FAQs about hotels in Cape Town

Cool, Colourful Cape

Between mountains and beaches, the 2nd largest city in South Africa mixes history, resilient modernity, and a typical laidback African character. From the top of Table Mountain to the colourful Bo Kaap quarter, and from the Victoria & Albert Waterfront to the modern business district, Cape Town blends multicultural influences and beautiful nature.

Known as Kaapstad in Afrikaans, its sunny weather and mild temperatures make it a perfect place to enjoy the large number of beaches that surround it. From Sunset Beach to Hout Bay, and from Simon’s Town to Gordon Bay, this city offers a variety that suits all tastes. Whale and dolphin watching is a popular activity in False Bay.

Located on the Cape of Good Hope, the city was founded in 1652 by a Dutch trading company as a way-station for ships travelling to the East Indies. With the settling process, all sorts of foreign plants were introduced, including the grapes in the famous Cape Winelands District, just outside Cape Town.

Cape Town’s history does have some darker periods, and some of its memorable places from this time deserve to be visited: Robben Island jail, the City Hall from which Nelson Mandela gave his first public speech, and the statues of the 4 South African Nobel Peace Prize winners on the V&A Waterfront.

Cape Town is a fascinating place.

Cape Town is a fascinating place. It is a modern and busy city, despite various inequalities and dangers that the inequalities produce. It has great food, nature, and city life. I'd avoid hanging out at the V&A Waterfront; it is too artificial, even though it is safe and fancy. All other promoted spots are really enjoyable: Table Mountain, Lion Head, Robben Island, the Gardens, District 6, the penguins, etc. There are many places to eat in: cheap and more expensive. Among the more expensive ones, I'd recommend Mama Africa (it is a tourist attraction, but it makes sense if you are one) and SeaBreeze Fish and Shell. Good places to try reinvention of the South African cuisine and local seafood.

Wonderful city with so much to see and enjoy. However, when you have limited time you need to plan the attractions carefully, otherwise you could miss out. The highlight of our trip was the cable car to the tabletop mountain and the a magnificent helicopter trip over the whole city.

I really enjoyed the picturesque Waterfront area, the bustling restaurants with a wide variety of offerings for different palates and moods. Due to financial constraints, we were not able to do fine dining which we had hoped to, so mostly did fast foods like MacDonald's. But we did sample some excellent ice cream and fish, as well as some fantastic wine. Our children were young adults so we did not need child specific activities.

Woooow, Cape Town is beautiful and Tidy. Cape Town people are very kind and accommodative. Nice places which I was offered free tickets because of my birthday. I would definitely recommend it to other people. I visited Table Mountain where I was offered a cable car ticket free, Two Oceans Aquarium also free for my birthday. Boat cruise at Sea Point, very professional.

Depending on where you stay and if you are South African, everything in the touristy areas are expensive, more catered to the visitors from abroad. So I would advise you budget and plan very nicely. Also, plan your trip and daily activities to get more out of your holiday. Cape Town's weather is extremely temperamental so pack warm clothes as well. Being from Johannesburg, I never found the people to be friendly like everyone says, maybe it was only the people in Seapoint. The roads are too narrow and the drivers are impatient.

This hotel is always an absolute treat! While I always do a fresh search for hotels in Cape Town, from the location to the friendliness of the staff; the beautiful grounds; spaciousness and room comfort - it's no surprise I revert to staying there. This time we took our baby along and he was accommodated for very well in the clean and comfy camper cot - and he particularly enjoyed the indoor swimming pool. It's rare that a hotel can excel in so many aspects!

It has everything you want and more. Wonderful bars, restaurants and even a sushi bar. The rooms are extremely comfortable and the staff are brilliant. They are really onto a winning formula and competitively priced. I can’t recommend this place enough compared to some of the traditional hotels in Cape Town. Try stay as high up as possible.

Great value for money, the staff was friendly and helpfull, the room had everything we needed (fridge, kettel and coffee, safe etc). The room was clean and cosy with crisp white linen on the bed.
