AustraliaVery spacious, sparkling clean Karoo house set in pretty garden with secure, off street parking. The housekeeper met us and showed us over the house explaining everything before leaving. The kitchen was well equipped and there was very good hot water. The beds had electric blankets - a great comfort for a cold August night.

United KingdomRaka is the perfect choice for anyone visiting Sutherland. It is within close walking distance to several restaurants and attractions in town, and is incredibly good value for money. The house is authentic, very spacious and comfortable - with 2 large bedrooms, a living area with an indoor braai, a fully stocked kitchen, and even has full Dstv. Anneline was a friendly host and facilitated a truly fantastic stay for us!

Everything that you could possibly need was there. Oven, Microwave, Airfryer and coffee machine.
Host was an absolute pleasure to deal with.
As it is Sutherland and cold our host even put the airconditioner on ahead of time to warm the place. Very thoughtful

SALT is a must visit.
SALT is a must visit. The day and the evening tour I recommend to all visiting Sutherland.
We ate at the Hotel and Blue Moon Restaurant. The food was very good at both. Very friendly staff.
It is very easy getting around Sutherland.
A leasurly drive through the town streets to do some site seeing.
A 3km walk at Stereland is an absolutly easy and a enjoyable walk, especially spotting the different marked stones to identify the different plant species in a file.

Sutherland is a beautiful town.
Sutherland is a beautiful town. The Planetarium and the observatory offered a magical experience. Everywhere we went the local people was friendly and helpful and we enjoyed interacting with them. We visit both the Karoo Kitchen and the Blue Moon Restaurants and had amazing meals with amazing services. The coffee at the Planetarium is an absolute must!

Easy to get around Sutherland, Stargazing at Oom Jurg was amazing. Breakfast very good at the hotel- Excellent Ok food there in the town I was surprised at what you can get there especially the fresh products. Bought some nice meat at the local butcher

I simply love the tranquility and atmosphere of this town on...
I simply love the tranquility and atmosphere of this town on the doorstep to the great Karoo. The breathtaking night sky, emphasised by numerous stargazing opportunities, remains the absolute highlight.
The delicious cuisine provided by the Blue Moon restaurant adds to the flair Sutherland has to offer.

A special visit, a bucket list item I've always wanted to do...
A special visit, a bucket list item I've always wanted to do and very glad that we made the trip, it is a must. Do visit SALT, watch a show at the planetarium, stargazing either through Oom Jurg (Sterland), the planetarium or SALT. Oom Jurg has the biggest selection of telescopes for people to view through and the whole experiences lasts for about 2 and a half hours. Also go to church on Sunday and see the beautiful architecture of the NG Kerk (same builder as the church in Graaf Reinett). We caught the annual church basaar so had delicious lamb sosaties, braaivleis and roosterkoek.

Time is not of the essence going to Sutherland - you are to enjoy the road trip and then visit and view the splendor of our Creator and then realize that we are very insignificant in the Bigger Picture. Go back as often as you can!!!

Having grown up in a tiny, town myself, I couldn't help to feel attached to the guesthouse. Everything is within easy reach within the facility itself. Peaceful.... Bertie was very helpful and connected easily with him and shared heart touching stories(the stranger I was to him)... Every town needs a Sutherland Guesthouse type of a setup....where you don't have to worry about what comes next....

The location of the guesthouse is perfect as all the important spots in Sutherland can reached by foot. The external braai room added to the flair. It's the perfect spot to spend cold winter's days and evenings.

This is a hidden gem. The cottage is so quaint and has everything you need. Because it is out of town, the night sky is amazing. We will definitely stay here again if we are ever in Sutherland.
