The town is absolutely beautiful! The hiking opportunities were great. We didn't do any of the jeep trails but there were a lot of Jeeps so I'm certain it was fun. It was a bit expensive so if you're on a budget get groceries before you get here because there aren't a lot of good options for groceries or inexpensive resturants unless you drive to Ridgeway. The hotsprings are amazing! Overall I would highly recommend it!!
Beautiful scenic area!! Loved checking out the local breweries, Grumpy Pants had good beer and great character (cash is preferred payment method); Ouray Brewery has rooftop seats with great view of area; Colorado Boy's pizza says feeds 1-2 people, just buy one for two people. Getting around town was super easy, just park along the street for free and everything is pretty much within walking distance. Ouray hotsprings was not for us-meaning it was filled with kids and families and did not look relaxing at all- that said, Orvis Hot Springs was just a 10 minute drive away- adults only, clothing optional...very relaxing!! We booked a jeep tour with Alpine Adventure and LOVED it!! We also rode horses with Action Adventure trail rides, this was probably the highlight of our trip. Take a scenic drive (about an hour) to Silverton and had breakfast on a rooftop at a coffeeshop then drove back to Ouray. Lots of short hiking trails with great scenic rewards near town too. Final thought, for the John Wayne fans..it was fun to see movie memorabilia from when the original True Grit was filmed in Ridgway and Ouray.
We had driven through Ouray and I knew I had to come back to visit. So many cute shops to look through. We enjoyed going on a hike to see the Cascade Falls, which were frozen. It was January. I recommend having slip on spikes to your hiking boots if you go in the winter. We also walked up to Box Canon and saw the magnificent waterfall. And the view of the town is amazing from up there. There is usually a fee but no one was there. Maybe because it was winter. We walked to both of these hikes from our Hotel Beaumont. We also walked to Weisbaden Hot Springs Spa and Lodging. A must do activity. You can go into a cave and sit in the spring or just enjoy the steam. And then head outside to enjoy the pool fed by the hot springs. We played in the snow then got in the water. The facility was so clean and the staff were welcoming and friendly. Several places to enjoy local brews. Our favorite was the Ouray Brewery. We ate at Red Mountain Brewing. I had the mushroom pasta dish. OMG! We sat the bar and the bar tender was friendly and funny. We also enjoyed eating at Bon Ton. Enjoyed their wine, pasta and the creme brulee cheesecake. The next morning it was hard to find an early breakfast. Alot of places were on a reduced schedule for winter. It was Camp Bell's Cajun Cuisine. I had the veggie omelet. My husband had the biscuits and gravy. Both were outstanding. We sat in the back and could view the sunrise on the mountains as we ate. Many stores closed early so I did not get to finish my shopping. So we will definitely be back.
Cute town! My boyfriends first time traveling there and he loved it. Everyone was very friendly and the views were amazing! Eat at the outlaw! It’s expensive but very worth it. The food and service was outstanding. The hot springs (while part of it was closed) was very relaxing. Everything in the town is within walking distance. Easy to navigate and an easy drive from Junction.
Ouray was beautiful; truly the Switzerland of CO. We were there Nov 2 or so, and a lot was already closed for the season. Didn't matter as we had our best meal of 9+ day trip at the Brick House Restaurant. FANTASITC. The Tourist Office had good maps and info about hiking (though, they didn't provide very good descriptions of the trails. Hotel had better more accurate info), and nicely located, with free parking, close to parking. But the women there does not know her geography. While we understand that Rte 550 is critical infrastructure in Ouray (it runs right thru town) and that if you live there you get used to its hairpin turns, high elevation, steep drop-offs and lack of guardrails, but going south on Rte550 it is not the best way to go if you're going to Moab. The women in the tourist office insisted that the best way to get to Moab was to drive SOUTH out of Ouray on Rte 550 and retrace our steps on the aforementioned challenging drive, and then head west and then northwest out of Durango to Moab. She is wrong. We did not listen to her. Instead, we listened to google maps, common sense, the map and the hotel, and went north on Rte 550 a short way, and then headed directly west to Moab. It only took 2.5 hours. It was an easy drive. No steep drop offs, etc. She told us it was a difficult journey and would take 4.5 hours to Moab. Again, she is wrong. Her false information could have been dangerous. We told her we had a Corolla and no snow tires and there was snow predicted during the time she would have had us driving at 14,000 feet over Wolf Creek Pass. Luckily we did not listen to her and made our way with only some rain. Moral of the story: learn to read a map and don't trust Ourary Tourist Office.
We visited Ouray during a less busy season to avoid the summer crowds. Most businesses and restaurants were still open. The hiking was fantastic. There were still fall colors and snow on the peaks. As always, the Bon Ton served an excellent meal after the vigorous hike to the the Chief Ouray mine. The hot springs were great and so much less crowded
Ouray
It is an excellent quaint property in the town of Ouray, with wonderful hosts (assume they are the owners). Location is stone throw from the town centre (restaurants, bars and convenience store). The rooms were clean and cosy. Parking was easy and just outside the room. The host (guy) even went out of way to clean the snow from my car windshields - sincerely appreciated. Quick check in and check out. The heater and air-conditioner worked like a charm on a cold snowy day.
The Imogene is a newly remodeled boutique hotel on the main drag in Ouray. The room was tastefully redone and the bed was super comfortable. We enjoyed the feeling of the old mixed with the new including all the amenities that we needed. The real treat was the roof top bar. There’s lots of seating, a fire pit and heaters and the service was amazing despite working within COVID restrictions.
Ouray
Black Bear was very homey and welcoming. Tom is helpful and fun to talk with. Cyndi treats you to delicious breakfasts . There were special treats at Happy Hour and hot drinks always available. I loved being just walking distance to Main Street Ouray and a block from the river where a bench lets you sit and enjoy nature.
Loved the location of the place. Had a wedding to attend at the Beaumont Hotel so we could walk to it. Also walked all of the Perimeter Trail and Box Canyon Trail from there. Loved the outdoor space where we had a barbeque one night.
Ouray
Excellent service and friendly staff! They even give you stores for the fire pit! I had a great kitchenette and they have a gas barbecue grill out back. Best hotel I stayed at on my 4 day trip in Colorado.
My fiancé and I have stayed at this property a few times now. We fell in love with beautiful Ouray and loved being able to stare into the mountains while soaking in the Hot Springs.
Great location and really enjoyed the hot springs! Maybe a continental breakfast would have been good. Ouray is a great place though! Loved Box Canyon hotel
