It is a residential street in the inner west suburb and stretches from the inner city ring at the level of the Thomaskirche to the Waldstrasse district. It is named after the writer Johann Christoph Gottsched. The front part is a popular Leipzig pub mile and offers a large selection of cafes, bars, pubs, restaurants and dance halls. The Gotthedstrasse is also home to the Central Theater and the Skala, which is why the area is unofficially referred to as the theater district. The tram stop "Leibnitzstrasse" of lines 4, 7 and 15 is in the immediate vicinity.
