Facing the Tagus River and built on seven hills, charming Lisbon is one of the oldest cities in the world. It offers unique tram rides, intimate Fado performances, great dining venues and much more.
The city is famous for its districts: the Belém's famous monuments; the Alfama's labyrinthine streets, bars and small shops; and the trendy Alcântara's docks. Lisbon’s most popular nightlife and shopping venues are located in Bairro Alto, while the traditional heart of the city beats rhythmically in the Baixa.
Enjoy a walk in the greenery of Jardim Botânico, admire the architecture of the Jerónimos Monastery or explore Feira da Ladra flea market. The Chiado area serves the city's best traditional Portuguese food. No meal is complete without some famous pastéis de nata!
Getting to the city centre is only a metro or bus ride from Lisbon Portela Airport. Whether you want a luxury hotel, a friendly guesthouse or a cosy apartment, Booking.com has plenty of accommodations for your holiday in Lisbon.
Lisbon is beautiful, its people are vibrant, polite, helpful, hard working. Favourite spots-the panorama on top of the monument of the great geographical discoveries, Sintra, Cascais. We tried different places for eating and most of them offered tasty food and fast service with friendliness. Food is cheaper than in Britain. Our preferences go for fish menu. We paid with cards everywhere. Getting around Lisbon is easy. We used metro. For Sintra- we used train. Both very cheap. We booked the first night a tour to Sintra, visiting the garden and Pena Palace. While we liked Quinta da Regaleira, the visit to Pena Palace was a disappointment. Outside it is picturesque, but inside visit should be avoided-overcrowded, nothing exceptional to see, a bit hard for walking if you are older. If you can, go to Quinta da Regaleira and to Cascais with more time there, and not to Pena Palace.
The area in which we stayed was not easy to get around in. The streets are very narrow and at times challenging. Staying alert was an absolute must because of this. The food offerings we selected were excellent! I must say that the shopping experience was quite nice. Every clerk most helpful. The tile and cork work is amazing, so do leave room in your suitcase or carry-on for some special items. The departure from the airport was a nightmare and will not be repeated. The security check process was insulting and the agents were not friendly at all.
It is an enormous city, not for all tastes, go with the intention of just eating fish and seafood because everything else was a major dissapointment, even the so called typical Portugese food. Watch out for menu's that go on for miles which cannot possible be anything other than out of a packet.
Lisbon is an attractive city - but very busy around the old quarter? If you want to stay somewhere a bit quieter but still have easy access to the attractions and lots of restaurants I suggest stay in the Oriente area. It has a good access to the city via the metro but is much more relaxed. It has a huge shopping centre if you need some retail therapy. We had 3 nights in Lisbon which was about right. Recommend going to the oceanarium if you have time and need a break from historical buildings - it is world class and very soothing. We went on the tram for the experience but it does get very crowded, but is a good way to see places not accessible by other transport means. There are great restaurants in Lisbon itself with streets of dining places available. Lots of seafood options too. Local bakeries also should be tried. A river cruise is also a must do thing. We used the Hop on Hop off bus with boat cruise option to get around but local transport is cheap if you want to make your own way around.
Lisbon unfortunately has become spoilt by the overwhelming number of people visiting it from cruise ships, so it has the same problem as Venice. Three cruise ships arrived while we were there which made it almost unbearable. Prices are 200 to 300 % inflated for food and drink compared to places around Lisbon or even Spain. Also unfortunately the town itself is quite run down, dirty with graffiti everywhere - even on major monuments. There is a high population of young people from North Africa peddling drugs and pickpocketing is very high. The police presence seemed to be small to non-existent, so be careful on the streets
Wonderful city. Mixture of every city I have visited but better. Great atmosphere, friendly people and gorgeous food. The Metro is just superb and walking isn't that difficult. Sorry but I don't have any negatives.
Sao Vicente, Lisbon
Exceptional hospitality. They think of everything including ice in the freezer, coffee machine water filled, lovely toiletries. Fantastic breakfast and yogurt, cheese and h on the fridge for a snack. Bonus: the place is decorated beautifully and the scent of the hotel is AMAZING (so amazing, I had to look up the brand but sadly they don’t ship to the USA). This is the best place I’ve ever stayed in all my travels abroad. They understand hospitality and I looked forward to returning each evening after a day out in Lisbon.
The hotel is charming and very well-located. It's close to the most incredible places downtown. Nearby you can take the subway, train, and bus by walking around two and five minutes away. The room is pretty clean, and everything works well. The breakfast is excellent. It includes brads, ramóns, cheeses, and other Portuguese specialties. The price is reasonable. It is one of the best options to stay in Lisbon if you can not invest a lot of money in a five-star hotel but wants to stay in a great place.
Everything was perfect, one of the best hotels I've been, very beautiful and modern with many small details that takes you to a special experience. Everything was very clean, quite neighborhood and close to malls and the airport. The breakfast was perfect, many varieties of food, and covid19 precautions are being taken very seriously. But the most important thing, the staff, amazing staff, friendly, caring, professional, really the top of the top, 5 stars!! Thank you!
We stayed here twice. We could not fault this hotel. It feels 5 star. The service and staff are unbelievably good. Luis helped us with a very challenging situation. Its spotlessly clean, the rooms are lovely, the terrace is beautiful, the location is an easy spot, the breakfast is wonderful. When back in Lisbon, we will not hesitate to book again. If this hotel have others in other countries, we would stay there based on the Lisbon H10 experience. Thankyou.
Misericordia, Lisbon
Everything! First of all the staff is just so nice and kind! There’s someone in the front desk 24/7 which is pretty nice too. All the electronics works perfectly and overall it’s the best place I stayed at ever! But the most important part is the location! 90% of lisbon’s best things to see are 5-20 minutes walking, and the best nightlife in lisbon is a few streets away so you are 2 minutes walking from all the bars but your hotel stays quiet and clean
The hotel was 5 stars all the way . You could not get a better location as we could walk everywhere . We were so impressed with Lisbon and having picked this hotel made our stay . During the short stay we even managed to sit around the pool and sun bath . The pool and the courtyard for drinks we’re so lovely and relaxing . Service and staff were 10/10 for me so highly recommend. May be a bit dearer then others locally but worth every penny
Misericordia, Lisbon
All the staff was exceptional, gracious and very helpful on suggesting restaurants, walks, and sightseeing. Breakfast was best of our 3 week stay in Portugal, and they graciously allowed us an early one to make sure we got to airport on time. Location as in the center of a very social part of old Lisbon, walkable to all nearby sights and riverside area. Room was quiet despite a very in-city location
Arroios, Lisbon
Absolutely best hostel ever. The staff is incredibly helpful and friendly. They go above and beyond to make sure you have the best time in hostel, in Lisbon and in Portugal. They have dinner Events, pub crawl, fado, etc. They also gave us a guide for beaches on the West Coast. They als kept some of my stuff and I picked them up 2 weeks later when I returned to Lisbon, this was a huge help.
Just about anything - in particular the kindness and helpfulness of the staff. I travel extensively (at least pre-Covid) but how you are treated in this hotel is par to the best 5 stars in the world. An extra thanks to the bartender (whose name I do not remember but who introduced me to amazing wines) and the two ladies who did the free guided tours, Mrs. Silvestre and Mrs. Guitana.
Everything! The location can’t be beat and the hotel is absolutely lovely. Erich and Soraia were the absolute best! So welcoming and helpful. they went above and beyond to make sure our stay was perfect. We have traveled extensively in Europe over many years, and this hotel is definitely in the top 5 we have stayed at. This property is a must for your stay in Lisbon.
Misericordia, Lisbon
What a wonderful luxury boutique hotel, right in the middle of the City center. Beautiful old (Late 1500's) building with exceptional appointments and awesome service. The staff, Carla, Natalya, Alan Carlos, Diego Luiz, to name a few all bent over backwards to accommodate our needs. Would not hesitate to recommend this Hidden Gem in the heart of Lisbon.
It was an extra ordinary experience! That breakfast, my god, the best I ever had. And I went already to many 5 star hotels. Most friendly staff and a great bed in the clean, cosy hotelroom. For me, one of the best hotels in the greater Lisbon Area. I will be back many times here. Many thanks to all of the staff.
Santa Maria Maior, Lisbon
This is not a 5 star hotel it’s better. It’s an authentic pensao. The location was good, the room was comfy but the best was the sweet woman who came down the 3 flights of stairs to greet me and carry my suitcase up for me and when I left down for me.
location , surrounded by boutique shops ,20 minutes walk to Torreira Beach. The staff , Andre and Iris Goncalves are wonderful ! And Carlos Harranita served us the best breakfast ever. It was a 5 stars experience 👋
I loved my stay here, hands down the best hotel I’ve stayed in 😍 I had the best time in portugal thanks to the hotel and its staff!! if I could give it 30 stars I would. best place to stay at in Lisbon.
Best hotel option nearby Lisbon airport. Room was big, clean and well maintained and with parking in front of the hotel Very good service from the staff.
