Facing the imposing Aqueduct of Amoreira in Elvas, a UNESCO World Heritage site, this hotel features spacious guest rooms and a garden with a seasonal swimming pool. The staff are delightful... attentive, genuinely kind, eager for you to have a good experience of their town and region. It might not be a 5-star luxury hotel, but it's absolutely charming because of all the personal attention they so readily extend to guests. The rooms are attractive: very clean, large and well designed. (e.g. Multiple electric outlets -- including on either side of the bed -- for recharging electronic devices.) The breakfast was excellent (truly excellent scrambled eggs + varieties of meats, local breads, mini croissants, cheese, fresh fruit, yoghurt, ceral.) The hotel bar is enormous, with several "conversation groupings of comfy chairs and tables, plus several televisions (noticed them in my peripheral vision but couldn't hear them 👍). The bar attendant was exceptional and quite knowledgeable about the region. A very decent menu of sandwiches and tapas-type snacks. Will definitely stay here again!

Elvas is an historic old city with an amazing Roman aqueduct. The local restaurants were not catering for tourists and hardly anyone spoke English. We ate in the hotel which was good value in a lovely setting. We visited the British cemetery for the soldiers of the Peninsular War. The old town is is all cobblestone alleys and we kept getting lost but that was part of its charm.
This is a cool fort town on the Spanish border worth visiting. Great for practicing my Spanish and Portuguese. The old town is walkable and worth a day. Get a number of a local taxi service to explore the other two forts nearby, pick up groceries etc. Plan ahead of taking a comboio or autoexpresso as it's in a pretty remote location so you can't just catch a train out every 30 minutes like you can in Lisbon. The region it is in, the Alentejo is also generally quite beautiful and it's worth taking a bus to Estremoz and the Evora if in the area.
Must see Both Fortes & Aquaduct A great small restaurant recommended by the Hotel was Mercato, is a perfect place to dine. Excellent service and food cooked to order with a lot of attention to quality and flavours.
Elvas is like a lost gem! All the portuguese should know the history of Elvas, in order to understand the importance of the city for the independence of the country. Elvas should be visited with a tourism guide, someone that can explain all the complexity of the place. Don´t forget that Elvas is a Unesco World Heritage site. If you are visiting Elvas during the summer, you can only use mornings to visit the city, unless you want to roast in the sun, so stay there 3 days. Enjoy a swimming pool during lunch and afternoon. I guess, you can stay 2 days during winter.
It is a very interesting town with a well-preserved medieval Castle, an impressive aqueduct dating back to the 16th century, a beautifully restored fort and the Our Lady of the Assumption Cathedral in the Republic Square. The town is enclosed by defensive walls with battlements and fortifications based on a star-shaped design built as a first line defence against a Spanish invasion. The historical old town is a treasure.
There is plenty to see and discover in this small hilltop town - certainly enough to keep one occupied for two or three days with much needed rests in between. It was August when we visited and restaurants were busy. I certainly recommend making a reservation in advance even for the simplest of places which are all fine. Do try the Alentejo wine - much of it is excellent. Walking the perimeter of the town was very enjoyable , even in the heat, and we loved the little English cemetery near the Castello which held the bodies of those that fought in the Peninsula War in the early 1800s. I also tried to visit as many churches as possible, cool, restful places on a hot summer's day. I would say Elvas was good for couples, those with young children and anyone interested in history. Perhaps not the place for teenagers looking for a Good Time. It is, however, easy to reach the busier (Spanish) towns of Badajoz (30 mins away) and Merida (one hour), and just one hour away from the historic town of Evora.
A place like Hotel Rural Monte da Provenca exists because two smart people with great taste invested in creating a little piece of paradise in the rolling hills outside of Elvas. The Booking photos are older and do not show the lusciousness of the garden that has been growing around the pool area. The hotel has been renovated to modern standards while keeping true to its history and Portuguese land house style. This is a place to enjoy peace and quiet while feeling very welcomed by an attentive staff.
We arrived by car so a free parking across the street was great. We has a room overlooking the aquaduct and therefore also our car. This was great. The rooms were nice. It's nice to have a pool but we only went for one dip as it wasn't too pleasant to be there. The staff was nice and welcoming. The hotel is close enough to the city center, perhaps a 5-10 min walk. This was good.
Elvas
The room was spacious and comfortable. The manager was very kind and accommodating. The property was beautiful, peaceful and well maintained. The breakfast was excellent with a good selection. Indoor parking included. Also the property has a large pool, but due to the cold weather we were not able to take advantage of it. I highly recommend this place.
We have stayed here before on our trip from Santander to Southern Portugal. It is very easy to find and a very interesting town. Well worth a visit to see the old town. Hotel staff all lovely we had a slight problem with the door lock and we were moved to a different room immediately. Staff all very friendly. Food good and breakfast good.
Elvas
Exceptional hosts/ owners that care about their establishment and the experience that guests will have of it and of the city. This translates into the quality of the rooms, the common areas and of the breakfast. It also leads to helping guests enjoy Elvas by making relevant individual recommendations and bookings. Highly recommended.
What a GREAT place! Perfect location, super clean and Ricardo was wonderful! The Queen hasn’t been open too long, they spent 2 years remodeling a very old building, and it is beautiful! The rooms are huge and the bathrooms are fantastic! I only stayed one night, but I wish it could have been more. Highly recommend!
Elvas
The location is perfect - right in the heart of Elvas - easy to find and a fabulous place. The hosts were amazing - met us, showed us where to park the car, recommended a fantastic place for dinner, and were just lovely people. Perfect for a couple travelling with two grown up kids.
Elvas
The apartment is very clean and as a vegetarian, it is very easy and convenient for me to prepare my own meal as the place has facilities for that. Elvas does not have many vegetarian options for eating out. Definitely recommend this place to stay.
Elvas
Very quiet area close to Elvas. We used the apartment at the start of the Corona crisis and it was a perfect place to self-isolate. There were (almost) no other guests, but if we needed something we could count on someone being at the reception.
This hotel was good, the price great value, basic but clean. Breakfast acceptable. Hotel very well situation just on the road bringing you to Spain so very handy for those who are crossing the border to Spain in Elvas.
Elvas
Nice 2 bedroom apartment, great air conditioning and wifi, great location to walk around Elvas, very friendly host once we found her, quiet at night (very noisy during the day with the laundry rooms next door).
The location and the surrounding nature. The swimming pool in the hot days. The night sky since the place is isolated and there is very little light polution.
Elvas
