rockwell. Soul Origin. Avoid Manila altogether if you can due to the traffic.

As a guest who has visited all four and five star hotels in Makati during many stays in Manila, I have to say that in my opinion the Sommerset central stands out among these good hotels. Of course, every rating depends on personal preferences, but I particularly like this hotel too because of the friendliness of the staff. In general, employees in the Philippines try far more to be helpful than in many other countries. but in the summer set Central they are slightly surpassed

The facilities, amenities, and the room's space are even better than some 5-star hotels in Metro Manila. The soundproofing of the rooms is great too- I slept well despite being a light sleeper. Their staff are competent and friendly too. Perfect for celeb-staycations! I enjoyed the breakfast too although it can be repetitive for guests staying longer than 2 nights.

Great location to airport and shopping mall but quite far out from central Manila. Staff were helpful organising transport throughout our stay. There is a fantastic selection of restaurants on site or if cheaper local food is wanted, this can be reached a short stroll from the hotel.

This will be my go to hotel from now on if I need to be in manila for a couple of days. A bit pricier than other decent hotels in the area, but they could make up by providing rooms slippers and toothbrushes. Nevertheless, I still had an awesome stay.
