Located in Shepherdstown in the West Virginia region, Stone River House, private river access has a balcony and mountain views. Self catering, so breakfast n/a The location was a big plus as the purpose of the trip was part of a Civil War related road trip and I didn't realise that it was actually smack in the middle of a battlefield.
Located in Sharpsburg, 14 mi from Hagerstown, Jacob Rohrbach Inn features a garden and free WiFi. Prime location to the Antietam battlefield as well as surrounding historical towns. Just a beautiful b&b, Well maintained building and grounds. Quiet and serene, just a relaxing place to be. If we had known it was this nice we would have booked a longer stay.
Armory Quarters A is located in Harpers Ferry. The air-conditioned accommodation is 7 miles from Charles Town, and guests benefit from private parking available on site and free WiFi. The pictures don't do this place justice. Okay, yes, it is very old house (1820). But, it is a wonderfully historic house and if you are going to Harpers Ferry why would you want to stay in anything but? It is just so wonderfully cutely historic. But, it is also clean and well done. Upgraded just enough to make it comfortable and pleasant but not loose its character. Fabulous vegan cafe just across the street and an excellent coffee place. Wifi good.
Set in Harpers Ferry, 6.8 mi from Charles Town, Light Horse Inn offers a bar and free WiFi. Guests at the bed and breakfast can enjoy a à la carte breakfast. Light Horse Inn offers a terrace. Breakfast was good and filling, enjoyed the dining room and the other guests ,
It has a quaint appearance, it is a collage town and the shops closed around 4. Wish there were more restaurants with full meals besides the Press Box that was pricy, but good. No place for breakfast in town. Tony's pizza was great. The towns people were friendly and accommodating. Loved all the history which was a surprise that we hadn't expected.
I'm not a town person, usually prefer secluded, rural areas, but I absolutely fell in love with Shepherdstown. It is beautiful, quaint and so peaceful. The only problem is that most of the shops aren't open throughout the week, at least this time of year. Just means we have to go back! The Blue Moon Cafe was wonderful, though, to be fair, all the food we ate was good. We enjoyed the walk up to the monument though I wish it had some sort of railing for families with young kids, there's a huge drop off that is mostly unguarded.
A very charming town with enough variety to keep you occupied for several hours. Restaurants and sweet shops, floral, gift and clothes shops. Lovely setting, fantastic architecture on the Main Street Buildings! Free parking for the holidays with the meters wrapped in festive ribbon, which I thought was a wonderful touch. All the shopkeepers were friendly and welcoming. I loved it! Antietam National Battleground is nearby and definitely worth a visit. I learned a lot and was deeply moved. Their museum was wonderful! The grounds are as they were on that fateful day. Beautiful area to visit overall.
What a wonderful little town to visit! The shops downtown were great, the history was presented wonderfully by several people. We encountered the Christmas parade and thought that was just the perfect added touch to our downtown experience. Enjoyed Betty’s Dinner for two breakfasts- will definitely be back to this relaxing little town.
Very cute town that has a lot of community spirit. Some of the friendliest people I’ve ever met. Great restaurants. A few cute stores. A good place to spend a weekend or use as a base for taking advantage of the great outdoor recreation.
Lovely well preserved historic town. Lots of good restaurants and beautiful quaint old homes to see on walks. College town so lively but not any evidence of a sophomoric party culture. Charming place to spend the weekend when visiting Antietam battlefield.
