We stayed at the Infante de Sagres Hotel in central Porto, a boutique hotel conveniently situated in a buzzy central area. However, it becomes buzzy at 2am, as Portuguese, as Spanish, enjoy having fun well into the night. I'd suggest to go sightseeing in the morning, have a siesta after lunch, and go out after 9pm. Ribeira is good for bars and restaurants all day and night. If you have 500 euros spare for dinner for two you can have it at the Yeatman Hotel on the Villa Nova de Gaia side with fabulous views over the city or at Casa de Chá (House of Tea) with amazing sunset (perfect place to propose) where you will be offered a tasting menu at 120 euros per person, drinks on top. I personally think it's waste of money as Porto offers so many good authentically Portuguese restaurants. Out of three days in Porto we had lunch three times at the restaurant, just round the corner from our hotel Ostras Coisas, relatively new restaurant serving fresh seafood and amazing oysters. The city of Porto has preserved its authenticity, unlike some cities that turn its back to their own history and architecture. Local people, portuenses as they are called, are very nice and kind compared to snobbish lisboetas living in Porto.
We spent 3 nights in Porto after 3 nights in Lisbon. Both cities were impressive but Porto was our favourite. We found it easy to walk round and helpful locals advised us of best walking routes. We loved the waterfront cafes with nearby stalls and musicians providing entertainment. Very atmospheric. We ate at the Hotel Porto Downtown one night which had very good food but quite pricy. Would also recommend Aurora restaurant which is a 3 minute walk from hotel. Excellent food reasonably priced. Took a boat trip and the cable car. Had great difficulty getting on a historic tram as turned out there was a festival and trams not running but we were not advised of this at the time of purchasing the tickets.
Liked the vast array of different shops, the friendly people. The coffee, We did a bus tour hop on hop off, so interesting. Enjoyed a trip up the duro river with Viator travel. Very informative and great day out. Hotel was positioned right in the middle of the best shopping street, so convenient for walking to the river and getting around. Definitely recommend the hotel, it was just lovely, with great staff, but book a larger room as the small rooms are quite small. Marvellous short break.
Took the girlfriend over for a two week stay, did wonder if it would be to long in one place but it wasn't. We were blighted by the rain in the first week but it didn't stop us touring around and because our accommodation was so close to the Metro, we could nip back for a break/coffee then head out again. Visited Braga, Coimbra and Guimaraes on the train, all fine places from a historical, scenic and architectural point of view...but we went for the football. We also ventured north to the coastal port of Vigo, over the border in Spain. Other footy games we took in were at Porto and then Boavista, a 15 minutes stroll from the Hotel..... as well as Varzim, the seaside resort to the North at the end of one of the Metro lines...where we watched the sun go down over the Atlantic, from the harbour's breakwater. Locally we had a few days exploring the Old Town down to the rivers edge, crossing the superb bridge to the south side. We enjoyed the tapas of a bar and a bottle of Rose and a bit of the local port wine.Never actually managed to fit in a visit to one of the Port Cellars, football came thick and fast and a revisit must be on the cards. My cameras been busy with literally thousands of pictures over the last two weeks but when you visit so many attractive sights it can't be helped.Just a stroll around the streets of Porto is worth it, the buildings and fountains are a picture and Sao Bento train station like an art gallery.Great views of the river from Jardin da Morrow metro stop or even higher up on the Old Battery building. Lovely people as well, always helpful to us strangers.

Susana was amazing! She went over and beyond to help us when my internet stopped working and also arranged an early breakfast for us (we had to leave very early). The room was small BUT perfect and clean. It has it’s own designated parking space (parking is limited to none in Portugal) so it’s a huge plus. Definitely I’ll come back and stay here and to see more of Porto.

The host Marta was really helpful and hospitable. She gave us the information as much as possible. Honestly we traveled around Portugal and we didn't see this kind of hospitality. Other thing that surprised us there were a welcoming pack like portwine and coffee. The apartment was really clean and new. It was close to the center. We didn't even use a transport.

The location is amazing. The most beautiful hotel in Portugal, clean, stylish, beautiful, intimate, spacious, different from everything we have experienced so far. The owners of the hotel are simply charming and courteous. Helping and directing everything required. Highly recommend. Simply a maximum (even inexpensive) value for our selection. Dafna and David. Location and hosts. Raquel and Luis were truly lovely hosts. Gave us very good recommendations for restaurants and suggested places to see in Porto. They were very helpful and offered to coordinate pick up of our luggage which got lost at the airport. Porto was our favorite city in Portugal and that was partly due to the accommodation and lovely hosts.

The property was maintained in a very good condition. The owner prepared everything I may need. I prepared several meals by myself here and I could find any appliance necessary. I had a very pleasant time here. I have to say this is the best place I stayed during my trip in Portugal. If I visit Porto again, I will stay with this place again.

Somewhere in between hostel and bed and breakfast, centrally located in an artsy area within walking distance to all major sights. Rooms are as quiet as can be expected in this lively city. With food and drinks abundant in portugal, the lack of a bar doesn't matter much, though social atmosphere might be improved by it.

We spent 10 days in Portugal. This place is one of the best where we stayed - it has a very good location (close to the city centre and bolhao market), the apartments in the building are new and renovated and very spacious. Plus, the price per night is very good. Really enjoyed it, I wish we could have stayed longer.

Based on the river about a 15-20 walk to the main Ribeira area, the hotel is well located if you don’t want to stay in the thick of things. Portugal has Uber and it is a very short ride into the central area. You may also catch one of two trams nearby. Breakfast was ok, and the staff were very helpful.
