We missed our connecting train because of delays coming out of Stuttgart. We ended up in Augsburg at almost midnight. The train station was closed and there was no one to help. We did not know Augsburg at all, and knew almost no German. We booked at room a the Holiday Inn through our phone at random. The booking process was very smooth and easy, and we simply showed the taxi driver the address of the hotel on the phone. It was midnight by the time we arrived. The hotel staff was exceptionally kind and helpful, and gave us information about booking a train for the next morning. The room was very nice, clean, and comfortable. We requested a taxi at 5:30 to take us back to the train station, and it was already waiting when we came downstairs several hours later. The staff insisted that we pack a breakfast to take with us. Coming from the US where hotel breakfast usually means nothing more than eggs, bacon, and cereal, the breakfast spread at the hotel was outstanding. We will always be thankful to the staff and the hotel (and to the two very courteous and professional taxi drivers).
