Meredith House is a heritage listed property centrally located in Swansea on the east coast of Tasmania. Meredith House is renowned for its breakfast which is included in your room rate; we offer an extensive range of breakfast options and we are able to cater for all dietary needs, such as gluten free, vegetarian etc. We pride ourselves on our genial hospitality, it is a warm, welcoming property, which harks back to a colonial past, but with modern conveniences, such as free wifi and en-suite bathrooms, thereby offering you the best of both worlds. The property has wonderful views across town to Great Oyster Bay and the Freycinet Peninsula.
We are Neal McDermott and Noel Stanley; we have owned and operated Meredith House since 2004. Neal was previously a Social Worker and originates from Manchester, UK and Noel is a former pilot/ 747 captain and is from NSW. We have two West Highland Terriers who love to welcome our guests, their names are Lulu and Dougal. We love living in Tasmania, especially for its quiet secluded places, pristine beaches and its long history and colonial heritage.
Swansea makes a great base from which to explore the east coast of Tasmania; in town there are some great cafes and restaurants, as well as Kates Berry Farm just south of town. There are some fantastic beach walks in and around the immediate area; Nine Mile Beach offers uninterrupted views of the bay and seclusion, yet only five minutes from town, Cressy Beach, Spikey Beach and Coswell Beach all have their own unique character and charm. You should also check-out the walk around Waterloo Point which affords spectacular views across the Bay. Heading north to Freycinet we have some fantastic vineyard experiences, in particular Milton Vineyard and Spring Vale; both offer great cellar door products year round, but in spring/summer have the addition of two great pop-up restaurants. At Cranbrook you will find Gala Wines, and further on towards Freycinet, Devils Corner, which features food from Freycinet Marine Farm and wood fired pizza from Tombola. No visit to the east coast would be complete without a visit to Coles Bay, Freycinet National Park and Wineglass Bay; also of interest are Friendly Beaches and the lighthouse at Cape Tourville.
