Offering direct access to beautiful Ao Kratueng Beach, Makathanee Resort is located on the island of Koh Mak. Guestrooms and the outdoor pool are set within tropical landscaped gardens. We loved this place. Fabulous location, right on the beach but also walking distance to lots of great restaurants. We loved the beach and pool. The hotel hired out motorbikes which were great to see the rest of the island (also a really quiet place to ride a motorbike which we loved). Staff were really friendly and helpful. Restaurant served good food and we enjoyed the breakfast. We can’t wait to come back. Highly recommended.

The staff are all amazing and made us feel very welcome, even taking us to some of the parties on the island which were thrown by the locals. The Cafe serving breakfast was very good. The beds were very comfortable and the rooms spotless - we ended up extending our stay twice and can't wait to go back!

Koh Mak Resort is located in Ao Suan Yai on the west side of Koh Mak. Some bungalows are located along the private white sandy beach. Koh Mak resort is a lovely place conveniently located right by the pier which is handy when you arrive or leave or take a boat to neighbouring Koh Kham island . we have found lot of new Thai friends here who made us feel very special . the manager who calls herself Sauce is lovely and very accommodating, helpful and efficient . anything we needed , she assisted promptly and always had a smile on her face . restaurant and bar staff became practically like a family to us on the first day . my daughter took special shine to a barman called Mr Nu and followed him everywhere. he was very attentive and kind to her throughout our stay . they all were . when we were leaving , they walked us to the pier and hugged us and waved goodbye . to be honest we didn’t want to leave and we’re so sad to leave them behind . the resort is lovely and the rooms are very spacious with plenty of storage space . plus they are right on the beautiful beach . Koh Mak Resort also has a little shop on the premises . there is an old lady called Attiya that runs it and she is like a grandma anybody would want . so sweet and always had a kind words for us and my daughter , even gave us some free gifts from her lovely shop . make sure you’d pop in to say hello . we also bought few things there , she has some lovely clothes for sale :) The beach is lovely and when the tide is out you can walk to the furthest end towards Turtle Beach , just beware of stray dogs that are often moving in packs .Take a coconut or sharp rock in case they get aggressive , they usually scamper off fast when you threaten them with it and shout Pai in a loud voice ! we loved Koh Mak resort , everything about this place was amazing and we felt super welcome throughout our stay there . we would definitely be back !

A gem of an island, beautiful beaches with clear warm water. Quiet roads with little traffic so easy to explore by walking, bicycle or motorbike. Accommodation to suit all budgets, plenty of cafe, restaurants and beach bars. Not yet spoilt by commercialisation....Highly recommend.
It has a very natural, unspoiled vibe. Beaches are clean and safe for swimming. The people on the island are friendly. We had a great chicken baguette at Koh Maak’s Coziest restaurant. I had a very nice Massaman curry at a beachside restaurant called Sabai guest house I think, just along from Makathanee resort. Where we stayed By the Sea had a really nice indoor outdoor bar restaurant and Silke the hostess/owner was charming and helpful. Hiring a motorbike at our resort was the best idea as it made it very easy to explore the island and move place to place.
Very small island, so wild. The beaches are amazing, unfortunately in some parts you can find lot of plastic, which ruins the beauty of this small island. Sunset is amazing. Best place is at the rooftop bar at the Makathanee resort. A must is to go for a drink at Monkey bar
We loved the sleepy island of Koh Mak. It offered the perfect amount of activities and relaxation. The restaurants were amazing, especially the Food Art House. The Phoenix Muay Thai Gym provided an amazing opportunity to learn the local sport and get in a good workout!
Ko Mak is a really special Thai island. Apparently still privately owned, there is a determination not to over-develop. Consequently it feels very unspoilt, whilst still being very comfortable. If you want lots to do and late nights then it isn’t for you, but if you want a lovely, friendly easy going place and some stunning beaches then it’s perfect! Do be aware that whilst the island is generally very clean, it does suffer from some trash being washed in from elsewhere. The islanders work very hard at keeping the beaches pristine but after a windy period and on some stretches of “unowned” beach you do come across trash - such a shame!
Perfection. Quiet and not touristy. Beautiful beaches, lots of activities. Koh Mak Seafood restaurant have the best food I've had in Thailand so far. You have to take a taxi if you can't ride a scooter, next time I would like to hire one. Especially if on the far side of the island. Would love to go back.

Hidden Beach is in a secluded corner of the beach, and it is a tropical oasis. The biggest downside is there is no kitchen but Jake and the staff are very helpful in arranging delivery food and there are a few places to eat within 10 minutes walk. The bed and shower are both 5* hotel quality. The drinks are well made and well priced. Jake is very friendly and wants you to have a lovely stay. He’s happy to chat at the bar for hours or leave you alone to nap in a hammock. Hidden is an idyllic beach holiday.

•Koh Mak resort is next to the Panan Pier, Bar and Minimart. •My room was B10 a little bit far from resort office but next to the beach. :) •Staffs were nice to us even with Covid-19 •I love breakfast. They have many kind of dishes ex. Thai style rice noodle with pork, pancake, eggs menus, fruites and hot chocolate etc,. •Motor rental 250THB per day without fuel. •Mojito is nice at Bar. •They have beach chairs for each guest in front of the room. It was so amazing to sleep with the sea sound.

This place is so amazing, the resort is located at the end of southern cape where you can see sunrise from your bed and you can see sunset at the restaurant. It’s very clean and relaxing. The food is so tasty especially “Chicken and Cashew-nut” RECOMMENDED!!! By the way, The resort has no beach so NO SANDFLIES!! we’re so lucky cause we are allergic with them. You can book everything you need at the reception. Staff is so friendly and very helpful. We will be back for sure!!
The hotel staff is very helpfull even they are obiously overstrained. There is only 8 staff left from 30plus. they still smile and try to help you whereever they can. the resort has very nice facilities such as tennis, basketball and badminton courts. unfortunately it is all a bit runned down. but you still can use it. ther i a very nice working space.
