Hilo Hostel is located in Nara, within less than 1 km of Nara Station and 18 km of Iwafune Shrine. Featuring a shared lounge, this 3-star hostel has air-conditioned rooms with a shared bathroom. Great location - less than a 5 minute walk from Nara station and within walking distance of the other main attractions! Hilo was an amazing host! Marked out the attractions on a map and gave me recommendations. ¥600 in total for the washing machine and dryer. Free tea and coffee too. Nice little kitchen area. I speak very little japanese, but Hilo has a translator device to help communicate with each other. I definitely recommend staying here!

Located in Nara and with Nara Station reachable within 1.3 km, Yuzan Guesthouse provides a garden, non-smoking rooms, free WiFi throughout the property and a terrace. Great hostel in the 100+ years house. Big kitchen with all you need, good public zones including a small garden, comfortable beds, breakfast is ok. There is a laundry machine and a dryer. The host is helpful and kind. You can leave lagguage before check in and after check out. Some reviewers complain about cracking noise - yes, this is old wooden house, it cracks, but it is very authentic and very clean.

Featuring a terrace, 城崎温泉 HOSTEL Waraku is located in Kinosaki in the Hyogo region, 2.4 km from Kinumaki Shrine and 3.9 km from Seto Shrine. Amazing Clean (and at the time i stayed) cheap Hostel with an own room. Quiet at night. Smoking area outside. VERY cormfortable beds. You Guys do a really good Job!

Set in Wakayama and with Takanoji Temple reachable within 200 metres, Charlie's Bed offers concierge services, non-smoking rooms, a shared lounge, free WiFi throughout the property and a terrace. Staff was extreamly helpful. Got recommendation for a great sashimi bar/restaurant that ended up being one of my two favourite restaurants on my trip. The guesthouse was really clean and good space to store a bike inside.

Attractively set in Osaka, Guest House mii features air-conditioned rooms, a shared lounge, free WiFi and a terrace. The place has the same vibe as the photos give you. The place is very small but that is part of the charm. Mii is one of those rare Japanese people you can meet during your trip: more talkative, can speak english very well, and just generally fun to chat with. I also had the pleasure to meet her friend Aina. Didn't have much time to chat with the other staff members because of the short stay. Wish I could have stayed a bit longer but everything was fully booked! Now, a word of warning to my fellow finnish travellers! Mii might mistake you as a swede so book at your own risk...!

Situated conveniently in the Uehommachi, Tennoji, Southern Osaka district of Osaka, Hostel Caranashi is situated 700 metres from The Osaka Korean Church in Japan, 1.3 km from Osaka Seiwa Church and... Amazing stay! The guesthouse owners are incredibly kind and attentive, and you can feel the love and attention to detail in every corner. Super convenient location, too. Best stay in Japan so far!

Located in Nagaoka, 15 km from Hikone Castle, Guesthouse Izame Ann provides accommodation with free bikes, free private parking, a shared lounge and a bar. Well worth the effort to travel to experience a lovely ryokan, it's host and the town. I paid for dinner and I'm SO glad I did. It was a highlight of my stay and in deed a highlight of my 5 week trip in Japan. You sit in a sunken seating area and watch the ryokan owner/cook prepare what felt like a large number of individual dishes. The food was absolutely delicious. I was concerned about hearing other guests because, being an older house, the walls are thin - but the night I was there all the guests were respectfully quiet. I had a view over the "river" which may be a mis-nomer - but it is a peaceful stream running through the pretty street. I highly recommend a visit.
