We travelled to Asuncion for the South American Bird Fair in...
We travelled to Asuncion for the South American Bird Fair in the port area by the river in the old part of town. Spent a couple of days wandering around what felt like a friendly city which is quite walkable, although the pavements need care.
Good food options - we liked La Vermuteria enough to go back twice. Wonderful old building which shows what can be done with careful restoration. Independence Museum also worth a visit to get a feel for the history of Paraguay.

It has two centers.
It has two centers. The old Center is a bit run down but has a lot of history the new center around a Villa Morra mora is more up to date and commercial with plenty of restaurants. Nice weather but can be hot in January. Friendly people. Feels very safe to walk around even at night. Uber and Bolt are cheap for getting around.

Climate change is real in Paraguay so summer months can be too hot. Railway museum is interesting. Excellent well-established restaurant, Lido Bar, has a big menu including traditional Paraguayan food with at least two locations; they also have a free charging station for phones with individual lock boxes.

The heart of South America with very friendly people, delicious traditional food like sopa Paraguaya (not soup) and chipa are staples of their traditional cuisine!
Overlooked in most cases Asuncion, like the country itself has many hidden gems ready to be discovered. The city of Asuncion is a green garden in part due to its lush vegetation.
Two days here is more than enough to get an overall feel of the city. The international airport is not that far away from the city center either.

Walking distances in city center but mind side walks are irregulars. Siesta time quieter than other hours. Overall 2 full days enough for a basic city trip including shopping in Lomas area.

A sprawling city that’s worth a day to explore.
A sprawling city that’s worth a day to explore. The old centre lacks any world class sights, but there’s enough to keep you interested. A lot of it was run down and being redeveloped and downright sketchy in places.
Best to stay outside the old town in one of the more modern areas that have eateries and bars. Use a hailing taxi service (Bolt or Uber). They are cheap.

The hotel is highly recommended to anyone wishing to visit Asuncion. All the staff speak English and are very friendly and flexible. The rooms are really very clean, directly comparable to hotels in Europe. The pool and the view from the roof terrace are also beautiful and you have peace and quiet. The price-performance ratio is also excellent. I paid the bill for the hotel at reception and it was about the same price as advertised by Booking (about 50 francs more), which I think is great.

A really charming hotel in a great neighbourhood of Asuncion. The rooms are huge, the staff are incredibly kind and helpful, and the building itself is really interesting and beautifully decorated, with great facilities. Although on the map it looks a little way from the 'centre' of Asuncion, for anyone who doesn't know the city, it's in an up and coming neighbourhood with nice restaurants and cafes. A great place to stay, and really exceptional value for money.

It is rare to stay in a place that is recognised as a place with historical value. Asuncion Palace is such a place. Steeped in history, and full of character, the rooms were big with features reflecting its history. I had a wonderful stay and would not hesitate to go back when I visit Asuncion next.

This is a beautiful hotel close to the old town in Asuncioñ. It is an oasis in the metropolis.
The ambience and character was amazing.
The staff were immaculate, polite and attentive.
The facilities and room is of rhe highest quality.
