I explored the area, and it was very beautiful. The hotsprings were super relaxed. Breakfast/dinner was also delicious. And of course, very friendly staff. I asked if tattoos were okay for the hotspings, and they said it was okay. Although there was a sign saying no tattoos (as well on website), they seemed to be really nice about it & allowed it. Bonus points for that.

Keiko is an excellent cook, turning out elaborate and delicious meals. The location was a great base for the hike from Magome to Tsumago.

The host was super friendly and very helpful, even when we had some additional requests. Thanks so much for all the help! The rooms were veeery spacious (converted classrooms). The shared toilet & shower facilities were also very clean and nice—overall the building interior felt very new.

An authentic experience in a stunning post town on the Nakasendo trail. The hosts are very helpful and provide amazing food for dinner and breakfast as part of your stay. They are also excellent at allowing for dietary requests. The private onsen bath is also special. Highly recommended.

The accommodation was clean and cosy, and Kento-san was most friendly and welcoming. Privacy was a plus point too. Highly recommend.

Magome Chaya guesthouse is right in the middle of the small town of Magome. Could not ask for a more central location. The location along with the hard working and friendly staff made for an incredible stay. We did not do dinner, but we did have breakfast. The food was simple traditional Japanese breakfast, but was very hardy, tasty and kept us going on our hike that day. If you are going to hike the trail and need a simple friendly place to stay, this is it.

traditional Japanese house exceptionally well maintained with excellent facilities. On-site Osen was a real treat and perfect for end of day before dinner. fact that they provided yokata and helped was a special touch. if that wasn’t enough, the host cooled an amazing Michelin-style meal with local dishes we have never tried elsewhere. unforgettable five star experience!
