Lost World Sanjiang
Lost World Sanjiang is located in Chengyang Dong village in northern Guangxi. Four over 100 year old stilted wood houses are turned into lodges. Exterior and interior are protected to the maximum. Ian, an architect from South Africa, masterminded the renovation. Ian's first project has won China Heritage Hotels award by ICOMOS China - ICOMOS is the organization evaluating World Heritage Sites. There is a bar & restaurant in the Tea Tree House. Inside the guest rooms, amenities like soft beds, western toilet & shower, A/C, desks & sofa, coffee/tea facilities are fully equipped. Rice Terrace House has 1 standard twin room (2 person) and a family duplex suite (4 persons) and has the rice paddy view. Old Theater House has 2 family rooms (ground floor & 1st floor), and 2 family suites (ground floor & 1st floor) and has views of the village. Slogan House has 1 standard triple room (ground floor), 1 family room (1st floor) and 1 family suite (2nd floor) and has limited views of the village. When you book, please kindly ask us about the availability of the type of room you want. Thanks.
the host is a group of people devoting to culture heritage protection. Ian, the South African/English architect who masterminded the design and building. Yang, a local Dong villager who's been running his own guesthouse since 1999. Fang was a driver for foreign guests years ago. And Wei works in a travel company in Guilin. Back in 2016, Yang and Wei talked about preserving the disappearing old houses in the village and decided to do something about it. Ian, nicknamed "Fengzi" (crazy guy) joined upon Wei's invitation and became the mastermind of the restoration.
The Dong people in China are famous for their wood architecture. The most famous are the Wind & Rain Bridge and Drum Towers, built without a single metal nail. The world famous Chengyang Bridge is right in the village. The Dong people are also famous for their singing. In the neighbourhood Dong areas, the Dong choirs won international awards in Europe. The Dong people are very hospitable and united. From this village, some 60km to the southeast lies the gigantic Longji Rice Terraces. And further down the road by another 90km is the famous landscape city of Guilin.
