Faro is the picturesque capital of the Algarve region, offering colourful streets and buildings, Moorish influence, and typical Portuguese charm. It is encompassed by the lagoon of Ria Formosa Natural Park, and offers wide beaches, a laid-back atmosphere, and a vibrant nightlife.
Occupied by Phoenicians and Carthaginians, and once an important Roman harbour and Moorish culture capital, it was almost flattened by the 1755 earthquake. Happily, the historic centre survived and is today one of best preserved in Algarve. Choosing a hotel in Faro’s Old Town will allow you to have a more authentic Portuguese experience.
The long, sandy beach of Praia de Faro is 7 km from the city, and the beach on Barreta Island –also known as Deserta - is probably the most tranquil in the region. Hotels near the beach in Faro and the surrounding towns of Olhão, Tavira, Quinta do Lago, Quarteira and Vilamoura, are all excellent ways to enjoy sunny Portugal.
Faro International Airport offers connections throughout Europe, and the city also offers ferry, railway, and bus links. Whether you need a beach resort or a hotel near Faro Airport, check out the wide offer available on Booking.com!
The local restaurants were amazing! And incredibly affordable compared to Albufeira. We did not have a vehicle and were able to walk everywhere, but having a cranky baby and a tired 5 year old limited what we could see in a single afternoon.
A wonderfully chilled out vibe to this walkable city, which offers old town and modern experiences. Food choice amazing. Transport to nearby towns and beaches very accessible and easy to locate. Weather just gorgeous (mid - late September) Municipal market excellent. Tavira elegant Restaurants all very decent and good value for money Get to Culatra! Estoi to be avoided
Since our previous visit in 2009 Faro has changed a great deal. It's now more a destination in its own right rather than just the place where the airport is. There are less derelict buildings and the place is livelier and more prosperous looking. There are more bars and restaurants but some real treasures have been lost - the wonderful Fim Do Mundo restaurant is no more and the pleasant gardens with fountains have been displaced by a car park. Having said that, it's a great place to spend a few days with great beaches just a short boat ride away.
We only saw a small part of Faro as we were only there for 2 nights for an early morning flight. It was nice going down the pedestrianised street past the bars and restaurants down to the marina and only a short walk to the old town.
We arrived in Faro by train from Lisbon and it was pretty easy to walk to our accommodation with our luggage. There were many delicious restaurants and one that stood out was Brazilian, however I don't remember the name. We enjoyed walking through Faro's old town, the marina and looking in the many shops.
Faro was a lovely city to visit. It felt safe as a solo traveller, and the restaurant/shop staff were all friendly and welcoming. There was a lovely feeling to the town, exploring the old and new parts, and discovering Roman remains and the Skull church is well worth a visit. I took the ferry to Faro Beach which was great (although don't get the last ferry back as there will be too many waiting!). If you want other beaches, book in advance as the locals like to book up and enjoy!
Perfect position for the airport and to drop off any rental car. I got a taxi at 6.30 am and it was a 5 min ride (€12 fixed price). Reception is great and helpful. The space close to the pool is chilled and nice to grab a drink. The rooms are spacious. Not the newest but they are ok, quiet and beds are very comfortable. assuming you need to stay because of airport proximity it is a great choice. I’d come back if I end up in Faro to travel in Portugal.
The location was excellent, within a very short walking distance of the train station which was my main reason for booking this hotel. It was also within walking distance of the Faro historic centre. The aircon was also very good, no problem whatsoever. Overall it was fine as I was only staying for one night but I would not like to stay here longer. The room was very reasonably priced so do keep that in mind.
Reasonable hotel rate. Good location not really far away from the historic center of Faro. Very basic but good in appearance and clean room. They put me on the 2nd floor and the city view from my room was very nice. Comfortable bed. A bathtub big enough to lay down and relax. The hotel is pet friendly, but there is a pet fee per night.
Faro
Everything was new and clean. I stayed one night only and arrived late so I could not meet the staff. I picked up the key from the nearby Hotel and gave it back there too. Everything smooth and communication was great. The place was very nice and perfectly located to both wander around Faro as well as to reach public transportation
It was a great location, hotel staff were amazing the breakfast was splendid, everything was clean and fresh. Room had balcony which was amazing, and bath which was also very nice. Two bars with great staff, overall my fist Portugal experience was great thank you.
The hotel location isn’t best for getting to central Faro or beach but is only like 7minutes drive from airport which is nice. Breakfast was really good and all stuff were nice and helpful. It also has a gym and pool and free parking is just in front of the hotel.
Exceptional stay in the old city center of Faro. I was very plesantly surprised with the overall quality and attention to details. Beautifull and stylish rooms and awesome roof top bar and restaurant. I would highly recommend it, true 5 stars hotel.
Faro
The room was spacious and comfortable. loved the breakfast box delivered to my room. The breakfast was good and plenty. The hotel is also just 5 min walk away from the station making it convenient for me for my day trips outside Faro.
So convenient for exploring Faro marina and town. Close to bus station and only 15 minutes from airport. Hotel staff very friendly. Hotel very clean and well organised. Comfy bed. Lovely breakfast.
A very clean, comfortable and well run hotel. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel is close to a supermarket and restaurant and around 500m from the Faro airport.
