This West African wonder is a hub for the region’s culture and music. Its diversity is summed up by the fact that there are over 60 ethnic groups – with just as many languages – found in all corners of the country. Throughout the year, there are hip hop, jazz, cinema and masked dancing festivals. Most of these, including the biannual International Arts and Crafts Fair, are held in the capital of Ouagadougou (also known as Ouago – pronounced ‘Wa-Gha’) and Bobo-Dioulasso in the southwest. Festivals aside, the music scene is ever present, with live reggae, salsa and traditional orchestras playing in lots of different local venues. The green heart of the country can be found in and around Banfora, home to majestic waterfalls and lakes for hippo spotting. The nearby Sindou Peaks’ are worth a visit to see the peculiar rock formations which have been shaped over millions of years. I really enjoyed my stay here for many reasons. They were very quick to respond to my messages / requests and were there to meet me at the airport in the middle of the night. The room was clean, spacious and comfortable . Breakfast was high quality and enjoyable by the pool. The staff were very friendly and helpful, particularly with my travel arrangements, as was the French owner who speaks fluent English .

My colleague and I were overwhelmed with how lovely and welcoming Chez Giuliana was upon our arrival. A relaxing and colourful place to spend time in between meetings, with convenient places to work remotely - from the large roof terrace in the sun, to the desks in our rooms when it got a little too hot. The location was great, with anything we needed within easy walking distance. Taxis had no problem finding the place. Incredibly friendly staff were able to provide recommendations on where to go for food, but also were kind enough to order food for delivery for us. The breakfast was a lovely way to start the day.

It is clearly the best hotel in Ouagadougou at this time. Times are challenging for all hotels, it has to be said. The immense pool and the plunge pool in the current hot weather, the good food (not automatic in a hotel in general and in Ouaga in particular), the spacious room, and most importantly the guest-oriented honest friendliness and efficiency of the staff make me recommend this place.
