If I could give a million stars I would. Genuinely. Beautiful house, the loveliest hosts I’ve ever met (and I stay in holiday rentals a lot), and the most beautiful views and grounds. Our daughter got to feed the goats and chickens and helped with the cows, and Lucia and Tony made pizza and cookies with us on our last night. I cannot thank them enough for their kindness and generosity. We had honey from the bees and delicious eggs from the hens, and fresh bread every day. Truly felt better than a home away from home - because we don’t live anywhere near as stunning a place :) Highly and fully recommended. Our daughter and we will be talking about this stay for all our years. Thank you Lucia and Tony! We arrived as guests and left as friends 💕

Horta is beautiful!

Horta is beautiful! There is a lot to do, hiking, beach, diving and whale watching, visit Capalinhos, great food. The city is very walkable. The people are friendly. We enjoyed meals at Medalhas, Canto da Doca, Peter Café Sport and Restaurant Atletico.

The boulevard along the harbour offers beautiful views...

The boulevard along the harbour offers beautiful views towards Pico island. The town is rather small but offers all the basics. The people are are friendly. It's not so suitable for shopping and to really appreciate it you should walk around a lot and also explore the nature around the town. Public transport is available though rather limited.

Horta is a fabulous town, friendly people, nice restaurants...

Horta is a fabulous town, friendly people, nice restaurants and pedarias and shops in and around the Main Street Our favorite place to eat was a fab resteraunt overlooking the ocean Praia do a Almoxarife. Lovely harbor with interesting paintings from passing sailors. Porto Pim Beach close by. Probably best to get a hire car to see all the lovely spots around the island (quite expensive) although the local buses are pretty good too. Plenty of walking/hiking trails especially the walk around the rim of Caldeira e Capelinhos. Lots of amazing view points and botanical gardens

We went on a full day tour of Faial with Andre at Visitfaial...

We went on a full day tour of Faial with Andre at Visitfaial. This let us see all the sites. Faial is a beautiful island and I wish we had more time there. Horta is more of a town than a city, size wise. It has a big marina and this was buzzing with lots to look at including some big yachts. There are some busy bars and restaurants which are fun to visit although we preferred the quieter ones in Porto Pim Bay Area. Genuino has lots of memorabilia from the owner’s sailing adventures. The tuna steaks were massive. We had a table upstairs at window with lovely views across the bay. Taberna de Pim was also good and we were able to eat outside on the bay.

What I love about Horta is that you feel like you are...

What I love about Horta is that you feel like you are entering an entirely different culture and way of living. I do not like traveling to areas where I feel it is American culture in a foreign place. If I go again I would definitely make more of an effort in learning the language enough to carry on small conversations. Breakfast was a culture shock for me. I am used to protein shakes and toast in the morning. They do not eat breakfast that way. There was only one place that served omlettes or eggs but even there it was not close enough to an American breakfast. Lunch and dinner were fine. If you will be there for a week or more I highly suggest you go to the grocery store for breakfast items like milk, cereal, bread etc. The pastries at the various bakeries are to die for. I have put on weight despite heavy walking.

Horta has a long history with the sea and sailing.

Horta has a long history with the sea and sailing. Its a walking paradise with sandy beaches and many trails with great views of island and sea. This place will take you back in time, great food and friendly islanders. Its a place where time has stood still for some time, but with all the moderns necessities. Safe place to relax with your family and be at peace. If you are looking for golfing and casinos and five star hotels this is not you.

Half of the property is the location and the view, one of the most amazing in the Azores. Just sit on the terrace in the evening with a glass of wine and you will understand. The house is nicely decorated and very clean.
