Beautifull location, it was quiet and very private. We loved the approach of the owners on the property when we arrived, and the use of their washing machine was very useful with a one year old who spills a lot... al the time. They had a small bed for him, which was all made up as well.

Many people think that the village Altenhain is in the middle of nowhere but they forget that it is 20 min to drive from Leipzig, 45 min from Halle/ Saale, 60 min from Dresden, 120 min from Berlin or 150 min from Prague. But since you are reading this text you already know better. The name Altenhain translated into English means old forest. This is what it is. It is a village at the forest with about 1000 people living there. The forest is extraordinary for walking. Every seasons has it's own flair. In winter the snow-capped forest ground and frozen lakes; in spring the awaking nature and diversity of birds; in summer the romantic long nights, which let the forest glow in red. Who likes to go on a mushroom foray is at the right place. The fall brings the color into the forest.
The landlord lived in this house for a long time but moved to Switzerland more than 10 years ago. He is working in the finance department of a chemical company and is active in the association of credit management Switzerland.
Coming to us is not being in a village in Saxony only. You are in the middle of a country with a long and world-famous history. Think about Georg Friedrich Handel. He lived in Halle/ Saale. The Handel festivals are world popular. Since we are talking about classics - Johann Sebastian Bach was in Leipzig. No need to explain Dresden. Capital of Saxony and residence of August II the Strong. Meissen just close by Dresden is famous for its porcelain. In our days this region has been chosen by many industries like micro-chip industry, car industry (Volkswagen, BMW or Porsche) or chemical industry (Dow Chemical, BASF, Bayer etc.). Dresden, Leipzig and Halle are university cities. Night life is extraordinary. Let us summarize: You come here for enjoying the nature by walking, cycling, fishing, whatever you like doing in the nature. But all of a sudden you want to hit the city, enjoy a good restaurant, go dancing until early in the morning. Next day you might decide to do some cultural activities and combine it with some shopping. Or you go the amusement park Belantis? Or what about hitting the water park Maya Mare? Not enough? OK Berlin is a 2 hours drive away; Prague 2.5 hours.
