FAQs about hotels in Cape Town

Cool, Colourful Cape

Between mountains and beaches, the 2nd largest city in South Africa mixes history, resilient modernity, and a typical laidback African character. From the top of Table Mountain to the colourful Bo Kaap quarter, and from the Victoria & Albert Waterfront to the modern business district, Cape Town blends multicultural influences and beautiful nature.

Known as Kaapstad in Afrikaans, its sunny weather and mild temperatures make it a perfect place to enjoy the large number of beaches that surround it. From Sunset Beach to Hout Bay, and from Simon’s Town to Gordon Bay, this city offers a variety that suits all tastes. Whale and dolphin watching is a popular activity in False Bay.

Located on the Cape of Good Hope, the city was founded in 1652 by a Dutch trading company as a way-station for ships travelling to the East Indies. With the settling process, all sorts of foreign plants were introduced, including the grapes in the famous Cape Winelands District, just outside Cape Town.

Cape Town’s history does have some darker periods, and some of its memorable places from this time deserve to be visited: Robben Island jail, the City Hall from which Nelson Mandela gave his first public speech, and the statues of the 4 South African Nobel Peace Prize winners on the V&A Waterfront.

The location was perfect. Right at the entrance to the V&A Waterfront and a short walk to the Victoria Wharf Shopping Centre. Most days we walked via the Canal from the hotel to the Wharf and it was lovely. We especially enjoyed the water machine opposite the vending machine which dispensed free ice cold and fizzy water. Upon check-in, our room wasn't ready so the hotel stored our luggage for us while we went out so we didn't have to worry about carting our luggage everywhere. The staff were always friendly and helpful.

Modern hotel with loads of character, spacious rooms, in a good location between the waterfront and the CBD. Breakfasts were a highlight, as was the personable nature of the staff. We loved the quirky nature of the books, shelves and old furniture, right down to the talking book in one part of the path to the rooms. The beds are really comfortable and the bathrooms large with great showers. Really handy having on site parking. Recommend Bellagio in the same complex for a meal, or two!

Super impressed with how accommodating the hotel is when it comes to different dietary requirements. I want to especially thank Chef Candice for going above and beyond to make sure we had all the vegan variety of foods for breakfast. Thank you so much for being so kind and flexible (You’re are truly one of the kind). Just so you know you’ve earned lifetime clients in my family, my kids said when they come back to Cape Town Southern Sun Waterfront is the only place to be.

Breakfast was amazing and had a large selection of food, with the option of ordering off the menu also. The rooms were spacious and the bed was very comfortable. They have a free shuttle bus ran to the V&A waterfront and back twice a day. The staff were so friendly and helpful. We exhausted the hotel list in Cape Town and was not disappointed when staying here. The Ubers were so cheap and you could get to most places from here at a reasonable price.

Location was good, although downtown Cape Town is a little sketchy at times, which was even suggested to us by the staff, who advised us not to go to the Bo-Kaap area, for instance. Close to all sites and only 30 minutes walk to the Waterfront. Parking was excellent and cheap! Staff was attentive and courteous. Amenities provided in the rom were fine and public areas were clean and spacious. Breakfast provided was good.

Very clean apartments...found new items that are trendy and unique. Mauline, the owner, was super friendly and great sense of humour. She helped us book her apartments a second time when almost all hotels in Cape Town were fully booked...really grateful for this gesture. Great wifi signal and smart TV allowed us to watch our local channels from back home in Zambia 😊

This was a very welcoming little hotel, with friendly staff and a lovely clean room that had a fabulous view over Signal Hill and Lions Head, plus you could hear the sounds of the city humming in the evening. Parking is not on site but is literally across the road. Good location in 'real' Cape Town rather than the very strange tourist enclave of the V&A Waterfront.

I spent 5 fantastic days in Cape Town with friends. The hotel is excellent, for every recommendation. Perfect location, close to the pedestrian area and some of the city's sights (Bo Kap, Company's garden, hop-on-hop-off bus station...) and a 10-minute drive to the V&A waterfront. The hotel staff is very friendly and helpful for everything you may need.
