Exceptional service and accomodation. Many thanks to our kind and attentive host d. Theresa. Wonderful family room with air conditioning, fridge, kettle and microwave. Wonderful shower / bathroom, lovely towels. The beds were comfortable. Hope to return one day and stay a little longer.

The view from the hotel was amazing, absolutely beautiful Portuguese countryside. We enjoyed the breakfast. Big huge modern TV and the air con was good. We were touring on motorcycles, reception let us park directly outside in view of reception.

This is a beautiful historic city, with the larger Spanish city of Badajoz just a couple of minutes away. The people here are friendly and welcoming and the food and wine are wonderful. There are some great museums and plenty of amazing restaurants and cafes to explore. Go while it's still overlooked and underpriced!

An interesting town, the centre enclosed within city walls.

An interesting town, the centre enclosed within city walls. Some very pleasant squares, small and large. The castle is worth a visit, with views of the surrounding countryside and de Graça fort to the north. Entry tickets cheaper for over 65s, which is often the case in Portugal. We loved the Igreja das Dominicas with its unusual shape, amazing tiles and wall paintings. We wanted to go to the Museum of Modern Art, but it was closed for renovations. Went to the Fort of St Luzia instead, which was very interesting, particularly with its links to the Duke of Wellington and the Peninsular War. Some very good value restaurants and cafés. We went to the restaurant at our hotel (São João de Deus) and thought the food was excellent quality, with amazingly low prices for some delicious starters in particular.

The hotel is very well located in the town, it has excellent...

The hotel is very well located in the town, it has excellent parking and great views out over the surrounding countryside. I found the staff were very helpful in where to go & visit and provided annotated directions on a local map. During my visit the restaurant wasn't open but there are plenty off options in the town

Off the beaten path, on the far East side of Portugal (nearly on the Spanish border). Friendly and interesting people, and interesting history to explore through castles, forts and a marvelous aqueduct.

Lots to see, so make sure you have comfortable clothing and shoes. Like most Portugeus towns, it is very hilly with narrow streets and lots of steps. Architecture is stunning and historic with plenty of stories of old. More vegetarian/vegan restaurants would be a bonus. The whole Alentejo region is a must-see when visiting this beautiful country.

I chose the guesthouse as a last minute addition to my journey as I really wanted to return to explore Elvas. The location is ideal as it sits within the city walls and offers the chance to stay within an authentic Portuguese townhouse. The room was more than adequate though I always prefer my own kettle and tea-making facilities in a room whereas the guesthouse offers this in a communal space. Really the location and cost were spot on.

We regularly stay at this hotel. It is well run, has good staff and is well placed for the centre of the city which is a 10 minutes walk across the Roman Bridge. Also private underground parking which many hotels in the city lack. Good value.

Beautiful hotel in historic house with very friendly staff! Breakfast outside was beautiful beneath the trees and pool area nice and clean. Lovely relaxing spot upstairs. Comfortable bed. Great restaurant "Girassol" nearby !
